Controversy over Iyanya, Yvonne Nelson role in upcoming movie

It looks like Iyanya will be having Yvonne Nelson's waist all to himself pretty soon…

Yvonne Nelson and Iyanya. Photo: Nairaland

Reports say the pair will feature in an upcoming movie 'Ransom' produced by Elvis Chuks ('True Citizen', 'Huslter').

There was however some controversy following the report which broke today (January 7, 2014); An earlier report published on Linda Ikeji's blog claimed that the movie was Nelson's and the actress had reached out to her former lover for a role.

Yvonne immediately called out the blogger on Twitter, 'Hi @lindaikeji pls be accurate with stories involving my name. Thank you', suggesting that the movie wasn't hers…

The actress then confirmed to Bella Naija that Iyanya won't be part of any movie she would produce. 'It's false. I haven't approached anyone. Whoever is writing or sending these stories should stop it. I don't intend to cast Iyanya in my movie. Very false. Ikeji was forced to delete the post.

Alas, it might all just be another a publicity stunt orchestrated by Yvonne Nelson. Linda Ikeji claims Nelson's team sent her the news claiming that Chuks's movie was hers.

'@yvonnenelsongh lol. The things I don't say about u people. U my darling sent some1 to tell me it's ur movie. U want to trend today, ba? lol', Linda Ikeji replied the actress.

Yvonne Nelson's last produced movie was 'House of Gold' which featured the likes of Ice Prince and Omawumi.

2015: PDP Rules Out Automatic Tickets For NASS Members

The People's Democratic Party (PDP) on Tuesday said it would not offer automatic tickets to its incumbent National Assembly members in 2015 despite the spate of defections from its fold.

"There will be nothing like automatic tickets for anyone; incumbents and challengers seeking the PDP ticket must go through the normal process to secure it,'' the PDP Chairman, Zone 3 of Kaduna State, Mr. Joseph Gumbari, told the News Agency of Nigeria.

Recent reports had quoted some federal lawmakers as insisting on automatic tickets for the 2015 race to stop them from joining others that defected to the rival Alliance for Progressives Change (APC).

NAN reports that the ruling PDP has lost five governors, some key leaders and 37 House of Representatives members to the APC in the wave of defections that hit the party. But Gumbari, a former member of the House of Representatives, told NAN in Jos that conceding to the demand for automatic would "kill the PDP."

"No one can blackmail the PDP into making such concessions; we shall give the party's tickets to only those who deserve it. Those who have performed and are still popular should have nothing to fear.

"There are many law makers today that cannot visit their constituencies for fear that they could be attacked by their constituents. "Such people have abandoned the people and had offered nothing to better their lots.

You cannot impose such people on the electorate because that will endanger our chances,'' he said. He expressed surprise at the lawmakers' demand, instead of working to popularise the party.

Gumbari said that PDP's tickets would only be given to members that had been consistent in shoring up its image and strengthening it through effective representation.

We Did Not Award MBA To Stella Oduah - United States College Challenges Her MBA Certificate

Stella Oduah, Nigeria's Minister of Aviation who is embroiled in a scandal of towering proportions in the ministry, faces new integrity questions as her Masters' degree has been challenged by the United States school which supposedly awarded it.

Her resume, which she presented to the Senate as a ministerial nominee in 2011, indicated she obtained a Master's degree in Business Administration (MBA) from St. Paul's College Lawrenceville, Virginia, United States.

But SaharaReporters has learned from the President of the college that it has never in its 125-year history had a graduate school or graduate program.

The Provost Vice President of Academic Affairs, and the Vice President of Institutional Development said in response to our inquiries, "We don't offer any graduate programs here."

Similarly, the school's website states: "Saint Paul's College is accredited by the Commission of Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to award baccalaureate [bachelor's] degrees." There is no mention of graduate degrees.

The Minister's documentation shows she received an undergraduate degree in accounting from the college in 1982, but Dr. Claud Flythe, St. Paul's current president, could neither confirm nor deny this during a phone conversation with SaharaReporters. Further verification with the Office of Alumni Affairs is also currently impossible, the school said, because the college has been closed since June 2013 to loss of its accreditation.

"[Oduah] realized very early in life the indispensability of a sound education in her growth plans in life and therefore pursued her education with all diligence and sense of purpose," her documents claimed, adding that a determination "to have the best education at the highest level" prompted her stay at the Virginia college in 1983 for the MBA programme.

Too Sad: Student Of Ibadan Polytechnic Commits Suicide (Photo)

A part-time student of The Polytechnic, Ibadan, Oyo State,
Timilehin Ayobami Ogundare has been found dead in his
room at Ilupeju area, Baasala, Asero, Abeokuta, Ogun State
in western Nigeria.

He was believed to have committed suicide by hanging
himself. P.M.NEWS also gathered that the deceased was a
computer operator with a firm, Blueprint Music Studio in
Abeokuta, before his death.

A family source who did not want his name in print disclosed
that the deceased tried to kill himself last year but was
stopped by some people.

The relation revealed that the deceased was arrested by some
security guards and handed over to men of the state vigilance
service when he attempted to jump into River Ogun. He was
later released.

"The whole issue is still like a drama because I don't know
what could have made him decide to take his life. We have
been looking for him since January 1. Later, we heard that he
went to Lagos. He boarded a train from Lagos back to
Abeokuta on Saturday and came down at Lafenwa.

He trekked from the station through Enu Gada area to Ajitaadun down to Arakanga area with the aim of
jumping into the river.

"He was arrested by the security men in the area when they
saw him wandering with only his boxer pant on. They handed
him over to the Vigilante men at Oke Ilewo for further
investigation. We went there to collect him and we were told
to come back with him yesterday.

On getting to his room, we found out that he had hanged himself. He left a short note, apologising that he disappointed us," the source narrated in tears.

Must Read: Ciara writes an Open Letter To Bloggers;

Ciara Uses her personal Blog, to wrote:

I used to sometimes like visiting some of the blog sites to
see what new things are happening in the world! Things
like cool photos, current events, etc. But nowadays it seems
like there's a competition with sites on "Who Can Tear
Someone Down the Most." The stories are going from cool
and creative to pure drama. Even the comment sections are
beginning to get out of control and people are using the
platforms to exercise a false sense of power.

People sure do have a lot of courage when they are anonymous. It's like a "Who Can Say the Nastiest
Comment Game." I click onto some of the comments
from something as fun as an Instagram post that you're
sharing with your fans, and a person finds a way to turn a
positive post into a negative. I think to myself, "I could
pick this person apart so bad but what for? Why act ugly
like them?" It honestly takes the fun out of it when people
seem so miserable.

Or at least that's how I view someone wasting their
energy to tear someone down, just plain miserable. They
could be using that to do something much more
productive. If only they could channel their energy
towards positivity, it could make a difference in their own
life as well as influence others. It's kind of scary for the
kids coming up, because even if a parent doesn't allow
their kids to have blog site access at home, they may still
have access at school or other places. It's now almost
impossible to protect your kids from the vile things people
say on blog sites today, and it's even worse when kids
hear hurtful things about themselves, their parents or other
family members. In some cases kids have even resorted to
suicide due to "cyber-bullying."

My questions to people creating slander about people are:
What stops you from thinking twice about trying to
defame someone? What are you trying to gain?

Words are powerful. You could say the wrong thing about
someone, famous or not, on the wrong day and that could
cost them their life because they're at a weak point.

Believe it or not, you could also be encouraging them to
give up on their life or whatever the situation is, when
they shouldn't. Or what about a story that causes
unnecessary drama stemming from completely false
information? It's just flat out wrong and sad. I say to
myself, I thank God for making me strong, because I've
always been able to use the negativity as motivation, and
it makes me stronger.

But I don't just think about myself in this, I think about
others that I see getting thrashed and think it's just so
wrong. It's very sad that people just want to tear people
down so bad just to see them unhappy. It's unbelievable
how far people are willing to go to get people to come to
their site.

I say this to say….

Dear Blogger,

It's never worth it in the end when you sell your soul for
a quick dollar, by creating bad stories about people. At
some point, it will all reverse on you and you'll end up
regretting all the trash you wrote or said about people.

The universal friend "Karma" has demonstrated this
over and over again. I strongly encourage you to project
more positivity into the universe. If Social Media is a
world that's growing more massive by the day, why not
use it to shed light?? Otherwise, you are merely
contaminating our universe.

What about your family and kids?? Do you think about
them?? You're definitely creating a harmful and volatile
environment where they must learn to live. It's almost
like you are cursing future generations with your bad
energy.

Not to mention…Your "Personal Karma"??… Forget
about it!

You better start doing some serious praying and
rebuking, cause only The Lord knows!…:)

I sure do miss the good ol days when the focus was about
the pure creativity of being an artist. Back then there was
still some mystery. Social Media Is Beginning To Take
Away The Specialness of What That Was, and Is.

Now, Off Blogs. Peaceful Mind. Living In My Happiness.
Creativity Only.

Plateau Village Attack: 33 Victims Buried Amidst Tears

A day after suspected herdsmen attacked Shonong Village in Riyom Local Government of Plateau State, 33 people were given mass burial on January 7, 2014, Tuesday, amid wailing by friends, sympathisers and family members.

The number of the people buried in the town on Tuesday, punctured the claim by the Special Task Force (STF) on security in the state which on Tuesday faulted media that no fewer than 30 persons were killed in the village by heavily armed gunmen, suspected to be Fulani herdsmen.

The STF had said 16 people were killed in the broad day attack while five persons were injured.

Shortly after the mass burial, the community leader, Mr. Ilya Vomagai, said the attackers, armed with sophisticated weapon arrived the community on Monday at about 9 a.m. when most of the able-bodied men had gone to farm.

He said the armed men descended on the people around, most of whom were aged people, women and children and massacred them.

"The attackers had a field day and equally burnt some of those killed beyond recognition. The attack lasted for three hours but was later repelled by men of the STF," Mr. Illiya said.

According to the Punch, three more bodies were uncovered in a bush by the villagers.

It would be noted that Government of Plateau state decried Monday's attack on Shonong village, describing the incident as regrettable, urging the security agencies in the state to fish out the perpetrators and bring them to justice.

Leave my family alone, Schumacher’s wife begs media

GRENOBLE (AFP) – Michael Schumacher's wife pleaded Tuesday with journalists to leave her family and doctors alone, in her first comments since a ski accident in the French Alps left her famous husband in a coma.

Scores of reporters, television crews and photographers have besieged the hospital in the French Alpine city of Grenoble where the Formula One legend is in stable but critical condition following the December 29 accident.

Last week, Schumacher's manager Sabine Kehm deplored the tactics used by some journalists to try and catch a glimpse of the seven-time world champion in his room, reporting that one had dressed up as a priest to try and get in.

"Please support our shared fight with Michael. It is important to me that you take the pressure off the doctors and the hospital so they can do their work," Corinna Schumacher said in a statement addressed "to the media".

"Please have faith in their statements and leave the hospital. Please also leave our family in peace," she said.

News that Schumacher was in a medically-induced coma after falling and slamming his head on a rock while skiing sent shockwaves round the sporting world, and journalists are anxiously waiting for any update on his condition.

Following a flurry of speculation about his health, doctors looking after the 45-year-old said they would give no details of the treatment he is receiving in order to protect his right to privacy.

The German Federation of Journalists on Tuesday also echoed Corinna Schumacher's plea, urging reporters to use restraint while covering the German former racer's plight.

The focus has diverted onto the circumstances of Schumacher's fall on an off-piste section in between two slopes at the Meribel resort, which French investigators are probing to try and determine responsibility for the accident.

They are looking at the speed at which he was going at the time of the accident and are due to brief the press on their findings so far on Wednesday morning.

Schumacher was wearing a camera strapped to his helmet when he fell, and a source close to the probe said Tuesday that footage from the device could be used.

It had been unclear until now whether the camera was working at the time of the accident, or whether the footage would be clear enough to use, and it could be vital in helping investigators determine the speed.

"It's an important document", said the source, who wished to remain anonymous.

Prosecutors are also looking at whether the limits of the ski runs next to the accident site were correctly marked and whether the rock in question was lying close enough to the piste to require some kind of protection or signage.

They are also examining whether the safety releases on Schumacher's skis operated properly.

A German flight steward had also told Germany's Der Spiegel magazine that he had accidentally filmed Schumacher at the time of the accident and that the racing champion had been going at a maximum speed of about 20 kilometres (12 miles) per hour.

He had told the magazine he would hand over the footage to French police, which he has not done so far, the source said.

Schumacher dominated Formula One before retiring in 2012, winning more titles than any other driver and enjoying 91 Grand Prix victories between 1994 and 2004.

Lagos records 193 fire outbreaks in 38 days — Official

Lagos State Fire Service says it has recorded 193 fire outbreaks from December, 2013 to till date.

The Director of the service, Mr Rasak Fadipe, made this known to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday in Lagos.

Fadipe said the last incident occurred on Jan. 7 at about 3.08 a.m at Sawmill Market, Ipaja, Lagos.

No fewer than 150 shops were razed, yesterday, at the Trinity Spare Parts Market in Ajegunle area of Lagos. Above: The raging fire and rescue operation at the scene.

He said that 11 lock-up shops out of about 150 shops in the market were destroyed by fire.

Fadipe said that the shops destroyed contained planks, paints, chemicals, wood-cutting machines and other building materials.

According to him, it took men of the service about four hours to put out the fire.

"The fire spread faster due to the harmattan season.

"I advise members of the public to be careful with anything that can cause fire fast.

"The fire took us longer time to put out due to sawdust and chemicals in the market,'' Fadipe said.

The director said that no death was recorded in all the fire incidents.

Checkout Photos: Morbidly Obese Man Sheds 29st With The Help Of A Low Calorie Diet And Counselling

A morbidly obese man dubbed ‘The Human Doughnut’ has lost 29 stone with the help of a low calorie diet and counselling. Rob Gillett, 27, hit the headlines in March 2012 when he appeared on Channel 4’s ‘Supersize vs. Superskinny’ weighing 41st 10lbs. At just 25 years old and 5ft 3ins, his BMI was an incredible 104 – the healthy range is between 18 and 25.

Doctors became increasingly concerned about his health and now, in just 17 months, he has turned his life around by losing 70 per cent of his body weight. He has dropped to a healthy 12st 9lbs.

Mr Gillett, from Bridgend, said: ‘Taking the decision to lose weight wasn't easy as I knew I had to tackle my demons, and still can’t believe I have lost the same amount of weight as two grown men.

‘I have a new lease of life now. I ran a 10k race, do Nordic walking and have a personal trainer.’ Mr Gillett, whose waist measured 6ft 6ins, decided to take part in ‘Supersize vs. Superskinny’ as his first bid to lose weight. He said: ‘I wanted to do Supersize as I thought that it could help me deal with my weight, however, I just felt humiliated at the media headlines.

The attention I got from the show was just horrendous at times too. Somebody sent me a big box of Krispy Kreme doughnuts and put jagged pieces of metal in them. ‘The police never caught the person who sent the box, but needless to say my family and myself were distraught.  ‘I know that I was the person putting food into my mouth, but the reality is that food was not the issue - I was battling with underlying, deep-seated problems and I was using food to dull the pain.

Photos:Is Jude Okoye’s obsessed with guns or sending out a message?

Nigerian entertainment entrepreneur Jude Okoye seems to have a knack for showing guns off

Jude Okoye does it heavy on Instagram: from posting pictures of his luxurious automobiles to wads of cash littered on his bed but should we be worried when he starts putting up photos of firearms? Should we be worried?
A few hours ago, Okoye, elder brother and manager of Pop star twins, Psquare posted a photo of him supposedly handling three firearms including a revolver, a 9mm piece and a third firearm with the caption ‘Fuck with me cos u know I got ‘em‘, adding a money, music and gun emoji.
Fans however don’t seem to like the photo, with many calling it offensive.
Be careful. Unlawfull possession of arms‘, @kul_emmysteve commented. ‘So not right! #saynotoguns #stopgunsdisplay‘, another fan @kachizone wrote.
Yup……and childish too. Now the whole world knows you have them, including Naija police‘, another comment on a blog read.
Months earlier, Okoye had posted on the picture sharing social network a photo of himself handling double barrel shotgun.
Our conclusion: Jude Okoye is either in love with guns or he’s sending out a strong message to someone…

A first glimpse at Nikon's new flagship, the D4S

Nikon told us to expect a D4S preview at it's CES
booth, but this early look at the pro-grade model
actually comes courtesy of our Engadget colleagues in
Hong Kong. They spotted the DSLR at an official press
event for the D3300, though it was encased in glass,
which unfortunately prevented them from giving it a try
and discovering if it was anything more than a
prototype -- but, in any case, it at least suggests that
Nikon is largely sticking to its tried and tested control
layout. As for internals, the company is promising a
new imaging engine and faster autofocus, but there's no
word yet on the sensor -- we're hoping for an upgrade in
that department too, what with the two-year-old D4's
sensor having already appeared in a (slightly) cheaper
model in Nikon's lineup.

Explosion Rocked Ahoada High Court In Rivers State

An explosion rocked the Rivers State High Court, Ahoda,
premises, in the early hours of yesterday, though no casualty
was recorded in the blast. The Nigerian Bar Association,
NBA, building was partially affected in the incident.
The court was to have heard the application by the factional
Speaker of Rivers State House of Assembly, Evans Bipi, for
the vacation of an interim order granted by the court,
restraining him from parading himself as Speaker.
A second blast, was, averted, following the intervention of the
bomb squad of the Police, which isolated the second device,
concealed in a black cellophane bag.
Meanwhile, a fire incident at another River State High Court,
Okehi, yesterday, affected the judge's office. Some
documents and furniture were also destroyed in the fire. When
contacted on the incident, the state Police Public Relations
Officer, Mr. Ahmad Muhammad, said he was aware of the
fire, adding that no life was lost. He said that the Police was
investigating the incident.
Ahoada blast
On the Ahoda incident, Muhammad said: "We received a
report that an object suspected to be explosive was sighted at
the premises of the state High Court, Ahoada. Our anti- bomb
squad was dispatched to make it safe. One unexploded
improvised explosive device, IED, was recovered and
rendered safe while traces of an exploded IED were identified.
"At the end of the operation, it was established that two IEDs
were thrown into the premises from outside. The two were
initiated, but one went off while the other failed to go off due
to technical error. The exploded IED caused a minor damage
to court building. Neither death nor injury was recorded.
Considering the strength of the materials used in making the
devices, they were very weak and couldn't have caused severe
harm.
"Investigation into the incident has commenced with a view to
apprehending the perpetrators." he added.
Rep condemns Okehi fire incident
Meantime, the member representing Etche Omuma
constituency in the House of Representatives, Mr. Ogbona
Nwuke, has condemned the fire incident at the state High
Court, Okehi, Etche Local Government Area of the state,
saying that it was the handiwork of enemies of democracy.
"My immediate reaction was that enemies of democracy are at
work. Those who do not want to respect the rights of others,
those who do not believe in the rule of law and those who
have no regard for people's lives are at work," he said.
He called on security agencies to fish out those behind the act.
"The law enforcement agencies should apprehend these
faceless persons, who for political reasons, think that the best
thing to do is to turn Rivers State into an environment of
terror. This is the worst thing that should happen in this
country.
"The law enforcement agents should protect the interest of the
common man, which the judicial process represents," he said.
Some staff of the court, who spoke to Vanguard on the
explosion at Ahoada, said it occurred before they resumed for
the day's work.
Residents, who live close to the premises of the court, said the
night before, they heard an explosion at the canteen in the
court premises operated by the Ahoada Branch of the NBA.
Media aide to Chairman of Ahoada East Local Government
Area, Kassidy Ikegbidi, Blessed Oyagiri, who spoke to
Vanguard on the incident, said it was discovered this morning
(yesterday) that the canteen of the Ahoada Branch of the NBA
at the state High Court, Ahoda, was destroyed.
"We contacted the police, who drafted an anti-bomb unit and
confirmed that dynamite was employed in the blast. The state
High Court itself was not affected. I suspect those who carried
out the blast were not property briefed on the real target by
the masterminds, but the damage was enough to shut the court
as police continued investigation," Oyagiri said.
The council boss condemned the incident and warned the
Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Rivers State against
playing politics with the judiciary.
Ikegbidi, who described the incident as barbaric and
uncivilized, said: "The Judiciary is not the property of PDP,
but a property of all Nigerians. It is very wrong for any right
thinking individual or group to attack the judiciary, which is
the last hope of the common man in the name of politics."
It was gathered from workers in the court premises that if the
second explosive had gone off, it would have had more
devastating effect on vehicles and probably claimed lives
because it was dropped at the car park, where most people
would have left their vehicles.
The court, meanwhile, could not sit, yesterday, because of the
incident. The workers said there was still tension in the air
even after the police had scanned the whole area.
However, All Progressives Congress, APC, and Peoples
Democratic Party, PDP in the state, have engaged in a war of
words over the incident. Interim Chairman of APC, Mr
Davies Ikanya, in a statement, said that those behind the act
were allegedly uncomfortable with the recent ruling of Justice
Charles Wali of the state High Court ordering Bipi to stop
parading himself as Speaker of Rivers State House of
Assembly.
He said: "It is very unfortunate and sad to note that the state
High Court in Ahoada, was bombed this morning (yesterday)
by agents of undemocratic elements. Those that perpetrated
this act may not be far from those who are not comfortable
with the ruling by Justice Wali, of December 16, 2013 barring
Bipi, leader of the G6 rebel members of the Rivers State
House of Assembly, from parading himself as Speaker of the
Assembly."
On its part, PDP, in its statement, blamed those allegedly
against the High Court sitting to reverse its decision on Bipi
as being behind the explosion.
State Chairman of the party, Mr Felix Obuah, said those
behind the explosion at the state High Court, Ahoada, also
wanted to create a picture of an insecure Rivers State.
"The case that temporarily restrained Bipi from parading
himself as Speaker, Rivers State House of Assembly, was to
come up today (yesterday) at the court. Our team of lawyers
made up of over 10 Senior Advocates of Nigeria from Abuja
and Lagos arrived the state high court, Ahoda, this morning
(yesterday) to argue for the vacation of the interim order, and
saw the senseless and barbaric destruction of the court.
"The PDP makes bold to suspect that the reported bombing
was carried out by agents of Rivers State Government to
prevent the court from sitting, so that the court would not be
able to vacate the interim order made by Justice Wali."

concealed in a black cellophane bag.

Photo: A 21-Year Old Nigerian Girl Who Was Attacked With Acid In London Was 'Attacked' By Her Friend

A jealous university student threw sulphuric acid over her
friend in an attack inspired by the horrific assault on Katie
Piper, a court today heard.

Mary Konye, 21, disguised herself in an Islamic veil showing
only her eyes, and followed Naomi Oni home in East London
before allegedly dousing her in the corrosive acid. Ms Oni,
21, who worked at Victoria's Secret lingerie shop, suffered
horrific burns on her face and chest, lost her hair and eyelashes and was left scarred for life in the alleged attack on
December 30 2012.

Snaresbrook Crown Court heard that Konye, who was
studying business and finance at Hertfordshire University, had
been close friends with Ms Oni since secondary school.

But she was envious of the shop worker's good looks, and the
pair had rowed in the past leading Konye to attack her with
acid previously, it is alleged.

Konye knew Ms Oni had been deeply 'moved' by Katie Piper,
a model and TV presenter who was badly scarred and left
blind in one eye after she was attacked with acid in an ambush
arranged by her ex-boyfriend, Daniel Lynch.

Knowing this, Konye decided to launch the copycat attack,
jurors were told.

The court heard Ms Oni left work at the Westfield Shopping
Centre in Stratford, East London, at around 11.30pm with
several colleagues.

But she was oblivious to the fact she was being closely
followed by Konye wearing a full niqab, a hooded black coat,
gloves and a grey bag, jurors heard.

CCTV showed the university student had 'lingered waiting to
see the victim' at Stratford and 'tailed' her home always
making sure to keep a few steps behind her, the court heard.

On the phone to her boyfriend throughout the journey, she
stopped off at takeaway to pick up some food and got the 368
bus to her house.

Unaware she was being followed, she got off the bus at Lodge
Avenue, a few hundred yards away from her house.

But she suddenly became aware of a presence behind her and
spun around to see someone in a niqab who lobbed a glass of
acid at her.

Gareth Patterson, prosecuting, told jurors that Konye had
threatened to attack Ms Oni with acid on another occasion
after the pair rowed.

He said: 'Naomi will tell you about her friendship with the
defendant.

'In particular she will tell you how in the past they had an up
and down relationship and how the defendant had admitted to
her that on one occasion in anger she threatened to throw acid
at Naomi.

'There was a reason why the defendant would have chosen to
make such an unusual sort of threat.

'In the past the two of them had discussed a young woman
called Katie Piper.

'She was a woman who had acid thrown at her and that attack
had been reported in the media.

'Naomi and the defendant had discussed this and it appears
that the defendant knew that Naomi had been particularly
moved by Katie Piper's ordeal.

'Naomi stated that she and the defendant had fallen out in the
past and says that there was an occasion during a row when
she called the defendant ugly.

'She says that they were later back on speaking terms and
importantly, that the defendant said to her that she (the
defendant) had been so angry at the time that she had said to
someone else, a friend of the defendant's called Kamilah
Andrews, that she (the defendant) wanted to throw acid at
Naomi.

'Naomi believed that the defendant had realised just how
upset she had been by Katie Piper's horrible ordeal.'
Mr Patterson said: 'She could not see the face of the person,
just the light-brown coloured skin around the eyes.

'She believed it was a female. The woman was staring at her.
'All of a sudden Naomi felt a liquid being thrown into her
face. She screamed and immediately felt her face burning.
'She could smell her skin and hair burning. She immediately
ran home.

'Naomi's boyfriend Ato Owede was still on the phone with
her at the time of the attack. He describes how he was
chatting with her when suddenly he heard his girlfriend
scream.'

The liquid immediately burnt through her skin and clothes and
left her face blistered.

Screaming and shouting 'acid' she ran to her house in
Dagenham and desperately tried to wash the harmful liquid
off before being rushed to Broomfield Hospital for specialist
treatment for her burns.

Her house was packed with relatives who were staying for the
Christmas and New Year holiday and frantically tried to help
the young shop worker wash the acid off.

The skin on her face and part of her neck has turned white and
peeled off, and there was also burning to her nose, cheeks and
chin, right wrist, hand, stomach and left thigh.

She had to spend a month in hospital undergoing intensive
treatment for her injuries.

Specialist cops who deal with chemical spills tested the
clothes and a pool of water at Ms Oni's home.

They found that her burnt out clothes and the pool of water all
had a ph level of 1 - the most acidic.

Her cardigan had 'melted, producing a black tar-like material'
and had a 'pronounced acrid smell'.

They believe she was doused with sulphuric acid, which is
used in the chemical industry and found in batteries and drain
cleaners.

Konye, who was arrested on February 22 last year, denied
carrying out the attack or ever threatening to throw acid at
Naomi.

Mr Patterson said: 'She described the victim as being very
attractive and said she believed the victim had wanted to work
in make-up.

'She said they had had quite a few fallings out, including one
very big one, however she said she did not remember ever
saying she was going to attack Naomi with acid.

'She denied being in any way jealous of the victim's looks.'
He added: 'She agreed that she and the victim had previously
spoken about the acid attack on Katie Piper.'

But she denied carrying out the attack or knowing who did it.

Jurors were told there is mobile phone evidence placing
Konye on the same bus as Ms Oni.

Wearing her long hair down and a purple top and black
cardigan, Konye, of Canning Town, East London, sat in the
dock passively and repeatedly stared at the floor during the
hearing.

She denies throwing or casting a corrosive fluid with intent to
burn, maim, disfigure, disable or do grievous bodily harm.

The case was adjourned until 10.15am and the case continues
tomorrow.

Hon. Tambuwal, Tinubu Aganga set for J9C lecture in Lagos

The group, January 9 Collective (J9C) has announced that
Speaker of the Federal House of Representatives, Rt. Hon.
Aminu Tambuwal GCON will be the key note Speaker at
the second edition of its annual lecture series scheduled for
Sheraton Hotel, Ikeja, Lagos on Thursday, January 9,
2014.

In a release signed by its Publicity Secretary, Mr. Wole
Olagundoye, the group stated that this year, the
deliberations will be on the theme " Nigeria beyond
Petrodollar: A Realistic Perspective" and it will
feature key presentations from the Ministry of Industry,
Trade and Investment as well as the Lagos Internal
Revenue Service.

Elaborating on the reason for this year's theme, the
group's Chairman, Mr. Percy Ademokun stated that with
the fluctuating global prices of crude oil and the advent of
innovative technology, and also given the huge natural and
human resources available in the country, there is a serious
need to start exploring other economically viable avenues
so as to reduce the nation's current over dependence on
oil. This will help boost the economy and invariably create
the much needed jobs.

The event is expected to have Oba Adedokun Abolarin,
The Orangun of Oke-Ila Orangun as Royal Father of the
Day and will include panel discussions by seasoned
professionals after which a communiqué will be issued to
help shape the focus of all tiers of government in line with
the theme of this year's event.

Made up of dynamic professionals across different walks
of life, J9C was formed on January 9, 2012 in the wake of
the anti-fuel price hike protests (Occupy Nigeria) all over
the country. The group decided to use the anniversary of
that momentous occurrence to stimulate discourse on
issues of urgent national importance, ensure good
governance and promote equity in the polity.

Last year, the lecture's theme "Elite, Leadership and
National Transformation" was delivered by the former
Lagos State Gubernatorial aspirant, Mr. Jimi Agbaje and it
was attended by politicians, activists and top government
functionaries.
