The former governor of Ekiti State, Engineer Segun Oni is in a fix over the present political logjam in the state and the emergence of Mr Ayo Fayose as the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
Both Oni and Fayose are not in the same political family within the PDP. Oni has his own strong loyalists popularly referred to as Irewolede Group.
Oni was said to have met with some prominent members of Irewolede Group at his Ifaki-Ekiti country home recently where the group reviewed the political activities in the state
At the meeting, which was said to have been attended by Chief Mrs Biodun Olujimi, Chief Bisi Kolawole and Dipo Anisulowo, they were said to be categorical that they would not decamp to the All Progressive Congress, APC.
One of the leaders at the meeting was quoted as saying that "we were very categorical during the meeting. We told our leader that we are not going to join APC, we will remain and win for our party."
The leader said "the PDP leaders who met at Oni's house in Ifaki resolved to stay in the PDP. We are not going anywhere and we are going to work for the party and those saying we are joining the APC are only hoping against hope."
The meeting came against the backdrop of insinuations that some leaders of the PDP were planning to dump the party following the emergence of Fayose as the party's candidate for the June 21 election.
But one of the aspirants Prince Dayo Adeyeye has agreed to work with Fayose, while Anisulowo has been tipped to head the PDP campaign team for the election.
While Senator Ayo Arise is heading a committee to reconcile those who felt aggrieved with the outcome of the PDP primary, the party is making every effort to settle all differences among party leaders and approach the election as a united front.
