Five-time Grammy Award nominee, Akon, has joined the Peace One Day campaign to increase grassroots effort for peace and stability in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Great Lakes region and around the world.
'I felt extremely honoured and yet humbled when asked to lend my voice to the resounding cry for peace. I challenge myself and others to think contemplatively and ask: who will I make peace with on Sunday, September 21, 2014,' he told DSTV.com
The 'Hold my hand' singer is expected to headline a concert in Goma, DRC, on this year's Peace One Day date. The performance will enjoy multi-platform delivery in form of digital, mobile, radio and television broadcasts. Unifying the people of the DRC and Great Lakes on Peace Day is the primary objective of Peace One Day's campaign in the region.
The goal of the Peace One Day project in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and throughout the Great Lakes Region (GLR) is to encourage all parties to stand together in the name of peace on September 21, 2014.
'Starting this year we aim to raise the level of awareness of, and respect for Peace Day, so as to generate a significant reduction of violence across the country on the day by 2016,' organisers say.
