Microsoft shows off Xbox One dashboard and multitasking in latest video

Microsoft focused on big name games in its "Invitation" ad last week and now it's turning its attention to the Xbox One's entertainment and multitasking abilities. In a video entitled "Meet Xbox One," the company highlights the console's dashboard but also its Kinect integration, demonstrating switching between games, videos, TV and apps like Internet Explorer and Skype simple "Xbox" voice commands. We see a user jumping between a movie and the Xbox One exclusive, Titanfall, then recording and sharing some in-game footage before switching to the console's TV app. Kinect functionality may have been limited on the Xbox 360, but new voice commands can apparently achieve some complicated tasks -- such as snapping an app into split-screen mode -- with greater ease than regular Windows 8 swipes or keyboard shortcuts. Then again, it's a publicity video that looks to have had some rough edges smoothed off, so we'll have to wait until next month to see if the reality matches Microsoft's vision.

Crime: Court Sentence Nigeria Ejiogu Benjamin Ikechukwu To Death By Lethal Injection for drug trafficking in Vietnam

A Ho Chi Minh City court sentenced a 31-year-old Nigerian man to death for smuggling more than 3.4 kg of synthetic drugs from Qatar to Vietnam in June 2012.

Ejiogu Benjamin Ikechukwu, who arrived at HCMC's Tan Son Nhat International Airport on June 23, 2012, was charged with illegally transporting drugs, the HCMC People's Court said.

While examining Ikechukwu's luggage upon his arrival, customs officers discovered 19 bags of white powder hidden in 16 metal cylinders and a laptop adapter.  Tests conducted later showed that the powder was methamphetamine, a kind of synthetic drug.

Ikechukwu was arrested the same day and confessed that he was carrying the cylinders and adapter for a man named Onyekachi, who is still at large.

According to Ikechukwu's testimony, Onyekachi said that when he arrived in Vietnam, someone would contact him to take pick up the goods.

Under Vietnam's Penal Code, those who are convicted of smuggling more than 2.5 kilograms of methamphetamine will be given a death sentence.

The capital penalty is also applied for those who are indicted for producing or selling 100 grams of heroin or 300 grams of other illegal narcotics.

Several foreigners have recently been sentenced to death for smuggling drugs into Vietnam.

On February 2, 2012 the southern Tay Ninh provincial court sentenced Chinese national Zhu Yin Xiang, 48, to death for trafficking over 1.3kg of heroin from Cambodia into Vietnam . Xiang was arrested  on August 16, 2012, at the Moc Bai boder gate in the province

In June 2012, a 23-year-old female student from Thailand received the death penalty from a Ho Chi Minh City court for trafficking three kilograms of methamphetamine from Benin to Vietnam.

Last October, a court also sentenced a 61-year-old Filipino woman to death for smuggling five kilograms of methamphetamine into the country.

In regards to the execution of death sentences, Vietnam switched from the firing squad to lethal injection in November 2011, under a decree from the Law on Criminal Verdict Execution, approved by the National Assembly in 2009.

However, the new execution method took years to implement due to a failure to import the necessary materials from the European Union (EU), which banned the exportation of lethal injection drugs because it considers capital punishment a violation of human rights.

Therefore, the Government amended the decree, allowing domestically produced drugs to be used for executions.

The decree took effect on June 27 and the first execution by lethal injection was carried out in Hanoi on August 6.

David Beckham and son involved car accident

David Beckham and his son Brooklyn were involved in a
car accident on Friday October 25, 2013 when he hit
another car as he left his Beverly Hills home.
The retired soccer legend reportedly hit another car at
around 2.30pm as he was leaving his home in a black
Range Rover Sport, with eldest son Brooklyn, 14, in the
passenger's seat.
According to eyewitnesses, David came out of his driveway
and drove straight into a white Acura vehicle driven by an
unidentified female.
Police quickly reported to the scene to question the 38-year-
old hunk and David was only happy to oblige, parking his
damaged vehicle back in his driveway following the
incident and awaiting the arrival of officials.
Two police officers were seen leaving the Beckhams'
Beverly Hills mansion after questioning the star and they
were also seen quizzing onlookers and the passengers of the
other vehicle.
Neither David nor Brooklyn are thought to have been hurt
in the accident as they were wearing seatbelts. However,
the soccer star's car appeared to take the brunt of the
collision – with the front bumper falling off the vehicle.
Just hours before the accident, David and wife Victoria
Beckham – who also have sons Romeo, 11, Cruz, eight,
and two-year-old daughter Harper – were spotted attending
a SoulCycle exercise class with Brooklyn.

Lagos-based lawyer, Mr.Daniel Onwe, has dragged the Federal Government and Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, before a Federal High Court, Lagos, over violation of the fundamental right to the dignity of person of the affected students, who have been out of school following the union's strike.
The suit, FHC/CS/1360/13, was brought pursuant to Section 46(1) and (2) of the 1999 Constitution, Order II of the Fundamental Human Rights (Enforcement Procedure) Rules, 2009 and Article 5 of The African Charter on Human and People's Rights (Ratification and Enforcement) Act, Cap. 10, LFN, 1990.

He is seeking for an order directing the Federal Government and ASUU to resolve their differences and forthwith re-open universities, including an order mandating ASUU to call off their ongoing strike action and resume their job of lecturing in the said universities immediately.
Hearing on the suit, before Justice Ibrahim Buba, is on November 13.

Edo State Government has denied hosting Dillish

An official statement has been released by the State
Government categorically stating that the state did not host
or entertain the 29-year-old Namibian when she visited the
South-South state. The statement was released in reaction to
an article in the Daily Independent newspaper on Friday,
October 25, 2013, where Eddie Iroh condemned the
Governor for 'spending state's funds so recklessly'.
The report stated that 'the likes of Governors Oshiomhole,
Fashola and Dickson who are in the habit of dipping their
hands into public funds on such ventures should have
known that in civilized climes, such celebrations were
funded from the Governors'pockets and not public funds'.
'How libelous! From the above, it is obvious that Mr. Eddie
Iroh is suffering from brain wave. First, it would have been
a thing of interest for Edo State Government to host the
said BBA winner, Dillish, to justify her well-advertised
declaration in the BBA House that Edo State people are
very hospitable. That in itself was a global endorsement
that is purely priceless. Again, if Dillish would agree, as a
BBA ambassador, Edo State Government would be willing
to host her in future to prove to cynics and naysayers like
Eddie Iroh that Edo State is indeed, not only hospitable, but
also a safe haven for those who intend to do legitimate
business in the State', part of the statement signed
by Prince Kassim Afegbu, Special Adviser Media and
Public Affairs To The Edo State Governor said.
'To the best of our knowledge, Edo State did not host
Dillish in whatever material particular. This could be
verified from the Governor's daily routines which are
usually available for public consumption and can be
confirmed from the Protocol Department of the Governor's
Office or Government House', the statement continued.
Sources say Oshiomole personally hosted Dillish, with
some insisting she wasn't hosted in the Government house
but at the Governor's private lodge.

BBA winner Dillish finally meets with ‘lover’ Melvin

Big Brother Africa – The Chase winner Dillish
Matthews has made Nigeria her second home, travelling in
and out of the West African country for the past few weeks.
And she's finally met up with her 'lover' Mevlin Oduah.
The pair met up in Abuja last night at an Acoustic Night
event held at Blue Velvet Marquee. And they looked
beautiful together.

Chris Brown, bodyguard arrested for felony assault

Chris Brown has been arrested and charged with a felony
assault, according to multiple reports.
The Pop singer was picked up along with his bodyguard
Christopher Hollosy on Sunday, October 27, 2013 by the
Washington Metropolitan Police. The pair were allegedly
involved in an altercation with another man outside the W
Hotel, police say.
Both men have been taken into custody and are being held
at the 2nd district police station.
CB, 24, is currently on probation in California for a felony
domestic violence conviction which involved his former
girlfriend Rihanna. If CB was to be arrested again it would
result in jail time due to a violation of probation.
He is scheduled to appear before Los Angeles County
Superior Court Judge James Brandlin on November 20 for a
probation status hearing.
The Pop singer has been involved in several altercations
most notably with rapper Drake and Frank Ocean. He had
however been lucky not to get indicted.

LG reveals specs for G Flex -- its curved display smartphone

LG's much-rumored G Flex will feature a 6-inch 720p curved display, according to specifications released Sunday by the company.

Weighing in at 177 grams, the G Flex measures between 7.9 and 8.7 millimeters thick at various points along its vertical arc. The handset is powered by a 2.26GHz quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor and sports 2GB of RAM, a 13-megapixel camera, and a 3,500 mAh battery.

A "dual window" mode allows the screen to be divided to accommodate multitasking and a "swing lock screen" changes the appearance of the handset's wallpaper in relation to how the device is being held and presents different unlock touch effects based on the position of the user's finger.

Comparing one of the handset's features to superhero Wolverine's ability to regenerate tissue cells to heal his wounds, LG said its smartphone will also have a "self-healing" scratch-resistant film applied to its back cover that the company promises will remove light scratches "within minutes."

The specs were included in a Korean Newswire press release that didn't offer any hints on when the consumers can expect a global rollout for the device. LG is slated to introduce the phone in November, although that date could shift.

CNET has contacted LG for more information and will update this report when we learn more.

As CNET senior editor Jessica Dolcourt explains, a flexible display doesn't mean the phone will be able to bend or flex. Rather, the display will be set at a curved -- but stationary -- position. The curve is dramatic enough to comfortably fit around your face but not so angular that it looks weird.

LG touted this technology in a press release in May and introduced a curved 55-inch OLED TV panel and 5-inch plastic OLED panel as a demonstration at a trade show.

HANG MAN

A boy comes running into the kitchen and says, "Mommy, mommy! Grandpa hanged himself in the living room!"
His mother runs into the living room, and sees no one there. Angrily, she says, "Listen. You should never lie like that to me again, do you understand!?!"
"I'm sorry," says the boy. "I was just kidding. He hanged himself in the basement."

JOKE: THE GOLFER AND THE BUTTER

A man is participating in a golf tournament. He was left to golf with just his caddy. On his tee-off, the golfer's ball lands in a patch of buttercups. The caddy tells the golfer he can take the ball onto the course, and he won't take a one stroke penalty. However, the golfer refuses and takes the ball out of the buttercups and takes the stroke penalty. Suddenly, Mother Nature appears.
"What you just did was amazing. I am so proud that you enjoy nature and all of its beauty. For your reward, I will give you a lifetime supply of butter."
"Thanks," says the man. "But where were you last week when my ball landed in the pussywillows?"

ALBUM REVIEW: Brymo’s Merchant, Dealers and Slaves is about broken promises, deception, hypocrisy and unfaithfulness

Album- Merchant, Dealers and Slaves
Artiste- BrymO
Guest Appearances- David
Producer- Mikky Me
Label-
Duration- 32 minutes

BrymO has delivered the best album of his career and of
the year.

Merchant, Dealers and Slaves is a beautiful, emotionally
rich and soulful construction from BrymO. The singer with
the rich voice delivers the best album of his career till date
as he faces legal woes with his record label Chocolate
City.

While his second album Son of A Kapenta did have its
flashy moments, it was devoid of soul. After his
controversial announcement saying he was no longer
working with Choc City, BrymO went into seclusion to
work on his third album. With producer Mikky Me
orchestrating the lush and layered instrumentals that wraps
the album nicely into a cohesive piece of aural art,
BrymO's soulful and thick voice glides, floats and stumps
its way into your soul.

The album is darker and more reflective. On the surface it
is the story of a village boy who leaves his town for the
seducing bright lights of Lagos city. In his quest for
money, BrymO gets wise to the wiles of life. That's just
the top layer. Merchant, Dealers and Slaves is about
broken promises, deception, hypocrisy and unfaithfulness.
Merchant, Dealers and Slaves starts with love. 'You be like
my blueprint/there is no plan without you/there is
something about you, truthfully' sings BrymO on the great
qualities of his woman. Love doesn't pay bills so by the
next track BrymO is all about the pursuit of money. Backed
up by a menacing guitar played by David, the former Choc
Boi's mind is on money. It's a playful track with BrymO
mocking his empty pockets and boasting to a banker that he
will be loaded by the end of the year.

Within the next two tracks, BrymO dumps his girlfriend
named Titilope for all the riches and wealth 'Eko' (Lagos)
has to offer. No one knows what BrymO meets in Lagos
but it's pretty clear that he didn't meet the Golden Fleece
based on the mood and tone of most of the remaining songs
on the album. On the brooding 'Down' BrymO is disgusted
about the sexual merry go round that is happening in the
society. Using liquor to ease his pain and disappointment,
BrymO on 'Cheap Wine' is hopeful despite the gloomy
circumstances. 'You see the good times never come. We
take the bad one and drink our cheap wine. Yo da, yo da (it
will be good)…' encourages BrymO. The title of the track
also serves as an indicator that he is not living the life of
luxury he expected.

Earlier on the album, BrymO made it sound like that he
was the one who dumped his girlfriend. On one of the best
tracks on the album 'Purple Jar', the singer reveals the real
reason why his relationship with Titilope ended on the first
verse. He was unfaithful. Coming to terms that what he had
with her can never be gotten back he moves on to another
woman. However his fame and love scars won't allow him
love her wholly. The harmonica solo on this track is soul
hunting and enriches the spirit of the song. There's a line in
the second verse that caught my attention. When BrymO
says 'half of my heart has gone famous' does it mean he
found fame in Lagos but not money? Is the whole album
some sort of loose narrative about his experiences with
mainstream music? BrymO sounds so disillusioned on this
album, his wide grin replaced with a thoughtful and sad
facial expression.

On the Reggae influenced 'Everybody Gets to Die', BrymO
sings about inequality in the society. 'The poor man wants
a space, the rich man wants the place' he sings backed by
soulful horns. The singer gets philosophical on the song
which boasts of yet another amazing production.

The centre piece of M, D and S is 'Se Bo'timo'. BrymO
delivers the entire track in his native tongue Yoruba (the
only track of such on the album). With a proverb that says
'if you put an egg on your left palm and another egg on
your right palm and walk to Iseyin in Oyo backwards, those
who will praise you will and those who will criticize you
will' BrymO tells us that no matter what you do in life
people will talk. Just do you. This is BrymO's finest hour
as he channels the musical wisdom of singers in the 70's.
He obviously didn't find money in Lagos but his
experiences have made him a wiser man. On the epilogue
of the LP, BrymO delivers the title track and classifies
people in three categories, 'merchants, dealers and slaves'.
It's a very short track which ends with an illuminating
acoustic jam. When listening to this track you get the
feeling that BrymO might be heading back home to his
village. Maybe he will end up patching things with Titilope
and drink a bottle of cheap wine with his rolling stone
grandfather which he sings about on 'Grand Pa', just
maybe.

BrymO might be fighting for his music career at the
moment but the former Chocolate Boy has delivered the
album of his life.

Just eleven tracks long, BrymO has created a piece of work
that will amaze, astound and more than impress even his
most fervent critics. His voice sounds richer and
rejuvenated. The production on the album is layered with
enough soul to last three generations. And it probably will
because BrymO is essentially saying that all that glitters is
not gold, a well-known saying. Is it a classic? It's too early
for that. Is it a masterpiece? It is a soulful masterpiece that
is emotionally charged with amazing production. Merchant,
Dealers and Slaves is the best sounding album of the year
– at least so far.

Rating- 4.5/5

Sexy Mercy Johson Reveals All Her Inner Features

I am Mercy Johnson, an actress. I was born 29 years ago and I am the fourth child in a family of seven. My father is an ex-military officer and I left my mother at the age of two to live with him. Due to the nature of his job, he was constantly transferred from one station to another. I am proud of him because he taught me all I needed to know from childhood to adulthood.

Movie industry

I have grown with time and there have been good and bad times. There have been rumours and scandals. Sometimes, when I cry in movies, it wasn't the script that made me cry. Rather, I reflect on my humble beginning and the height I've attained now. This makes me cry.

Journey into acting

After my secondary school education, I approached a friend for assistance to feature in a movie. He took me to the National Theatre, Lagos, but a role did not come until a year later. My first lead role was in a film titled, 'The Maid.' It was quite challenging to interprete because it was my first movie. When I saw the veterans on set, I fidgeted.

A star actress

Life is in phases and I cannot say I have reached the peak of my profession. I have not even won an Oscar yet! There is always a higher mountain to climb, a new vision to fulfill and I am at that point. I want to achieve new and greater dreams.

Fulfillment

The greatest fulfillment is the ability to influence people positively through my acting.

Challenges

Life is not a bed of roses; it comes with challenges which make me stronger and who I am.

Nollywood: Then and now

We have achieved feats which the old Nollywood did not achieve. It is all about progression and I am sure that in the future, Nollywood will achieve a greater feat than it is doing currently.

Relationship

My husband is loving and he is an understanding man. I am so happy to be married to him. I acted a movie, 'Baby Oku in America' when I was heavily pregnant and he didn't feel bad about it. He understands that I am an actor and sometimes, we need real life situations, like the pregnancy, to interpret a role. Not many men would allow their wife do that.

Scandals

They are all lies. I just think the media needs to do their verification well before they put any story out. Whenever I read all manner of lies about me in the media, I wonder where all of these came from and regret being an actor. But in all, I move on and take it as one of the hazards of the job. I am fulfilled as an actor.

Mercy Johnson Foundation

I floated the foundation because of my love for the less privileged. One of my greatest joys is to see other people happy. I want to make lasting impact in my society. The objective is to identify the needs of the less privilege, evaluate them and help in our own little way. I strongly believe that as movie stars, we should live beyond the euphoria of stardom.

A sexy woman

It is inbuilt. It's just how you feel about yourself. For me, being sexy is confidence. It mustn't be about the hairstyle or the accessories or the big buttocks. It's about you, liking yourself just the way you are.

Motherhood

My husband is a wonderful man. He makes my job easier and helps carry our daughter, Purity. He feeds her and she misses him whenever he is not around. As a family, we understand one another and we make whatever adjustments we have to make in order to have a good home.

Success

The challenges I faced have yielded results and I am reaping the fruits of all my efforts. I have grown from nobody in the industry to becoming a top actress from Africa. To God be all the glory.

To be an actress

Talent is never enough you must constantly brush up your talent but training can come in different form. You only need to ensure that in whatever form, you are not just relying on your inborn talent.

Projects

There are many but I'm not permitted to disclose them yet. They will start unfolding soon.

Fear

My worst fear will be to leave this earth without making a huge impact.

Fashion

I don't wear what is in vogue or what everybody is wearing, I just wear what suits me and I'm lucky to have a physique that encourages everything I wear. My husband is a huge critic, so when he pays compliments to my dressing, I feel so good. He doesn't believe that exposing anything makes you look better. He feels when you cover up, you look real nice.

To upcoming actors

Be yourself and let your talent speak for you. Don't come into the industry because you want to be famous, but because you love the art of acting. Then try to appreciate those who were there before you.

Apple's plan to wipe out disc drives is nearly complete

The disc drive is dead -- or it's at least issuing a triumphant death rattle.
Not in PCs just yet, but certainly in Apple's Macs. Earlier this week Apple introduced updated versions of its MacBook Pro with Retina Display, alongside an all new Mac Pro. What wasn't updated was Apple's line of non-Retina MacBook Pros, the only Apple devices that were still sporting a disc drive. In fact, Apple axed the 15-inch version and trimmed the non-Retina line to a single, 13-inch machine. The company has whittled away at product lines like this in the past, and it's usually a sign of imminent extinction.

Qualcomm: Microsoft's Surface 2 can't compare to Nokia's Windows tablet

Nokia's new Windows RT tablet turns the Finnish handset maker into Microsoft's rival, but at least one Nokia partner says there's really no competition.
Nokia earlier this week unveiled the Lumia 2520, the company's first tablet and the second current device in the market to run Windows RT. The other is Microsoft's Surface 2. Microsoft is in the process of buying Nokia, and the product release puts the two in an awkward position.

But executives at chipmaker Qualcomm say Nokia's tablet has a clear advantage over the Surface 2 in everything from processor speed to graphics, video playback, and wireless connectivity.

House of Representatives may order arrest of Stella Oduah – Spokesperson

Hon Zakari Lafia Mohammed is the spokesman of the
House of Representatives and a member of the House
Committee on Aviation. In this chat, he speaks on how the
committee will ensure that all necessary avenues are
explored to deliver justice to Nigerians on reckless
spending in government.

The Minister of Aviation is said to have gone abroad
despite the N255m cars scandal involving her. Do you
think her action is appropriate?
That is another serious act of impunity on the part of the
minister. It is also a clear case of not taking the parliament
seriously, it is rather unfortunate. All she ought to have
done is to delegate her Permanent Secretary or a Director
in her ministry to carry out the rituals of signing the
BASA agreement and face squarely what is on ground for
her. The heavens will not fall if another person signs on
behalf of Nigeria. We will not stop until we get to the
bottom of why such a huge sum of money was spent for
vehicles.

What exactly did the National Assembly approve for the
NCAA?
Take a peep at page six of their budget, we approved 5
Toyota Pickup Hilux, 16 Toyota Corolla, 5 Toyota
Landcruiser Jeeps, 3 Toyota Hiace buses all at a cost of
N240 million but they eventually bought 54 vehicles
through the bank lease for the sum of N643 million which
was financed by the bank. There was no time we discussed
the issue of a lease with them during the budget defence. I
do not want to preclude this investigative hearing but we
will dis-passionately seek justice for all Nigerians through
this investigation. Never again in the history of Nigeria
will public servants take Nigerians for a ride.
But, from all indications, it appears as if the minister may
not meet your deadline for the hearing as you are expected
to close shop on Tuesday?
If she fails to show up we will issue a bench warrant to get
her arrested.

Arrest! Has it come to that?
This is a national issue that must be properly thrashed out
with the zeal of a wounded lion. If need be, we will ask
the Speaker to issue a bench warrant immediately she fails
to show up and she will be arrested. We've given her
enough grace as the committee will sit on Friday, Monday
and Tuesday. All those excuses given on her behalf will
not hold by the time we conclude our findings.
You mentioned that NCAA officials used two budgets.

What do you mean?
Yes! They are using both the approved budget and the
unapproved one. In the approved one, we clearly deleted
the purchase of armoured cars and, in the approved
budget, armoured cars were not captured. This is a clear
case of ineptitude and negligence of duty which can never
be accepted by Nigerians that we represent here in the
National Assembly.
But why would….?
The simple instruction we gave is that they should delete
the armoured cars. We argued then that they do not need
such cars to inspect perimeter fence. It is embarrassing to
us and the entire country.

Frightening Revelations: Why planes may keep dropping off the skies

Last week, the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority, NCAA, announced plans to embark on yet another round of safety audit of all domestic airlines operating in the country.  This is coming as an aftermath of the crash of Associated Airlines' plane in Lagos which claimed the lives of at least 15 people.
The plan to audit the airlines will be one in a series of airlines' audit which had trailed the aviation industry since aircraft started falling off the skies since 2005.  After the crash of Bellview Airlines in October 2005; Sosoliso in December 2005 and ADC in October 2008, each accident had come with safety audit of airlines, yet planes keep dropping off the skies.
What this means is that there appears to be a fundamental problem in the system that has not been addressed, and that has to do with policies enunciated for the industry by government.  There is a suggestion that no matter the volume of safety audit conducted on airlines, safety would remain elusive as long as the operating environment created for airlines remained harsh.
Neither would re-modelling of airports reverse this trend. The mortality rate of airlines in Nigeria isnhigh due to what observers describe as a very harsh operating environment.  Bellview, ADC, Sosoliso, Spaceworld, EAS, Harka, Okada, Oriental, Concord, Flash, Air Nigeria are some of the airlines that have exited the airspace in the last 10 years.
This is frightening.  Some others may yet follow.
Firstly, the tax regime introduced by government for airlines in the country creates a near asphyxiating ambience for operators. Airlines pay all sorts of charges which stifle them.
Consequently, this is the reason most airlines find it difficult to meet their financial obligations to suppliers, service providers and staff. Even the payment of salaries and aircraft maintenance, when due, becomes a Herculean task. Airlines in Nigeria pay some of the most outrageous charges in the world.
These come in form of ground rent, landing and take off, day and overnight parking charges as well as navigational fees; and these are exclusive of other multiple taxes imposed by government. Overnight parking charges range from between N25,000 and N30, 000 per aircraft. Airlines in Nigeria also pay government taxes as high as 18 per cent of sales, including Value Added Tax, VAT, Passenger Service Charge, PSC and NCAA's TSC. These taxes and charges, to say the least, are stringent for the airlines to operate safely and profitably. And an airline that cannot operate safely and profitably is an accident waiting to happen.

CRAsHED: Fuselage of the crashed aircraft Embraer 120RT Brasilia, registration number 5N-BJY.
Another reason air safety would remain a challenge in Nigeria, no matter the frequency of audit, is the cut-throat price of aviation fuel, otherwise known as JET-A1.  At present, this product sells for between N170 and N200 litre, depending on which part of the country it is being sourced. And because up to 40-45 per cent operational cost of airlines revolves around aviation fuel, the product is a huge cost component of their operations in the country.  Over time, fuel suppliers have insisted on dispensing their products on a cash and carry basis because of the inability of airlines to settle accumulated debts arising from previous purchases.
This has largely been responsible for some of the delays and flight cancellations experienced by passengers at airports across the country.
Currently, there is no sign to indicate that government is addressing the problem.   Most foreign airlines do their re-fuelling in neighbouring countries because of the high cost of aviation fuel in Nigeria but the local airlines have nowhere to go.
When it comes to the issue of aircraft maintenance, the situation is even more dire for the airlines. Aside from a few of the airlines which have capacity for A and B checks in the country, all airlines operating in Nigeria take their aircraft to other countries for their C-check, which comes up between nine and 18 months, depending, however, on the number of cycles an aircraft had clocked within the period. This costs airlines as much as $1 million per aircraft.
The situation is so because there is no standard hanger anywhere in the country where such a check can be conducted on aircraft.
Consequently, airlines in Nigeria take their planes to such countries as Ethiopia, Morocco, Egypt, South Africa, France and even tiny Mauritius for their C and D checks.
At the last Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul, MRO, conference in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, in February, experts were unanimous on the leverage and cost-cutting advantage an MRO centre has on airline operations and safety.
They also attributed the absence of it in Nigeria to most of the safety issues that had arisen in the country this decade, particularly in the last couple of years.
Over time, stakeholders in the industry have clamoured for the establishment of a national hangar by the Federal Government as no one airline could shoulder the cost of establishing it.  Though successive aviation ministers bought into the idea, nothing was ever done to bring it to fruition. Had government set up an MRO centre, the issue of taking planes out of Nigeria and paying exorbitantly an hard currency would have since Stopped and Nigeria would have become the hub of maintenance in West Africa.
At the moment, there is no such centre in the region. To be able to cope with multiple taxes and crippling charges imposed by government, airlines have had to increase fares on frequent basis, thus reducing the number of people that can afford air travel. This is not good enough for a country angling to be the hub of aviation business in West Africa.
With regards to loans, stakeholders have also canvassed the creation of an Aviation Development Fund, ADF, where operators could secure facilities at single digit interest rate, and not the current rate of interest in commercial banks that has helped to further strangulate airlines in the country. Unfortunately, the tokenism that passed for an intervention fund suffered greatly from corrupt practices. One other area government has stifled the ability of airlines to earn sufficient revenue to operate safely and profitably is the continuous granting of multiple entries and frequencies to foreign airlines who,at the moment, do aviation business in Nigeria.
What other governments do to grow their aviation sector with a view to driving economic growth and create jobs is to discourage granting such leverages to foreign airlines operating into their territories.  This is done to protect local airlines which would assist foreign airlines distribute their passengers domestically and make money.  Today, virtually all the foreign airlines in the country, including British Airways, Lufthansa, KLM, Emirates, Ethiopian Airlines and Kenya Airways, enjoy multiple entries and frequencies in the country, with some even operating two frequencies from one airport per day.  This situation does not only engender capital flight but also sounds the death knell for domestic airlines in Nigeria.
Nigeria currently has Bilateral Air Services Agreement, BASA, with several countries, whose airlines do business here, without an enforcement of the doctrine of reciprocity. It does appear that the Aviation Ministry is content with earning royalties from the host governments of foreign airlines than work to ensure that Nigerian carriers are strong enough to reciprocate BASAs.  Such royalties are just a fraction of what would come to Nigeria, if the local airlines reciprocate the BASAs.
Now, talking about the ability of the regulatory agency to really ensure safety, against the backdrop of Associated Airlines' crash, the issue to ponder is whether the NCAA has the capacity, in terms of personnel, for effective oversight of airlines in Nigeria?
Observers insist this is doubtful and may explain the reason why planes keep falling off the skies, in spite of constant audit.

Sunday Vanguard  was told that NCAA lacks the requisite personnel to properly carry out its oversight function on airlines, particularly with regards to safety inspectors who should check aircraft before take-off – safety inspectors are very experienced aviators. Based on the preliminary report of the Accident Investigation Bureau, AIB, on the crashed Associated Airlines' plane, there are suggestions that the aircraft may not have enjoyed the benefit of thorough inspection by any NCAA inspector before take-off. Unconfirmed reports have it that the agency currently does not have more than 10 time-tested safety inspectors for the whole country, with greater percentage of the personnel concentrated in Lagos and Abuja.
Meanwhile, the Federal Government has control over 22 airports in the country, which are exclusive of those owned by states and planes fly passengers into these airports.
During the time of the immediate past director-general of the agency, Dr. Harold Demuren, he always admitted that NCAA lacked adequate number of safety inspectors and that the few available were aging.
The umbrella body of cabin crew in Nigeria, the National Cabin Crew Association, NACCA, expressed concern over this development when the Dana airliner crashed in June last year and wrote to the Aviation Minister to address the issue.
The letter, dated February 7, 2013, highlighted the paucity of safety inspectors on the part of the NCAA, and called for the agency to be fortified with more inspectors.  The group's concern stemmed from the number of its members that had died in plane crashes since 2005.  It also called for the reversal of the system where airlines bear the cost of NCAA oversight personnel who travel overseas to inspect foreign training centres and aircraft airworthiness, noting that aside from putting more burden on airlines, the practice also could lead to compromises on the part of the personnel. Besides, the agency lacks the necessary autonomy to do its work without overbearing influences from the supervising ministry.
Although the new Civil Aviation Act of 2006 gave the NCAA autonomy, as part of the requirement for Nigeria to attain U.S. Federal Aviation Administration, FAA, Category 1 certification, which the country achieved in 2010, it does appear now that that autonomy is only on paper.
This is because the director-general of the agency cannot take very critical decisions that may even affect lives, without first seeking the approval of the minister.  Unless the status-quo is reversed, Nigeria stands the risk of losing the certification, which the Federal Government fought so hard to get.
From the foregoing, it is obvious that it would be difficult to ensure air safety as long as the operating environment for local airlines in the country remain harsh.  Government needs to start addressing issues raised here rather than see aviation as one sector it must make money from to make up for shortfall in oil revenue.  Until these are done, planes may keep dropping off the skies, despite safety audits – but God forbid

Gospel Singer Mike Abdul And His Gospel Singer Wife Breaks Up

The negative fire of divorce blowing across the land, TON gathered, has caught up with popular and fast-growing Gospel singer couple – Mike Abdul and Vivien Stephen Eva.

Mike Abdul was formerly with Midnight Crew but went solo and even established a record label of his own. He calls it Spaghetti Records and it seems he has been busy eyeing a Spaghetti babe, another Gospel singer who is known as Monique.

As it stands now, Mike Abdul has separated from his wife, Vivien, and sources say he is hibernating with Monique, who was once married to a Naija Pop musician, Rasqie.

Their marriage allegedly hit the rocks about three months ago but they have been keeping sealed lips about it in the media, only that Vivien often take to the Social Media to vent her frustration over what is going on.

Below is what Vivien, the energetic Gospel singer, wrote on her facebook page:

"A lie can travel half way around the world, while the truth is still putting on its shoes, by the time the lie is wayyyyyyyyy TIRED the truth catches UP!!! I Live, I Love, I Smile, I Hurt, I Pray, I Hope, I Believe, I Try, I Cry, I Conquer but most of all.. I am unapologetically A WOMAN."

It's really sad the way marriages are packing up these days.

As reported earlier, Chocolate City has gotten the backing
of Federal High Court to stop Brymo from performing in
the function of a recording/performing artiste.
Many have asked why Choc City didn't apply this much
pressure on Jesse Jagz when the rapper not only
controversially announced his exit from the same label but
also disrespected the label execs. Sources tell us Jesse's

“It’s not Islam, we just kill people and steal”: Suspected Boko Haram member reveals the group’s motive

A man arrested on suspicion of being a member of
terrorist sect Boko Haram has said that the group has
nothing to do with Islamic teachings.
He said the group's motives were not to appear noble or
pious but that they were interested solely in looting and
murder.
The alleged terrorist, identified as Bukar Modu, also said
that the group comprised of foreign nationals from
neighbouring Chad, Niger Republic and Cameroun.

Nigerian Eye reports:
Modu, 22, according to security agents, was arrested on
October 6 in the heat of the sect's early morning attack on
Muslim worshippers in Damboa, Borno state.
He said religion has little to do with the Boko Haram
insurgency and his leaders "had never once preached Islam
to us."
He said the name of Allah was invoked only when "we are
running out of food supply in the bush. Our leaders will
assemble us and declare that we would be embarking on a
mission for God and Islam.
"I did not see any act of religion in there. We are just
killing people, stealing and suffering in the bush," he
added.
The sect has been blamed for the killings of hundreds of
civilians, mainly Muslims, in recent months.
He said of the operation that led to his capture: "We went
on a mission to attack people in Damboa on Oct. 6, a few
days to the last Sallah celebration.
"We shot many people but I was also shot in the leg
during the operation; I later became unconscious.
`My people took me away at the end of the operation but
they decided to dump me in a nearby bush because they
thought I was dead.
"I regained consciousness in the morning before I was
apprehended by security agents, who provided food for me
and took care of my bullet wounds," he said.
Modu said that he was recruited into the sect about a year
ago by his cousin who "used to keep his gun in our
compound in Maiduguri."
He added: "One day, he said that he was not comfortable
with me being outside the sect because I knew all his
secrets.
"He gave me two options: to either join the sect or be
killed. So, I had no other option than to join the sect."
Modu said that he was given an "express training" on the
handling of AK 47 rifle as soon as he joined the sect and
"We were always given orders to attack individuals
without questioning until we finally relocated to Marte in
Marte Local Government Area of Borno during the middle
of this year.
Modu said that his group comprised about 150 militants,
who took refuge in a nearby bush after the military
invasion of Marte camp.
"We were kept in the bush by our commanders;
sometimes, we survived on filthy water because we did
not have access to safe water and we barely had something
to eat."
Modu said that many of the "foot soldiers" of the Boko
Haram sect who wanted to abscond could not do so
because of the fear of being caught and executed.
Modu said that many "foot soldiers", who tried to escape
at the camp, were summarily executed.
"Any time we carry out an attack in a place, we steal food,
drugs, money and everything we need.
"It is a terrible thing to be a member of the sect but many
foot soldiers like me cannot leave for fear of being killed."
His statement on the involvement of Chadian, Nigerien
and Camerounian extremists in the Boko Haram uprising
tallies with reports from politicians and survivors of
attacks, underlining threat to the country's unity.

14 tips to stop a guy from flirting with you, and you’d be able to do it effortlessly!

Is a guy pursuing you even when you've made your
intentions clear?

It could be a good friend or just another guy who
stalks and stares at you. But sometimes, dealing with a
guy who just can't accept your rejection can be a
big pain in the backside.
If you don't like the guy and don't see any possibility
of you ever dating him, the first thing you need to do is
to stop reciprocating his flirting games *if you're still flirting
with him*.
Remember, the longer you put up with his flirting or the
longer you wait before telling him off, the harder it'll be to
get him to back off.
There's a big chance he'd assume you're just playing hard to
get because you've led him on so far!

How to stop a guy from flirting with you
Sometimes, without even realizing it, you may enjoy the
attention the guy gives you even if you don't like the idea of
dating the guy or getting into a committed relationship with
him.
But this is a decision you have to take.
Do you want him to continue pursuing you because you like
feeling wanted and desired by him, or do you want him to
stop wooing you so you can make it clear to him that you
aren't interested in anything more than just friendship with
him?
All of us like feeling desired and fancied, but there will come
a time when your pursuer may interfere with your own love
life, especially when you're dating someone else or are trying
to get some other guy's attention. And eventually, your
confused state of mind may push you into a tricky love
triangle where you want the attention of both guys, and you'd
end up the biggest loser!
He hasn't asked you out but he flirts with you!
This is always tricky, because you can't tell a guy that you
aren't interested in dating him when he hasn't even asked you
out. What do you say to a guy who hasn't even made his
intentions clear?
Many guys who think they're smooth players fit like a glove
in this category. They tease you and seduce you, and yet,
never make their intentions clear. By doing this, the guy
would entice you, rouse your curiosity, and make you think of
him often, and that would make you fall for him even before
you realize it.
When a guy doesn't tell you he likes you and yet flirts with
you, he may eventually embarrass you by flirting in front of
your friends, or worse, in front of a guy you really like!
Many guys flirt with the girl they like in front of other guys.
It's their way of trying to mark their territory even if the
territory doesn't belong to them. Publicly and outrageously
flirting with a girl in front of other potential boyfriend
materials is their way of telling other guys to back off because
he's in a better standing to date you than anyone else.

Don't lead him on
If you want to stop a guy from incessantly flirting with you all
the time, don't give him the opportunity to believe that you
enjoy his flirting by appearing interested in him, or by
reciprocating his flirty games now and then when you're
bored late at night.
Be affirmative – Don't be the sweet girl
This is the mistake that most girls make. Most girls are just
too sweet to say no, because they don't want to be rude. But
you need to remember that his behavior is stressing you out,
making you appear stupid in front of your friends, and almost
everyone may believe you're just pretending to dislike the
guy while you enjoy the flirting in secret!
And just by trying to be nice to this guy, you'd end up losing
the interest of other guys who may secretly like you, and
worse, you'd be ridiculed by all your friends for being so
spineless and two faced because you only pretend to be
annoyed by this guy.

How to stop him from flirting with you
If you know the guy, but he's not a very good friend of yours,
use these 7 tips to get him to back off. If he's a good friend
and you don't want to lose his friendship or feel awkward
around him, just use the next 7 tips.

#1 Tell him you don't like it.
If this guy drawls and drools in front of you, or if he tries to tell
you how sexy you are or just how badly he wants to take you out, just
cut him mid-sentence instead of smiling at him approvingly. Tell him
straight to his face that you find him annoying when he talks to you
that way.

#2 You're already taken.
Tell this guy that you have a boyfriend. Or each time he tries
to flirt with you, talk to him about another guy you have a crush on.
It may piss him off, but he'll get the point!

#3 He's your friend.
When he flirts with you, tell him you find it rather disturbing
because friends aren't supposed to talk that way. Tell him
that you consider him a good friend and aren't interested in anything
beyond that.

#4 Texting games.
Avoid texting him, especially late at night. It's very easy to fall
prey to flirty games when you text a guy late at night frequently. And
if he tries to text flirt with you, avoid responding to him, he'll get
the hint eventually.

#5 Jealous confrontation.
Get really close to another guy, or ignore him in front of another
guy you like. It'll piss him off, and there's a good chance he'll
confront you and ask you why you were ignoring him. And you can use
the excuse to make it clear to him that you consider him a friend, and
that he should start behaving like one!

#6 Ignore him.
If he isn't an old friend, and someone who's just trying to get close
to you only to get into your pants, just ignore him if he doesn't get
the hint. There's only so much you can try to make a guy understand
your friendly intentions.

#7 Reject him.
If you've tried it all and still find this guy pursuing you, then you
have no option but to reject him.

How to stop a guy from hitting on you when he's a friend
Is a friend falling in love with you? This is definitely tricky
grounds, because you may really like him as a person and you
may not want to lose his friendship. If a guy who's a good
friend asks you out or flirts with you, here are 7 things you
can do to get him to back off and get him back into the friend
zone.

#1 Stop the games.
Avoid giving him a sign that it's okay to flirt, by smiling or
laughing when he flirts with you. Even a small gesture like that could
be taken as an affirmation to continue flirting. Flirting games always
starts slow and works itself up to a sexual frenzy. So the earlier you
see the signs and stop reciprocating to him, the easier it'll be to
get him to stop hitting on you.

#2 Insult him.
Give him a cold stare when he tries to get touchy with you, or get
sarcastic when he says something that's more than just a friendly
compliment. It's alright to embarrass or insult him a few times, it's
the only way he'd realize you have no intentions of hooking up with
him for a fling thing.

#3 Get bored.
Each time he flirts with you, pretend like you're bored or
uninterested in talking to him. Or as soon as he says something
naughty, just look away and don't say anything for a few seconds *even
if things feel awkward*. And when you look towards him again, just
change the topic of conversation. Doing this will definitely scare him
into talking about something else!

#4 Alone time.
A guy who's a good friend of yours wouldn't dream of flirting with
you in public when there are other friends around. So don't give him
the opportunity to hit on you by spending time with him when there
aren't other friends around, especially if he's already asked you out
or if he tries to run his hands all over you when no one's around.

#5 Intimate conversations.
Both of you may be really close, but until he gets back into the
friend zone, avoid having long intimate conversations with him. He may
just be using it to get closer to you. And inevitably, you may end up
getting feelings for him too.

#6 Just ask him.
It'll put him in an awkward spot. "Are you hitting on me? / Are you
flirting with me? … If you are, I just want you to know I'm not
interested in anything more than being just friends with you."

#7 He gets persistent.
Have both of you shared some sexual intimacy at some point of time?
Have you ever hooked up with him *even if it's just once* after a
drunken night or after a lot of sexy late night texting?

You could tell him that you aren't interested in hooking up
with him, but he may still believe you won't stop him even if
he tries to get closer to you or make out with you because he
knows you secretly like it even if you tell him you don't like
it.
In such a scenario, you have no choice but to take a break
away from him for a while. You could have a serious
conversation with him and tell him that you have no interest
in getting naughty with him, and you'd appreciate it if he
could just behave like a friend instead. If he truly cares about
you and respects you, he'll definitely try hard to avoid flirting
with you.
Remember, it's easy to stop a guy from flirting with you
and hitting on you, just as long as you're clear in your
head and know what you want. And if you truly want a
guy to back off, just be firm and stand your ground. He'll
get the message soon enough!

Message Quote: God will change your situation

you and control your situation today.
Happy sunday to you all

“He needs to be accountable”: Mother raped by son wins fight to make his name public

A woman tracked down and raped by the son she adopted
out as a child has successfully fought to have him named
in public as a deterrent to him taking revenge on her.
Erin Wills, 44, has taken the unusual step of forgoing her
name suppression as a victim of a sex crime so that her
biological son, Adam Charles Pollard, can be named.
Pollard was convicted after he tracked down Wills on
Mother's Day 2010 and entered into an abusive sexual
relationship with her which ended with him being
convicted last year of incest and rape.
"I have released my name because I don't own Adam's
crimes so why should I carry the same that belongs to him
any longer," Wills told the Sunday Star-Times.
Wills said she hoped having Pollard's name made public
would help stop him offending again.
"He needs to be accountable and I hope it will be a
deterrent from future revenge on me. Physically I have
healed, but the fear of him and the memories of his abuse
remain."
Pollard's lawyers fought his name being released, and took
an appeal to the High Court after they were unsuccessful
in the District Court.
They argued that identifying him would be distressing for
his adopted family and they emphasised the unique
circumstances of a son offending against his mother.
The District Court judge ruled these factors did not justify
suppression and the High Court confirmed the ruling.
Wills earlier told the Star-Times her son used guilt over
the adoption to move in with her.
He hit her within three weeks of moving in and the first
sexual assaults occurred soon after.
She said he had videotaped the assault and threatened to
release the recording.
But the assaults continued and the relationship ended only
when Wills went to work one day and "my face was so
black and blue from the hiding I had received from Adam
that a colleague rang the police and the police came and
got me from my workplace".
The son was arrested that day and charged with assaults,
rape and incest. The jury found Pollard guilty of one
representative count of rape and several counts of incest.
The trial was traumatic and Wills frequently broke down
in the witness box, but she said: "I am a survivor and do
encourage other victims to put their trust in the police and
our justice system as I did."
