Women Brutality: Odumakin leads protest to Lagos Assembly

Reacting to the dehumanization of two women and Lagos
residents in Ejigbo area, where the victims were brutally
beaten, tortured with stick and pepper, recorded on video and
uploaded on the internet with virile viewership, The President,
Women for Change Initiative, Dr. Joe Oke-Odumakin, today,
led other women advocates on a protest march to the Lagos
State House of Assembly demanding for justice on behalf of
the victims.

Speaking at the rally ground, Odumakin urged the law makers
to use their good office in setting an inquiry into the incident
and also seek that the Chairman of the Ejigbo, Local
Government Community Development Area, Mr. Kehinde
Bamigbetan be compelled to share his knowledge of the crime
and what he has done in tracking down perpetrators.

"Council Chairman of Ejigbo Local Government, Mr.
Kehinde Bamigbetan admitted the incident happened in his
council area but till date nothing is done. What we don't even
know now is whether the victims survived the torture or not in
that brutal incident which happened in February 2013.

We strongly believe that there is redemptive value for Lagos
State in fishing out these criminals for punishment so that the
state is not seen as a haven for atrocious human rights abuses,
where barbaric and acts are tolerated by government officials." She explained

Assuring the agitated group, The Deputy Speaker, Lagos State
House of Assembly, Hon. Kolawole Taiwo who received
them replied saying a special hearing committee will be set up
to look into the details of the incidence.

He assure the public that a proper investigation hearing will
be given to the case, saying the house will bring market
women leaders in the area, summon the Chairman of Ejigbo
LCDA and others to gather information that guide the
apprehension of the culprits.
