Sad News: Musician Father U Turn is died
The dancehall artiste who rose from poverty as an orphan, to build a successful and inspiring career as a songwriter, recording artiste, TV presenter and performer, passed on in Lagos today, following a brief illness. He was 36 years old. May his soul rest in peace...Amen. Read more about him after the cut...
The late U Turn was from Kabba-Bunu in Kogi State where he first tried his hands on entertainment, working as a radio and TV presenter.
He had a brief stint at NTA in Lagos, after relocating here, before signing a deal with Ultima Records which released his early albums.
He was a little boy, with braids and a charming personality. And his signature intro 'Apoola Berekete' was far beyond his stature. But he got the industry's attention and got a leg in the door before long. After years of club tours and free gigs, he got his first break when he was signed to one of the biggest record labels of the time, Ultima Records.
Ultima engaged Nelson Brown to work on his first album which proved to be a huge success.
The hits 'African Culture' and 'Shakara' threw him into national limelight, instantly putting him in the league of bonafide ghetto stars like Daddy Showkey and Daddy Fresh.
He espoused Okokomaiko where he resided, with many songs dedicated to the Lagos outskirt.
His second album 'Padlock Ur Mouth' produced the smash hit 'Yetunde' a collaboration with Pasuma Wonder.
With dozens of awards confirming his exploits, including multiple decoration by Awards for Musical Excellence in Nigeria (AMEN), Youths Awards for Excellence in Music (YAFEM), amongst many others, U Turn lead a generation of alternative dancehall cats by the hands. And in Okokomaiko where he spent the last two decades of his life, he was like a king. His success encouraged many children in the area to embrace music, and he supported many of them.
Although his later years were troubled by label issues with Bayowa Music, and career challenges that came with unsuccessful albums, Father U Turn remained dedicated to his art - recording endlessly and refusing to let go of his passion and dedication to reggae/dancehall. He also vehemently refused to relocate from Okokomaiko, despite constant pleas from friends and family.
He died in a hospital around Okokomaiko today, after suffering a liver related illness. A family member confirmed he had been in and out of hospital for many weeks. He had been on admission at the last hospital for 10 days before he passed on.
He is survived by his siblings, wife Ajimoh and five children.

Drake I’ll Take Care Of You: Hits Strip Club With Rihanna, Spends N2million
(for the last time) of her relationship with Chris Brown.
According to E! News the singer and rapper have been
spending time together while on their respective tours.
When Rihanna had a tour stop in Dallas, Drake reportedly
went to see her show and followed that by taking Rih Rih
out for dinner.
The favor was returned when Drake was in Houston for his
Would You Like A Tour? as Rihanna came to watch Drake
perform, and then the two found themselves at the same
strip club later that night.
Twitter user marcus martinez tweeted a pretty clear image
of Rihanna enjoying Drake's show on Wednesday night in
the V.I.P. section, saying, "Me, @KirkoBangz and my
baby @Rihanna turnt up at @Drake 's concert last night
lol."
Later that evening, Rihanna went to V Live Gentlemen's
Club, and Drake reportedly arrived thirty minutes later. A
dancer at the club, Jhonni Blaze, says she danced for the
two for over three hours.
While at the strip club, the pair of course made it rain,
spending a combined $17,000, reports say. That's $12,000
from the Toronto native and $5,000 from the Barbados
beauty. On top of all this, word from the dancer is that the
two left together, in the same vehicle.
Do Rihanna & Drake make a good couple? What do you
think?
How to Stop Attracting the Wrong Set of Guys
thinks that she's not worth anything? You
need to have the confidence and self-esteem
to project dateability.
Everyone has positive qualities, even if they
don't realize it. Okay, so you don't have a job or you don't
have a degree or you had a bad relationship—that doesn't
mean that you wouldn't be an understanding, compassionate,
interesting and fun girlfriend. Everyone deserves a chance to
give their best qualities to a partner, no matter their
circumstances. You need to remember that you have a lot to
offer and soon enough a handsome man will too!
Step 2: Present a Positive Attitude
Now that you've figured out that you deserve a happy
relationship, you need to adjust your attitude so you can
attract one. If you keep expecting to attract the wrong kind of
guy, you're projecting low expectations and a pessimistic
attitude about love. So who do you think will be attracted to
that? A pessimistic guy who isn't looking to meet ambitious
expectations and who doesn't want a lot of boyfriend
responsibilities. If you don't present a positive attitude, you're
not going to catch the eye of a positive guy.
There's a quick tip to help keep your attitude positive,
especially useful for those of you who hate dating. Approach
every situation as though you're going to to have a good time.
Arrive to every date confident that the man on the other side
of the table is going to be the love of your life. Because one
of these times, he will be!
Step 3: Figure Yourself Out
If you've mastered the first two steps and you still can't seem
to land a quality man, there might be a problem with your
process. Do you know who you're looking for? I'm not
looking for a list like "Tall, dark and handsome." Do you
know what kind of relationship you want? If you haven't
decided what you're looking for, how can you expect to find
someone who satisfies you?
You don't have to settle for being a jerk-magnet. Use these
three steps to change yourself instead of trying to change a
dirtbag into a quality boyfriend.

Hottest Artist Kcee Left His Wife For Actress Ebube Nwagbo (Photos)
"Following the Limpopo crooner's break-up with his wife,
Ijeoma Okonkwo, there seems to be an open door for the
sultry actress, Ebube Nwagbo. Matinee gathered that Kcee
has crawled back to the sexy actress three years after ending
their relationship.
Kcee and Ebube ended their relationship in 2010, when the
former got married to his wife, Ijeoma. But it never really
seemed like they were actually separated. And after Kcee
break up with Ijeoma recently, there is indication that the
lovebirds would come together again to part no more.
Though there are speculations in some quarters that Kcee and
Ijeoma's marriage might not be completely over"

PHOTO: Wizkid and Akon Reject Dark-Skinned Models For Video Shoot
sparks! In a recent video shoot for an up and coming Akon
and WizKid video, some Ghanaian models and girl were
called upon to participate by the directors a few days ahead of
the shoot.
Presumably prior to Akon and Wiz Kids arrival in Ghana.A
model reported on the day of the shoot some girls were turned
away as the agent (or the man responsible for calling them)
informed them that "they now want half cast girls". A term
used to describe girls with mixed heritage, usually ones with
white blood in them.
"THEY", most likely referring to WizKid, Akon and/or his
music video producer, turning away a fleet of arrivals
originally requested to attend by the model scout. In fact, the
agent requested if the girls could help him seek light skinned
girls because 'THEY' were so adamant on this request even
on late notice.
Nigeria, where WizKid is from, and Senegal where Akon is
from, are countries both flooded with girls bleaching their
skin simply because of such discrimination and being made to
feel ugly if dark. Not just in media and modelling, but general
favours in life.
Whilst there are good people in both countries trying to
reverse the self esteem damage of such activities such as
Adama Paris who banned skinned bleach models from the
Senegalese national fashion week, Akon and Wiz Kid's team
are trying to further such acts internationally.
ASUU STRIKE: ASUU Denies Holding NEC Meeting
dismissed report going round the media, especially social
media platforms that it held of the union's National
Exectuve Council to discuss the possibility of calling off
the strike.
Chairman of the University of Ibadan branch of the union,
Dr. Olusegun Ajiboye, said the stories of the
meeting in Kano are rumours. He said in an interview
monitored on Diamond FM,
University of Ibadan, that there was no meeting
scheduled by the union for Saturday as they were
still observing seven days of mourning in honour of
the late former national chairman of the union,
Festus Iyayi.
The union was last week scheduled the meeting of its
National Executive Council to hold in Kano, where
they were expected to take a final decision on
whether to continue with their strike or accept the
FG's offer, but cancelled it when one of their
colleague and a former president of the union was
killed in a car crash by the convoy of the Governor of
Kogi state.
No new date has been fixed for the cancelled
meeting, thus the fate of university students whoi
have stayed at home for over four months remains
unknown.
Sunday Reflection
In an age of anxiety, it is easy to win followers from those who are overcome by a sense of defeat. Jesus educates his hearers to avoid leaders who will manipulate their fears. Also He never suggests that following Him will be a bloodless affair, but He sees in suffering an opportunity for a courage of witness.
Nollywood star declares victory for APGA
Progressives Grand Alliance is already celebrating the
possible victory of Willie Obiano at yesterday's Anambra
State governorship election.
Udokwu said in Awka, after voting, that the celebration
became necessary because most Nollywood actors hail from
the state and most of them cast their votes for Obiano.
He added most of them saw the need for continuity and cast
their votes for the APGA candidate.
He dismissed fears that Nollywood stars from the state voted
for other candidates at the last minute, having honoured their
invitations for parleys just before the election.
"Some people play to the gallery, and some people answer
calls for inducements. If that was the case, then it does not
imply that most of them decided to change their minds at the
eleventh hour," said Udokwu.
He asked, "Do any of them (the other candidates) plan for the
industry? I don't think so. Otherwise, why didn't they invite
them (Nollywood practitioners) for the dinners before now?"
"For them to have invited them for dinners hurriedly
organised, it shows the desperation. They just want to be seen
taking pictures with my colleagues – the Nollywood stars.
"Every one of us is wise, it would not pay to vote against
APGA government that has strived to ensure the growth of the
industry."
Udokwu said continuity was what was needed in Anamnbra
State.
He said, "Willie Obiano is just the best man to succeed
Governor Peter Obi. He has a distinguished career in money
management; he knows what is best for Anambra.
"He had worked with Governor Obi for over 10 years in the
banking industry. He surely knows how best to consolidate on
the existing programmes and projects."
He added, "I tell my colleagues that it is not all about
inducements, but about collective growth.
"Those who were inviting actors for dinners whenever they
wanted something in the past were only interested in self
actualisation, not collective growth."
"As the Senior Special Assistant to Governor Obi on Creative
Media, I have submitted proposals on how we can fast-track
the growth of the industry and the government is already
working on that."

$5bn missing from Excess Crude Account – Amaechi
Amaechi, who spoke at the NGF retreat yesterday in Sokoto, Sokoto State, said there was $9b in the account in January this year, but regretted that the amount had been depleted without the governors knowing why the money was withdrawn.
According to the governor: "The Excess Crude Account in January was N9billion. That account belongs to Federal, States and Local Governments. Today it is N4billion. We don't know who took the $5billion."
Money accruing from the Federation Account and the sharing of the money by the Federal Account Allocation Committee was one of the topics discussed at the retreat.
Amaechi also alleged that the Federal Government had been using anti-corruption agencies to harass governors who hold different opinions from that of President Goodluck Jonathan.
He wondered why these anti-corruption agencies had refused to visit other government establishments like the Federal Ministries of work, finance, Niger Delta and even the NNPC.
Instead of this, he said the EFCC was always going to such states like Kano and Jigawa, where governors of the affected states hold different political views from that of President Jonathan.
He said, "Today, the EFCC is either in Jigawa or in Kano States because they (the governors) disagree with the President. What about NNPC? What about Ministry of Niger Delta and the Ministry of Works?
"The whole governors put together receive 26 per cent from the revenue of the Federation. The Federal Government gets 52 per cent. And with that 52 per cent, nobody goes after the Federal Government to say how did you spent it. And then you go after those who get 26 per cent"
In a communique said, which emerged at the end of the retreat, the governors, however, said it would be in the interest of the country If Nigerians could eschew docility and participate more actively in politics and demand better accountability and responsibility from their leaders.
The forum also asked the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation to be transparent in its activities.
The meeting by the pro-Amaechi NGF governors was by only eight of the 19 governors in the camp.
Apart from the host governor, Aliyu Wammako, others governors in attendance were those of Ekiti, Osun, Adamawa, Nasarawa, Rivers, Lagos and Niger attended.
Governors of Kano, Niger, Jigawa, Kwara and Oyo states, however sent their deputies.
House of Representatives Speaker Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, former EFCC chairman, Nuhu Ribadu, Prof. Wole Soyinka and Bishop Mathew Hassan Kukah among others also attended the retreat.
According to the communique: " In view of the opaque nature of NNPC operations," they (the governors) would continue to insist on transparency in all facets of the petroleum value chain".
The governors also promised to pursue the diversification of the Nigerian economy in order to reduce dependency on oil and reinforce efforts at enhancing internally generated revenue to lessen the dependency of states on the centre as a way to strengthen Nigeria's federalism.
They also insisted on the creation of state police, which they said remain one of the requirements of a federal system of government and a multi-level policing to improve on the security of citizens.
Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa'ad Abubakar 111, also called on governors in the country to make use of their forum as an instrument of unity rather than the current division among them.
The monarch made the plea yesterday, when members of the NGF led by Amaechi, paid him a visit in his palace in Sokoto.
He maintained that it was only when the governors were united that they could be able to deliver the goods and meet the yearnings of the electorate.

suspected Boko Haram insurgents in Maiduguri after an
operation on Gwoza-Bita road. It said the area has witnessed
attacks on civilians in recent times.
The spokesman for the division, Lt.-Col. Muhammad Dole,
said this in a statement on Saturday.
The statement read, "In the late hours of Friday, November
15, troops of the 7 Division, Nigerian Army, launched an
offensive operation along Gwoza-Bita-Damboa road, where
suspected Boko Haram militants were flushed out.
"Bita town is believed to be a Boko Haram stronghold, from
where the terrorists launched attacks on isolated villages and
motorists along the road to Gwoza and Damboa.
"During the encounter, 20 suspected Boko Haram militants
were killed, while scores of vehicles and 50 motorcycles were
destroyed.
"A soldier was killed and three other soldiers were wounded
in the operation."
Dole said soldiers were still pursuing the fleeing members of
the Boko Haram group.
"The troops, supported by the Nigerian Air Force, are
aggressively pursuing the fleeing insurgents in the general
areas of Bita and Sambisa Forest," he added.
He said the General Officer Commanding of the division,
Maj.-Gen. Obidah Ethan, appealed to the general public to
provide the division with credible information concerning the
movement of the fleeing insurgents.
