The remains of former ASUU president, Prof.
Festus Iyayi, who died in an auto crash on Lokoja-Abuja
road, were on Wednesday moved from Lokoja to Benin by
his relations.
The Chief Medical Director, Kogi State Specialist Hospital,
Lokoja, Dr. Paul Amodu, told newsmen that the
late professor's younger brother, led other relations to collect
the corpse at about 12 noon.
He said that the team also comprised officials from the
University of Benin, saying that the corpse was conveyed in
an ambulance of the Federal University, Lokoja.
Amodu said that the late Iyayi was brought in dead to the
hospital few minutes after noon on Tuesday.
He said that the National Welfare Officer of ASUU, Dr Ngozi
ilo and Dr Anthoni Emina, were also brought to the hospital
with various degrees of injuries and fracture.
The medical director said that the possible cause of late
Iyayi's death might be a left rib injury which, he said.
penetrated into his heart.
He also talked of shock as the late professor was believed to
be hypertensive and had some drugs found on him as at the
time of the crash.
Amodu said that both Ilo and Emina had also been evacuated
from the Specialist Hospital in Lokoja to other hospitals
outside the state by their relations.
He explained that all the victims were treated free of charge as
directed by Gov. Idris Wada of Kogi.
Meanwhile, FRSC state Sector Command, Mr Olakunle
Motajo, told newsmen that full investigation into the remote
and immediate cause of the accident had begun.
He said that it was too early to apportion blame on any of the
two drivers of the vehicles involved, saying that no arrest had
been made so far.
Late Prof. Iyayi, along with other members of ASUU, were
on their way to Kano to attend the NEC meeting of the union
when their bus and a car on Gov. Wada Idris motorcade
