Katy Perry, John Mayer wrote each other love letters, had 'long courtship' before making relationship public

Katy Perry and John Mayer's romance began the old
fashioned way — through love letters.
The 29-year-old "Roar" singer opened up to the Nov. 8 issue
of Entertainment Weekly about her "long courtship" with now
boyfriend John Mayer.
"I actually wrote it in an email one time, and after I wrote it I
looked — we had a long courtship before anything was
(public), just writing letters to each other — and seeing
'legendary lovers,' it sounded so nice," she said, revealing to
the mag that her track "Legendary Lovers" on new album
"Prism" was inspired by the 36-year-old "Paperdoll" singer.
"Some things float into my mind, and I process them and
(then) make songs about them."
"I never knew I could see something so clearly looking
through my third eye/ Never knew karma could be so
rewarding and bring me to your life/ Maybe this is the
beginning of something so magical tonight," read some of the
love ballad's lyrics.
Mayer and Perry officially began dating in summer 2012 with
a few breakups and makeups in between.

Katy Perry covers the Nov. 8 issue of Entertainment
Weekly and opens up about her beau John Mayer.
Perry split with husband of 14 months, Russell Brand, in
December 2011 after the British actor filed for divorce from
the pop star.
"I was pretty f--ked, yes. It hurt a lot — I got a good knock,"
Perry told UK's Sunday Times in a recent interview about her
state post-breakup.
"I was down and out. I'd lost hope, all of my confidence had
been shattered.
"My self-worth was in someone else's hands, which is never a
good idea, because it can be taken from you at any time. And
it was, and it was shattered," she said.
Despite how down she felt, the singer's relationship is
reportedly on solid ground.
"Everyone knows it's just a question of when John will
propose," and insider told Us Weekly of the Mayer.
They "realize they must be together," and they "Skype and
text all day," the source added to the mag.
