The Aneke twins have dragged Multichoice Nigeria to court
over their movie, Compulsory Risk that was aired on their
channel illegally. According to the girls, Multichoice Nigeria
didn't ask them for permission before airing the movie. They
have been hearing from friends that their movie has been aired
several times, but never had the opportunity to watch it
themselves. But this particular day, the twin girls were at
home when the movie was aired and they quickly recorded it
as proof of evidence. The case is still in court.

Emeka Ike Repossesses School: ‘It Was A Kangaroo Court Judgment'

Embattled boss of St. Nicholas College and star actor, Emeka
Ike has been telling whomever cares to listen that contrary to
earlier reports that his school was shut down, his school still
operates from its No. 1, Raji Olamideji Crescent, Magodo,
Lagos, pending the resolution of disagreement the
management has with the original owners of the property.

Talking to Encomium, Emeka blamed his landlord for the
impasse. He said he failed to appreciate the fact that school
business is not only capital intensive but requires long time to
make profit. That he and his wife had spent millions of naira
in the project in the interest of raising up Nigerian kids.

On the allegation of mismanaging the school, the
controversial actor said that was the opinion of hatchet
writers who wouldn't mind their business. He wondered how
people who have no share or any form of investment in St.
Nicholas College would accuse its owners of mismanaging it.

He rather clarified that the academic reputation of St.
Nicholas College has been the envy of all. Emeka Ike boasted
that his school made one of the best results in external
examinations with students making their WASC and GCE in
SS2, also citing the unbeatable record of his students at the
MTN sponsored 'Who Wants To Be A Millionaire' quiz where
they won the biggest prize money to emerge the best school in
Lagos.

In the same vein, Emeka Ike's spokesman, Great Imo has
pleaded with stakeholders to call internet rats masquerading as
newsmen to order. Blaming the report of alleged shutting
down of St. Nicholas College on them, he advised the public
to be wary of them.

"Like we have stated, St. Nicholas College was never shut
by any authority. So, please disregard the report in the
social media. There is a calculated attempt here to run
down respected Nigerian celebrities who have their names
to protect. The school is still there, pending when it will
move to its permanent site. Emeka Ike is not just an A-list
actor, he is a brand. If you go to South Africa, Britain,
France and the US, his opinion about Nigeria counts. He
is one man who represents the country well. So, why
must he be rubbished by faceless writers?

We say in totality the story is false. Yes, there was an
issue arising from a kangaroo court judgement which has
been vacated because the possession of the said property
is still in the care of Emeka Ike. The school was never
shut at any time.

St. Nicholas College is still there, because that is where
Emeka Ike has taken a long lease. The school signboard
is still there because that is where the Lagos State
government gazetted the school. We have not announced
any relocation. If there is any development, we would tell
you. Schools are in session. Those saying otherwise are
deliberately undermining the millions the school owners
have invested there over the years. Emeka Ike has
invested millions of naira in the school so as to give the
best education to Nigerians."

St. Nicholas College was allegedly shut by the court on
Friday, January 24, 2014, after the school lost a court case in
respect of its property. But the school owners have repeatedly
stated that the institution can only be closed down by relevant
authorities. And claiming that the order has been vacated, the
school management had earlier faulted it since the matter was
still on arbitration when the court gave a judgement in favour
of the original land owners.

We’ll Pressure Nigeria To Reverse The Anti Gay Law – United States

The United States government has vowed to continue to press the Nigerian government to reverse its anti-gay law.

The US Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs, Linda Thomas-Greenfield, said this during a live-web chat with journalists in Washington. Our correspondent monitored the web chat in Abuja.

Thomas-Greenfield also said that America was not bothered that Chinese companies were fast taking over the African market from their US counterparts.

President Goodluck Jonathan had on January 7, 2014 assented to the Same Sex Marriage (Prohibition) Bill 2013 which criminalises homosexuality in the country.

On January 14 when it became public that the President had signed the bill into law, the US, Canada and the European Union openly expressed reservations over the law.

Thomas-Greenfield, who said the US had adopted the protection of the rights of same-sex people as part of its foreign policies, vowed that Washington would continue to mount and sustain pressure on Nigeria and other countries to reverse their laws against the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender community.

She said, "As a government, it is one of the highest priorities and strongest values that discrimination against anyone based on their sexual orientation and gender identity is wrong. We believe human rights should be available to everybody.

"As a policy, we will continue to press the government of Nigeria as well as other governments who have provided legislation that discriminate against the LGBT community."

Thomas-Greenfiled, who did not agree that pressuring Nigeria to reverse the anti-gay law amounted to interference, said the country and Uganda had the hardest legislation on the gay community.

She said, "This is very much a work in progress, but I think you will agree with me that the law in Nigeria really went far in discriminating against this community but also people who associate with them.

"So we will continue to press the government, to press the legislature to change these laws and provide human rights for all Nigerian people regardless of their sexual orientation."

She, however, did not disclose if the US would impose sanctions on the countries with anti-gay laws to achieve its objectives.

Thomas-Greenfield was optimistic that the U.S would win the fight to protect the LGBT community.

She said, "With what is happening in the US, you can determine how far we are willing to go. We strongly believe human rights for all people and we are particularly opposed to legislation that actually targets the gay community for discrimination. So we are prepared to push this as a policy not just in Africa but across the world."

According to sources close to Nigerian Soul singer and funky guitarist Olufemi Sanyaolu a.k.a Keziah Jones and wife, Smooth FM On-Air Personality Hauwa Mukan, the much admired couple are no longer together. That they got separated December, 2013.

Even though there's no official statement from the couple,
rumours were sparked last year when Hauwa began attending
functions without her spouse. Then in a recent radio
interview, when Keziah was asked about his wife, he simply
chuckled. Even after being probed by the interviewer, he
made no mention of his wife. This is in contrast with previous
interviews where he spoke enthusiastically about his
sweetheart.

There are no pictures of her either on his Instagram page since
July 2013.

It is being speculated that the vast 18 year age difference
between the couple – Keziah is 46 while Hauwa is 28 as well their long distance marriage might be the cause of the breakup. Keziah traveled a lot for shows, was based mostly in Paris while Hauwa lived at their Gbagada home in Lagos.

Jones, an internationally-acclaimed musician has, however,
been married once before to an Anglo-Nigerian singer, Akure
Wall, in 1994 but the couple separated two years later. And
now his second marriage is over, at the same age.

2015: FG assures on credible election

The Federal Government has assured development partners that the 2015 general elections will be credible and transparent.

This assurance came as the United States and Britain raised
concerns about prospects of logistic problems and the security
challenges in parts of the country tarnishing the outcome of
the election.

The new US Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr. James Entwistle and
the British Deputy High Commissioner, Mr. Peter Carter, said
in Lagos that the development partners and members of the
European Union, EU, are keenly watching Nigeria's
preparation for the 2015 general elections, which they insist
must adhere to the guiding rules of engagement.

But in a telephone interview with the Special Adviser to the
President on Political Affairs, Alhaji Ahmed Ali Gulak said
"Nigeria welcomes the concerns and support of its
international development partners in the forthcoming
election, which is an expression that democracy and
development have become inseparable", adding that "we
attach great importance to our democratic process because we
have seen the consequences of military dictatorship in our
political history. We also respect the genuine concerns of our
development partners as we advance in our democratic
experience." .

The US ambassador, who hosted a media round table in Lagos
said "the US is concerned about the security situation in the
North East as well as the logistic challenges of conducting
elections in Nigeria".

On his part, British Deputy High Commissioner, Mr. Peter
Carter, told members of Nigeria-Britain Association (NBA) in
Lagos that "the credibility of the election matters to Britain
and its partners in EU and US because that will set the tone to
attract the required inflow of capital from overseas investors."

ASUU May Embark On Another Strike

Another strike by members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) is imminent as there is fear over the implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding reached with the federal government.

Indications emerged as the national treasurer of ASUU, Dr Tunde Aremu, while speaking at a luncheon held in honour of media for their roles in the last strike in Ibadan yesterday, disclosed that government was yet to release the N220 billion for 2014-2018 programmes.

He warned that the gates of the universities might again be shut should government refuse to implement the MoU reached at the tail-end of the last strike.

Aremu explained that the money was to be released on quarterly basis and deposited at the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN). However, he expressed fears that the MoU reached with the government before the last strike was called off might end up not being implemented as agreed.

Wondering why the government let the last strike continue for 5 months, he said that they don't want another strike to be launched.

While commending the media, Aremu said that the emancipation of Nigeria depends on the media and urged them not to rest in their oars.

He said the struggle for the implementation of the 2009 agreement had been partially won and called on the media to beam their searchlights on the universities on how the money would be spent.

Meanwhile the chairman University of Ibadan chapter of ASUU, Dr Olusegun Ajiboye, said the union had no option than to proceed on the inevitable strike since all avenues to let government realize the need to implement the agreement had failed.

Ajiboye lamented that the government didn't manage to use the resources at its disposal to effectively fund the educational system of the country.

Bricklayer Abandons Wife With Triplets In Ekiti

A bricklayer, Mr Adewale Omole has abandoned his wife in a
`spiritual home' after he heard that she was expecting triplets
in Ado Ekiti.

Narrating her story, Mrs Abosede Omole, who already had
two children, told newsmen that her husband abandoned her
and the babies.

She said that her husband started behaving strange after she
went for a scan in Lagos where she was told that she was
expecting triplets.

Abosede, who gave birth on Friday at the Ekiti State
University Teaching Hospital (EKSUTH), said "my husband
abandoned me even before I gave birth and he has refused to
perform his responsibility as father.

"He left me without food. That is why I had to relocate to this
spiritual home where I have received spiritual succour and
financial assistance.

"Since the sudden disappearance of my husband, life has not
been the same again, as I, the two children and the newly
born triplets are finding it difficult to survive.

"I am begging him to come back for the sake of these
innocent babies," she pleaded.

Abosede appealed to Gov. Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti and well
meaning Nigerians to come to her aid.

Confirming the story, the Matron in-charge of the maternity at
EKSUTH, Mrs Adenike Oluyide, called on well wishers to
assist Abosede, as the triplets are currently at the Special
Baby Care Unit of the hospital.

A member of Sabbath Mission Church, Omiolori, Okesa,
Ado-Ekiti, who came to the hospital to see the woman and her
children, confirmed that Abosede came to the church and was
taken to the hospital.

The church member, who pleaded anonymity, said the
leadership of the congregation felt she could benefit from the
free medical programme of Ekiti State Government for
women and children.

Would Twitter, Instagram or Vine be any fun if you

Zap had: it was a unique, localized photo-sharing
service that left non-Droid owners out to dry. Users of
any Android phone could call up the app and see what
other users in a 1,000-foot radius were sharing, but
were barred from sharing anything unless their device
was Droid-branded. Now, Motorola is finally letting
other phone owners become part of the conversation,
opening the app's photo-sharing features to all Android
devices. Unfortunately, the full experience still isn't
available to everyone: the new Zap Zone feature (a
timed, live and shared photo album) is exclusive to
Droid devices, as is the ability to send videos and
regular files. Still, with the ability to participate at least
a little, non-Droid users finally have a reason to try the
app.

Microsoft starts selling ASUS' VivoTab Note 8 for $329

ASUS, like many other companies, took to CES 2014
to introduce a number of new products. Among these
was the often-leaked VivoTab Note 8, an 8-inch
Windows 8.1 tablet with support for Wacom pen input.

If you were remotely intrigued back then, it looks as if
Microsoft has now (quietly) placed it up for grabs in the
US. Currently, Redmond's online store is selling the
32GB model of ASUS' VivoTab Note 8 for $329,
which is slightly different than the $299 price tag it was
announced with in Las Vegas. Strangely enough, there's
also no apparent sight of the 64GB flavor, which makes
us think that this Bay Trail-powered, pen-friendly slate
may have been listed ahead of time. Regardless, it's
very much available here -- at least for the time being.

website. Paying €29 ($40) will get you an Aloe- or
Keira Black-colored shell, either of which changes the
system sounds and wallpaper to reflect a cohesive
theme. And if you're not happy with Jolla's designs, you
can make your own -- the company has released a
developer kit that includes the 3D printer file, software
instructions and tech specs that you'll need to get
cracking. It currently takes two to three weeks for The
Other Half units to ship to European customers, but
anyone who's unwilling to wait can grab the do-it-
yourself tools right away.

Sigma's dp Quattro cameras boast higher- resolution sensors and an extra-wide design

No, you're not looking at a projector -- it's the dp2
Quattro, the first of three cameras in Sigma's new dp
Quattro lineup. That unusually wide, almost cinematic
body is meant to provide a more balanced feel in the
hand than the compact design of its predecessors.

However, the real centerpiece is underneath: every
camera has a new version of the three-layer, color-rich
Foveon X3 sensor that takes higher resolution photos
(20 megapixels versus 15.3) while improving both
performance and battery life. Sigma has also made a
leap to a faster TRUE III image processor. Unusually,
there's also an optical viewfinder available for purists,
which should work well with the fixed lenses. The dp2
Quattro will come with a 30mm f/2.8 general purpose
lens, while the dp1 and dp3 will respectively carry
19mm wide-angle and 50mm telephoto optics. The
company hasn't said just when the Quattro cameras will
ship, but history suggests that they won't be cheap.

Rick Ross Settles $2m Lawsuit For Missing Star Mega Jam?

American Rapper, Rick Ross has reportedly settled a $2million dollars court dispute with the organsers of Star Megajam, for missing the Nigerian concert in December 2011.

The Maybach boss who later came to the country in August, 2012, attributed his absence at the event, to the 'violent events in Nigeria'.

According to Radaronline, the company (organizers), a British firm, 'Ross and Zons P.R' paid Rick Ross $87,500 for the gig, but he failed to show up. They asked for a refund, but the rapper wasn't forthcoming, which compelled them to sue
for $2M in damages.

Both parties have now reached an undisclosed settlement. Zons PR is owned by Nigerian promoter Sheila Okonji, from whom we could not immediately get comments.

Mob Forces Gay 'Couple' To Have Sex On Video In Portharcourt!

Only PDP Can Save Nigeria –President Jonathan

President Goodluck Jonathan on Saturday said only the Peoples Democratic Party could save Nigerians despite the challenges facing the party.

Jonathan stated this in Sokoto State during a grand rally and reception organised for a former governor of the state, Attahiru Bafarawa, who defected to the PDP from the All Progressives Congress with his supporters.

Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Tambuwal, was however conspicuously absent at the rally attended by Vice-President Namadi Sambo; President of the Senate, David Mark; the state deputy governor, Murktar Shagari, top government and party officials.

The state governor, Aliyu Wamako, had recently defected to the APC alongside four other former PDP governors.

Jonathan stated that PDP remained the symbol of democracy in the country and that Nigerians, including religious leaders, business leaders, men and women who are not partisan politicians, believe in the party.

He added that if Nigeria was practising parliamentary system of government, he would have called for early elections to prove that PDP was still in control despite the gale of defections it was experiencing.

The President said, "I was telling some people when we were coming this morning (Saturday) and I saw the crowd, that if we were running a parliamentary system, where the prime minister can call for early elections, I would have called for early elections.

"Let us see where this noise is coming from, whether they are supported. Some people are afraid to go back and contest the seats because in a normal setting, if a parliamentarian leaves his seat and crosses to another party, the assumption is that you have consulted with your constituency and they agreed that you should cross over.

"Such a parliamentarian would want to call for early elections to show that he is going with his constituency, but in Nigeria, the story is different."

While listing the feats achieved by his administration in education, agriculture, power and road construction, Jonathan disclosed that after Sokoto, the team would also go to Imo, Kano and all the geo-political zones to showcase the party's achievements to the people.

He added that Nigerians get jittery when they hear the challenges the party is facing "because the feeling is that if anything happens to PDP, it will affect the country."

"The reasons are obvious; PDP is the only party that is stable. It has undergone its changes. Other parties are still changing, we don't know where they will change to but PDP is stable at all levels and we promise that PDP will continue to give leadership at all levels.

"PDP is the only party that has the vision to lead this country to stability and economic revolution," he stated.

Vice-President Sambo commended Bafarawa for his bold initiative in joining the PDP with his large followers.

"The umbrella will soon be filled up, those wishing to join should better do so on time," he said.

National Chairman of the PDP, Adamu Muazu, said the PDP remained the party to beat in the country in the next 60 years.

In his remark, Bafarawa said he was led into joining the fold of the PDP on the instruction of his people.

He assured the President that as far as Sokoto was concerned, he should "go to sleep."

He said, "Mr. President, I don't want to tell you too many stories. As far as Sokoto is concerned, you can go and sleep. You don't have any problem. We have been winning the elections; we have been rigged out and manipulated out.

"Today, we are back to the mainstream of PDP; there is no other party that will get even a councillor seat in Sokoto, except PDP. This is a message I'm delivering on behalf of my people and the entire people of Sokoto State."

Meanwhile, on Saturday, newly appointed National Director (Contact and Mobilisation) for Goodluck Support Group, Mr. Perry Opara, said ahead of the 2015 general elections, over 3, 200 groups had indicated interest to organise rallies for the re-election of the President.

Opara, who is a PDP chieftain said, "For a long time, we have discovered that some of the people in government and in the present administration are not reaching out to Nigerians and telling them what the government is doing and its achievements.

"We were called to work at the hub of the Presidency and we have been there for over two years. As I speak, over 3, 200 groups have indicated interest to organise rallies and conferences for the President's second term, for which he has the right, if he so desires."

While describing the threat by the All Progressives Congress to take over power from PDP as an old threat, Opara said the planned rallies would win more support for Jonathan.

He said, "I assure you there would be rallies in support of President Jonathan, after the rallies, you will see the opposition reduced to 35 per cent."

A Nigerian and Cameroonian pop star who launched a skin
cream called Whitenicious has defended her product after
critics branded it an 'abomination' for promoting skin-
bleaching.

In an interview with Ebony, Dencia claims that the skincare
cream is intended to remove dark spots, and that it is out of
her control if customers use it to whiten their entire skin.

Defending her own drastically altered appearance since she
started using Whitenicious, the singer asserts: 'I was never that
dark in real life... And guess what? I don't even care because
[critics] are bringing me business.'

According to the product website, Whitenicious - which bears
the slogan, 'Say goodbye to pigmentation and spots forever' -
effectively lightens skin in just seven days.

Skin bleaching is a growing trend in Dencia's native West
Africa, and critics are angered that it appears she is promoting
it with her product.

Specifically, the pop star has been criticized for using her own
changing skin tone as a marketing technique. Pictures of
Dencia taken in 2011 show her with much darker
pigmentation compared to the Whitenicious campaign where
she appears several shades lighter.

'When you take that picture and you put a picture of Dencia
darker, this is what you're telling people - the product really
works. And guess what? People really want to buy it. It's what
it is. I don't really care,' the singer admitted.

Still, she refutes the idea that she is glorifying lighter skin,
claiming it is for removing dark spots only and that she came
up with the name because it's symbolic for 'fresh beginnings'
and 'purification'.

She then elaborates by saying: 'Look at all the Africans that
are successful in the world. They are as Black as Alek Wek.
And if I was as Black as Alek Wek, I would never ever use
anything on my skin.'

Ultimately, Dencia admits than Whitenicious can indeed be
used to bleach skin, but that most women wouldn't use it this
way because of its luxury price point.

'I don't see anybody spending all that money to bleach their
entire skin,' she says of her product, which costs $60 for a
small pot and $160 for a large one. 'I don't see that
happening.'

Without skipping a beat, though, she proceeds to contradict
herself by asserting that if a customer were to bleach her
entire skin, it would be beyond her control.
Finally, when Dencia is warned that skin-lightening cream has
been proven to cause cancer, she counters: 'But guess what?
The air you breathe outside causes you cancer. Everything in
the world causes cancer.'

When Dencia launched Whitenicious in January and saw it
sell out within 24 hours, critics took to Twitter to voice their
outrage that she would promote a phenomenon that has come
to symbolize self-hatred among dark-skinned women.

One person posted a tweet directed at her, writing: 'This
#whitenicious cream of yours is an abomination and creating
more insecurities among women all over the world.'

And another said: 'When Martin Luther King, Jr. said, "I have
a dream…" The dream was not to become white.'
