Nigerian singer Davido leads Nigerian acts on the nominations list with an impressive four nominations. He was nominated for 'Best Male', 'Best Collaboration', 'Artiste of the Year' and 'Song of the Year' categories. He's only tied in first place with four nominations by South African artistes Mafikizolo and Uhuru.
Nigerian Twin pop stars Psquare follow behind with three nominations at the 'Best Group', 'Artist of the Year', and 'Song of the Year' categories.
The Nigerian Female acts are represented by Tiwa Savage and Chidinma who will battle each other in the 'Best Female' category.
Nigerian author Chimamanda Adiche and Nollywood actress Omotola Jalade Ekeinde are nominated in the non-music 'Personality of the Year' category.
Other nominated Nigerian artistes include Wizkid, 2face, Olamide, Phyno, Dr. Sid, May D, Kcee, Burna Boy, Clarence Peters, Ice Prince, Flavour and Don Jazzy.
The prestigious MTV Africa Music Awards (MAMA) nominations were revealed at a glittering nominations party at The Sands, Johannesburg, South Africa by MTV Base VJs Nomuzi Mabena and Sizwe Dhlomo, alongside Alex Okosi, Senior Vice President & Managing Director, Viacom International Media Networks (VIMN) Africa. The event was well attended by artistes, nominees and celebrities including AKA, Beatenberg, DJ Clock, Burna Boy, Mafikizolo, Professor, Oskido and Yuri Da Cunha.
'We congratulate all the nominees for the 2014 MTV Africa Music Awards. This year, the MAMA offers a stunning platform for African artistes, it also celebrates the young personalities, leaders and creatives who are making a positive impact on the continent,' Alex Okosi said at the nominations party.
Voting for the MTV Africa Music Awards opens at www.mtvbase.com from Wednesday, April 16 until midnight of Wednesday, June 4, 2014.
