According to the reports, receiving the defectors late Tuesday in Calabar, the state interim chairman of the APC, Mr Alex Irek, said that the defectors included 1, 500 LP members from Akpabuyo Local Government Area and 1, 000 PDP members in Alankwo ward, Boki LGA.

The official stated, “I am sure everyone is seeing what is happening. There is a wind of change coming and it is coming strong. We urge our supporters to remain strong and defend the party. We also urge supporters to canvass and bring more members. APC will rule this country in 2015.”

Commenting on the issue, one of the spokespersons for the defectors in Akpabuyo, Mr Bassey Okon, said they had written to the State Harmonization Committee of the APC conveying their decision to join the party as they were tired of the uncertain future that they believe awaits them in their now former party.

He promised to work to ensure APC takes over Akpabuyo in the coming elections.
