Oscar Nominee Chiwetel Ejiofor has revealed they way the Nigerian Civil war affected his childhood.
The British-Nigerian actor, during the premiere of Half of a Yellow Sun movie in Nigeria said: "The Biafra war was a seminal part of my upbringing. In fact, I'll say the Biafra war was the reason I was born in London and not Nigeria. It was as a result of the war that my parents left Nigeria.
It was something I remember being talked about in my household. Years later, I spoke to my grandfather about my mother's side.
He also revealed that his part in the movie gave him an insight on how hard the citizens of that time suffered during the war.
He revealed that one of the reasons the movie caught his interest was because of his family ties to the Nation.
Chiwetel stars as Odenigbo in Half of a Yellow Sun movie. The book was written by Nigeria's own Chimamanda Ngozi Adiechie's and is set during the civil war.
The movie is directed by UK-based playwright, Biyi Bandele and was shot in Tinapa Calabar, with just a budget of N10 million.
