Few years ago, this may have seemed unlikely, however
going by recent reports, social networking site, Facebook
may have lost its popularity, especially among teenagers
and the younger generation.
The social media platform has been usurped from its
position by rival social networking and micro blogging
service, Twitter.
According to Piper Jaffray's 'Taking Stock with Teens',
a semi-annual teen market research report in the US,
'Twitter is the new king of teens, with 26% naming it as
their 'most important' social site. Only 23% said Facebook
was most important, down from a high of 42%.'
This decline in Facebook's popularity among 'cool kids'
may be ascribed to the fact that older generations have also
decided to join the social networking site, creating a sort of
intrusion into the somewhat 'private' lives of teens.
Facebook CEO , Mark Zuckerberg had previously
admitted that the social media has lost its 'coolness' adding
that the platform is becoming 'ubiquitous like a utility'
While this may be true, Piper Jaffray's report further added
that Facebook-owned Instagram has however increased in
popularity with 23% of teens picking it as their No.1
choice, in sharp contrast to last year's 12%.
