Man , 28, bags 21 years imprisonment for snatching motorcycle

An Ibadan High Court on Friday sentenced one Saheed Sogaji, 28, to 21 years imprisonment for conspiring and robbing a man of a motorcycle.
Justice Bolaji Yusuf said that the prosecutor had been able to proof the charges against the accused beyond reasonable doubt.
He sentenced Sogaji to seven years imprisonment for conspiracy and 14 years for robbery.
The judge said that the sentences were without option, adding that the sentences would commence from the day Sogaji was put in custody.
Earlier, the Prosecutor, Titilayo Dairo, told the court that Sogaji and others faced two-count charge of conspiracy and robbery.
She said that Sogaji and his colleagues now at large, conspired to rob one Kehinde Isiaka of his Bajaj motorcycle with registration number LUY 080 OA,  on March 26, 2012 at Odo-Ona Elewe in Ibadan.
The prosecutor said that the offences contravened Sections 516 and 401 of the Criminal Code Cap 38 Vol. II Laws of Oyo State of Nigeria 2000.
Sogaji had, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The Defence Counsel, Mr Fola Awoyemi, prayed the court to temper justice with mercy with his client.
Awoyemi said that Sogaji, from Cotonu, had been in prison custody since March 26, 2012, adding that he had also lost his parents.

Breaking News: EFCC arrests Governor Sule Lamido’s sons over alleged N10billion fraud

Aminu and Mustapha Lamido, sons of Jigawa state
governor, Sule Lamido have been arrested by
the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC)
over an alleged N10 billion fraud.
The pair are currently being interrogated by the
commission at the EFCC headquarters after they were
arrested on Thursday in Kano by a crack team of
detectives and flown to Abuja on Friday morning.
From the reports given by insiders, the arrest of the
governor's sons was in connection with an investigation
that began in December 2012 when Aminu Sule Lamido
was arrested at the Mallam Aminu Kano Airport en
route Cairo, Egypt over his failure to declare he had
$50,000 on him.
Although Aminu has since been prosecuted and convicted
by a Federal High Court in Kano, investigation as to how
he came by the money has led investigations to uncover a
web of money laundering in which billions of naira from
Jigawa state government accounts are funnelled into the
accounts of companies run by the Jigawa state governor
and his two sons.
Over N10billion is said to have been transferred from
Jigawa state government accounts into the accounts in
which Sule Lamido and his two sons have interest from
2007 till date.
The Commission is said to have traced these transfers to
10 companies where Lamido and sons are directors and
signatories to the account.
The companies include Bamaina Alluminium Limited,
Bamaina Holdings Limited, Bamaina Company Nigeria
Limited, Rawda Integrated Services Limited, Speeds
International Limited and Saby Integrated Nigeria Limited.
The account of these companies received huge cash inflow
between 2007 and 2013, a period that coincide with the
tenure of Sule Lamido as governor of Jigawa state. For
instance in Bamaina Aluminium where Sule Lamido and
his two sons are directors, investigations revealed that the
company's account controlled by Mustapha as signatory
received total credit of N1.52billion between January 2010
and August 2013. It recorded a total debit of the same
amount, with Mustapha and other companies in which
Lamido and his sons are directors, being the beneficiaries.
In the same vein, Bamaina Holdings Limited's account
with the governor as sole signatory received a total of
N1.19billion between February 2007 and July 2013. About
N1billion was paid from this account into accounts of
companies controlled by the governor and his sons.
Massive lodgements were also discovered in the account
of Bamaina Company Nigeria limited controlled by
Mustapha as sole signatory from Bamaina Alluminium.
Between January 2010 and July 2013, the account
received over N500million.
From the account of Rawda Integrated Services Limited
controlled by Mustapha, there have also been massive
movement of funds to another company run by Sule
Lamido, Speeds International Limited. Speeds' account
recorded a turnover ofN2.2billion between January 2007
and February 2010.
In the account of Rawda with a new generation bank
investigators discovered the movement of N2.6billion to
an unknown signatory.
That account recorded over one hundred withdrawals
running to over N600milion in cash between November
2007 and April 2008
Saby Integrated Services Nigeria Limited, another
company owned by Lamido received over N730million
from several Jigawa State government agencies between
June 2010 and August 2010.

Pleading to a Grade 1 Area Court in Aso Pada, Maraba,
Nasarawa State, a 38-year-old housewife, Lami Shaibu
asked for the dissolution of her 15-month-old marriage to
her blind husband, Ibrahim, over his alleged excessive
sexual urge.
Shaibu told the court : "I urge the court to dissolve this
marriage because I can't stand his excessive sexual urge.
He likes sex too much, I can't bear it.
"Since I got married to him, there is no peace in the house,
he always beats me, he doesn't forgive and does not
provide food for the house" she said.
Lami said: "It is because of his too much sexual demands
that made me to move away from him. I now stay at my
marriage guardian's house at Aso Pada, Mararaba."
Ibrahim, 56, who resides at the same address with Lami,
denied the allegation, saying: "I still love her with the
whole of my heart.
"I, therefore, urge the court to give me time to reconcile
with my wife. I believe she and I can settle the matter
amicably."
The judge, Malam Danladi Musa, adjourned the case to
November 18, for settlement or continuation of hearing

Break News: Court sentences ‘Thisday-bomber’ to life imprisonment

Alleged kingpin of the Boko Haram sect, Mustapher Umar, who allegedly bombed office of the Thisday Newspaper in Kaduna State with 12 camp gas cylinders, was today, handed a life sentence by a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja.
Trial Justice Ademola Adeniyi in his judgment, said he was convinced that the accused person deserved to be "removed from the public so that he will not kill more innocent persons."
Consequently, the court, aside asking the convict to pay the sum of N150million to the families of the three persons that died as a result of his terrorist act, equally ordered that he should be subjected to hard labour while in prison.
Other media outlets affected by that attack on the premises of SOJ Plaza in Kaduna State on April 26, 2012, included the Moment and the Sun Newspapers.
The High Court had heard how the accused person wept bitterly when he was rescued from a badly burnt Honda car that was allegedly used for the operation, saying he had been denied the opportunity of inheriting 72 virgins in heaven.

Paul Play: My Trusted Friends Abandoned Me When I Was Sick

Bouncing back after a seven-year break, Paul Play Dairo
recalls the medical challenge that affected his career and how
those he trusted and thought were his real friends actually
deserted him.

"There were some who said and did things that made
me say 'Oh, even you too', but you know it is part of life
that when things are down you lose your friends. Right
now, I am not afraid of anything. I am stronger and can
take whatever life throws at me."

After a seven-year hiatus, ace music producer and artiste, Paul
Play Dairo, is working towards staging a big come back.
Having dropped a total of five singles since March, he says
the response has been massive. The RnB star who says he is
up-to-beat with current trends in the music scene, writes
Punch's Jayne Augoye.

"The idea is basically to fill in the gap since my last album
and also sample people's opinion. Thankfully, the online
comments have been encouraging. So far, I have recorded 20
songs and some of them have already been released as singles.
I am currently tidying my gospel and each track has an
element of Nigerian flavor and pop.

"The bulk of the money is no longer coming from album sales
because these songs are already online and people are
downloading them. Music business is now streamlined to
performance and endorsement. I am still going ahead with the
limited edition album which will be expensive because that
way I will be able to control and monitor the sales and
distribution," he discloses.

When Paul Play launched his way into the Nigerian music
scene in 1999, riding on the goodwill and success of his late
father, IK Dairo, he enjoyed solid patronage. Within a short
period, he also earned an independent voice of his own,
springing hit singles that include Mosorire, Happy Day and
Yes O!

In 2009, however, his career was threatened when he fell ill in
South Africa, while shooting some music videos for his last
album and had to be rushed to a hospital. In his absence, the
media was awash with speculations over the nature of the
illness. It was rumoured that he had cancer, kidney failure, a
spiritual attack. Four years after, he has clearly moved on,
choosing not to dwell on the nature of the ailment.

According to him, the near-death-experience has taught him
some lessons. He talks about a few of them in a low tone
saying, "I was taught to be scared of God, and not to depend
on man because God is ultimate. You don't have to trust man,
but psyche yourself that people are close to you for one reason
or quality or the other. I lost many trusted friends during my
ailment and gained a few in the process."

The year 2014 is 'Paul Play Dairo's year', if indications
emerging from the soft spoken artiste are anything to go by.
He intends to release a Box Set - two albums of highlife and
gospel music. The third will be RnB.

Play is optimistic that his fans will embrace his return and
warm up to him.

"If you say it is difficult to come back and then give up things
will pass you buy. If the likes of Lionel Richie and Stevie
Wonder have stood the test of time, why label yourself as old
school? With a good pedigree, people will respect you and
with God you can still make a comeback," he said.

Man Called Police to Remove Snoring Woman From His Bed

Police in Wisconsin said a man called 911 to demand officers
remove a snoring woman whose name he didn't know from
his bed.
Waukesha police said local man Benjamin Duddles called 911
around 4:21 a.m. Nov. 10 and said he needed officers to
remove a woman who was "snoring like a train" in his bed,
the Chicago Tribune reported Thursday.
Duddles, who admitted he had been drinking, told the
dispatcher he could not remember the woman's name and he
had brought her home because they had been "talking."
Duddles held the phone up in his bedroom to give a sample of
the snoring sounds to the dispatcher, who sent officers to the
home.
The officers woke the woman, who told police she suffers
from sleep apnea, a condition that can cause loud snoring.
The police report said officers told Duddles they would not
forcibly remove the woman from his apartment.
"He was advised this was not a police matter because he
allowed her in. He was provided the comfort of his couch for
the evening and to work out the 'issue' in the morning," the
report said.

8 Patients Slump On Free Medicare Queue In Yola

At least eight patients, most of them in critical condition, collapsed while awaiting medical attention at the official flag off of a week-long free medical attention sponsored by the member representing Yola North, Yola South and Girei Federal constituency in the House of Representatives, Hajiya Aishatu Ahmad.
The free medical mission which attracted thousands of people
with different ailments was flagged off at the state specialist
hospital, Yola.
The patients, who were on queue for over six hours awaiting
the commencement of the ceremony, allegedly collapsed due
to tiredness.
Two of the collapsed patients, who were hurriedly moved to
the Out Patient Department of the hospital were victims of
snake bite.
The others, among them two women, were vomiting
uncontrollably.
Thousands of other patients who were on queue expressed
disgust at the way the organisers of the free medical services
attached more importance to the opening ceremony than
saving lives of the patients.
Declaring the ceremony open, Hajiya Aishatu Dahiru Ahmed
announced that the week-long free medical mission would
treat 450 cataract cases, give 1,100 reading glasses, 2,000
hepatitis B and 4,000 HIV/AIDS cases.
Former Minister of State for Health, Dr. Ali Pate, who was
the chairman of the occasion, expressed regret that
malnutrition was taking its toll on the society due to the
increasing poverty rate and urged political office holders to
provide the needed three square means to Nigerians,
especially children.

Fulton have reportedly been stolen from her home and a
handyman has been arrested in connection with the crime.
'The Frozen Ground' actor has drafted in police officers
to recover steamy pictures of himself and ex-girlfriend
Christina Fulton – the mother of his 22-year-old son
Weston – that were allegedly stolen from her home.
TMZ says law enforcement officials have arrested
handyman Richard Orozco, who is accused of the theft,
and charged him with felony burglary. However, Orozco
has pleaded not guilty and the photos have yet to be
found. The arrest occurred last month and the handyman's
bail has been set at a whopping $1 million.
It's thought the pictures were stolen from Christina's home
in April and the culprit nabbed four computers, as well as a
box containing the illicit snaps. The 49-year-old star began
dating Christina, 46, in 1988 and the couple welcomed
their son Weston into the world in December 1990.
Nicolas has been married three times since his relationship
with Christina. He wed 'Medium' actress Patricia
Arquette in 1995, but the marriage ended in divorce in
2001.
The star then married Lisa-Marie Presley, the daughter of
Elvis Presley, in August 2002 in a short-lived union which
lasted just three months. The couple split in November
2002 and finalised their divorce in 2004.
The actor is currently married to former waitress Alice

Ibrahim Shema over the loss of his father, Alhaji Shehu
Shema.
"Governor Jang praised the community leadership of the late

Forget it, you can not change Nigeria! - Gimba Kakanda

Bring Barack Obama to Nigeria, and he will turn
into Goodluck Jonathan II in less than a year. I
give you my words. Our institutional collapse and
indiscipline is that infectious.

Too many beautiful ideas, too many dreams, too much
passion, but the road to implementations remains rough
and uncertain. This is the atmosphere of Nigeria's
revolutionary minds. Here is a country where patriots who
had advocated the praxis of good leadership, and had even
adopted models whose achievements they aspired or
expected incumbent governments to match, ended up as a
bunch of our problems when given an opportunity to
serve. And we ask ourselves: where did we go wrong?

Last Friday I listened in on interesting rhetoric of Nigerian
youth at a discussion circle, and their theatrics actually got
me worried and thinking even though it was not the first of
such experiences of anger over a dysfunctional
government. The consensus of the majority was that mere
individual declarations to stand out, easy imitations of
America's Barack Obama's "Yes, We Can" gimmicks, are
enough motivations for rebuilding Nigeria. Sorry, I find
that proposal for rescuing Nigeria from this gang of
thieving and under-performing leaders who were once like
us, ambitious and honest, rather impracticable.

It is as misleading and fraudulent as many motivational
books marketed as "New York Times Best Seller".

Obviously we have followed the happenings in the West
for too long, we have lost tracks of our realities. Ours is a
diseased system deserving a streak of surgeries, and in
which an individual contribution is just like a placebo.

Calling for surgical operations on Nigeria is asking for
adoption of strict measures to deal with whoever tampers
with national resources. Unless our legal system can resist
bribes and issue a writ of execution for the hanging of,
say, corrupt public servants, the temptations to
misappropriate public funds may possess us all.

There is another delusion that suggests that Nigeria needs
qualified leaders, and by these they mean intellectually
sound politicians, to oversee the affairs of government.
Proponents of this idea are the intellectual elite still
confused by years of theorising the tragedies of Third
World countries; their intellectual delusion is as a result of
attempts to copy the ways of their hosts, American and
European governments whose policies are not models for a
people in need of Bread and Fanta to stay alive.

To be very frank, Africa doesn't need more education –
outside the technical, that is! – nor leadership training to
build viable nations. There is a PhD-holder almost per-
family across Nigeria, especially. We have everything:
Harvard-trained, renegade, elitist, visionary and whatnot
intellectuals, trained overseas, all strutting to become
change agents. But what's missing is a system wherein to
exist, a law to check them, to stop them from becoming
corporate rogues, an institution to inspire and breed them.
I always assure myself that everybody is indisciplined in
the absence of rigid laws, everybody is potentially corrupt
where penalties for misappropriations of public funds or
compliances therein are not stiff or impunity is a sure gain.
We have the political think-tanks, everything necessary to
build a nation of functional institutions but our system is
built on the foundation of steal-and-let-steal philosophy.
This philosophy has accomplices not because Nigerians
are genetically criminal, but because…"Why suffer when
nobody appreciates?"

Calling for a political reform based on a delusion that
African leaders have insufficient leadership training is an
error. Bring Barack Obama to Nigeria, and he will turn
into Goodluck Jonathan II in less than a year. I give you
my words. Our institutional collapse and indiscipline is
that infectious. We underestimated the statistics of our
influential human capitals. Perhaps we may return to the
records of Petroleum Technology Development Trust Fund
(PTDF) to get an estimate of our citizens on its oversea
scholarship scheme, and ask the Nigerian "big men" and
politicians to send us the CV of their many children to
appreciate the vastness of our human resources.

See, I patronise this hangout where some children of the
"financial elite" ally to pass the time, and one idle day I
awakened to a certain realisation – that I was actually
seated among people who ought to have been celebrated
on the basis of their academic credentials or should have
been engaged in a functional institution here, for among
them were graduates of Yale, MIT, Princeton, name it,
and the least educated actually has an M.A. I can count
many Nigerians from our infamous politicians to those
unknown patriots of that hangout who had had training in
Leadership at Harvard, and like-minded Ivy League and
Red Brick institutions.

But how has theirs affected the fortune and political
realities of this structurally diseased nation? My governor,
for instance, was trained at Pittsburg. He holds a doctorate
in Public Policy and Strategy Studies! But, well, you may
need to compare him to his contemporaries to understand
the analogy I don't want to draw in this brief piece. Why
couldn't these leaders abide by the lessons of their
trainings? Because they exist in a system where they get
away with their frauds, where their private interests are
more important than public trust. May God save us from
us!

reports. Now Coal has confirmed he was never signed to
the Don Jazzy led label.

In an interview with Adesope Olajide on Vox Africa along
with DJ Abrantee and Yvonne Nelson, Wande Coal
revealed that he was never signed to Mavin Rercords after
his former label Mo'Hits Records folded up

'There's no beef, there's nothing so, I mean the song
babyface was supposed to be on my album but since we fell
out. I was just there, it was void [be]cause I didn't have
any contract', Wande Coal replied, addressing the recent
controversy over his new single 'Babyface'.

Don Jazzy had earlier accused Wande of stealing the song,
which he claims he owns. Days after a Twitter spat between
the popular artistes, Mavin Records released a statement
announcing Wande's exit from the label.

Wande went on talk about why he started off his Black
Diamond Entertainment label.

'Everybody knows I'm Black Diamond; I've been with Don
Jazzy for a while now. It was something I really wanted to
do so I just decided to start my own outfit', Wande said.

We are told that none of the Mavin Records artistes are
signed to the label and are all working in 'good faith' for
now.
