Julius Agwu demands N100m from Etisalat for loss of business
Julius Agwu has accused telecoms company Etisalat of
allegedly blocking his mobile telephone line thereby
resulting to loss of business. The popular comedian is
demanding a whooping sum of N100m and has given the
company seven days before he slams them with a law suit.
Speaking through his lawyer Festus Keyamo, Julius
narrates that on October 17, 2013 he noticed mobile
number 08189555555, which he uses as his business line
had been barred.
'He tried severally to make calls from the aforestated GSM
line but same could not connect. Not only could he not
make calls, he also could not receive calls on the said GSM
line. This continued for some days until he got a message
that his line had been blocked by the network provider',
Keyamo says.
Agwu is said to have visited the company's Abuja office at
Hilton to report the matter and was attended to by one Miss
Joan. The lady supposedly informed him that somebody
had 'swapped his line'.
Keyamo says Agwu's line was later restored although the
credit balance was never returned. 'He was however
surprised to find out that his line was blocked again after he
left your said Abuja office'.
'Once again our client visited your office at the local wing
of the Murtala Mohammed International Airport Ikeja,
Lagos to lodge a complaint, but painfully, nothing was
done about it'.
And even after meeting with Mobolaji Okusaga, MD, The
Quadrant Company (the media agents/managers for
Etisalat Nigeria), his line was not restored.
'As you are aware, our client as one of the most sought
after Nigerian entertainers needs his phone line to be easily
accessible to keep his business going. It therefore goes
without saying that our client has lost some business
opportunities as a result of your actions', Keyamo says,
explaining the gravity of the situation.
Our sources at The Quadrant Company tell us officials have
been trying to contain the matter so as not to reach the
public. With Keyamo's public statement, things have now
gone downhill.
The company is yet to respond to our enquires over the
matter.

Boko Haram: Kogi State varsity, ASUU disown arrested lecturer
LOKOJA — Following the arrest of Dr. Mohammed Nazeef
Yusuf, a lecturer at Kogi State University, Ayingba by the
Department of State Service, DSS over alleged involvement
with the Boko Haram sect, the university authority has
dissociated the institution from the activities of the lecturer
and the alleged plan to carry out terrorists attacks in the state.
Also, the Kogi State University Chapter of the Academic Staff
Union of Universities declared that the suspect was never an
active member of the union.
ASUU Chairman in the university, Dr. Sylvester Ukwuteno
said contrary to report from the other suspects that Dr Yusuf
was a strong member of the organization, the suspect has
never been an active member of ASUU.
According to him, "the only link between him (Dr. Nazeef
Yusuf) and the association was because ASUU's due is
deducted at source from lecturers' salaries. And he, like
everyone else has his dues deducted to make him an automatic
member. But he's not a strong member as it has been widely
claimed. I cannot remember the last time he attended any of
our meetings".
Also, the institution in a statement signed by the Vice
Chancellor of the University, Prof. Hassan Isah admitted that
though the suspect, Dr. Mohammed Nazeef Yusuf who was
recently paraded by Security agent is a lecturer in the
institution the governing council and the management of the
school do not know anything about him beyond his duty as a
lecturer
"The Governing council and the management therefore
condemned and dissociated themselves from all criminality
and terrorism in whatever shape or form, where ever and
whenever it exist."
The VC noted that it became imperative to respond to the
situation as the alleged involvement of the lecturer has elicited
a lot of enquiries from friends, well- wishers, students,
stakeholders and sister institutions.
"In view of the negative interpretation and implication for our
hard-earned reputation, and the damaging impression on
unsuspected members of the public, the institution dissociates
itself from all criminal and criminal activities including those
of the dreaded Boko Haram sect."
He assured that security has been beefed up in the school with
enough surveillance to curtail any attack from gunmen "In the
meantime, the governing council and management of the
institution have strengthened security and increase
surveillance on campus with the view to stamp out all
criminals and criminalities, including Boko Haram activities.
We wish to assure the general public, particularly all our
students, their parents and guardians, that the campus is safe
and there is no threat whatsoever to human lives and property.
"Members of the university community are advised to go
about their normal life as the university has adequate security
measures to deal with all criminals and criminal activities on
campus whenever and where ever they are detected", he said.

A-Ibom women vow to go naked over land acquisition by govt
UYO — Women of Enniong Offot, Offot clan in Uyo, Akwa
Ibom State, have threatened to protest naked on the streets and
cry on to the gods of the land, should government refuse their
plea, and insist on confiscating their land.
The women, who joined the youths, took to streets, carrying
placards, following the crisis brewing between Akwa Ibom
State Government and the people of Urua Ntia village, in
Eniong Offot community in Uyo Local Government Area of
the state, over the alleged encroachment of community land
by the state government.
The villagers alleged fraudulent action by some government
officials attached to the Ministry of Lands and Town
Planning.
They carried placards with various inscriptions and appealed
to the state government to come to their aid by ensuring that
the remaining parcels of land meant for them were not taken
away.
According to them, ministry officials are fond of moving in
and out of their community to allot and sell parcels of land to
people, claiming that land in Eniong had been taken over by
the state government.
Spokesman for the community, Mr Patrick Edet, warned the
ministry officials to stop trespassing on their land as the land's
right of occupancy was not revoked in year 2000 as claimed
by Ministry of Lands recently in a report published in
newspapers.
The state government had, last week, described as fraudulent
and criminal, the re-occupation of land by former owners after
collecting compensation.
Commissioner for Lands and Town Planning, Obong Eno
Akpan, said the expiration of the tenure of the government
that acquired and paid compensation for the land did not mean
the end of government

ASUU STRIKE: ASUU Says Jonathan Is A Joker, Insists Threat Can't End Strike
The way this strike issues is going,im sure by march
2014,student will still be at home.
The Goodluck Jonathan administration has given the
Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, one week
ultimatum to call off the ongoing strike or risk mass sack. The
directive was given on Thursday on behalf of the government,
in Abuja, by the acting Minister of Education, Nyesom Wike.
But in a swift reaction, ASUU rubbished the threat by the
Jonathan Government to sack any lecturer who fails to report
back to school on December 4, 2013. While condemning the
threat, ASUU said:
"It is a pity if the federal government is not willing to
perfect the resolutions reached with union. This is why we
find it difficult to trust our leaders by their words. How can
someone be threatening to sack lecturers when universities are
already short-staffed by almost 60,000? We are not in Military
era. The Military tried it and failed. This one will fail again."
The union added that the threat latest will not only fail but
worsen the situation and "make the strike linger more than
necessary."
With this threat, ASUU said it is now very clear that the
Federal government was not ready to implement any of the
resolutions it reached with the union.

Photos: Sharia Police Smash 240,000 Bottles Of Beer In Kano!
In their latest move to put a stop to behaviour deemed
'immoral', the Police enforcing Islamic law in Kano state on
Wednesday, destroyed 240,000 bottles
of beer they had confiscated from trucks coming into the city.
According to AFP, the Sharia law enforcers called Hisbah,
launched sweeping crackdowns in Kano since September,
following a state government directive to cleanse the
commercial state of "immoral" practices.
So, on Wednesday, a large bulldozer smashed the confiscated
bottles to shouts of "Allahu Ahkbar" (God is great) from
supporters outside the Hisbah headquarters in Kano.
Kegs containing more than 8,000 litres of a local alcoholic
brew called burukutu and 320,000 cigarettes were also
destroyed.
Kano's Hisbah chief, Aminu Daurawa, at the bottle- breaking
ceremony, said he had the ardent hope this will bring an end
to the consumption of such prohibited substances. We hope
this measure will help restore the tarnished image of Kano,"
said Daurawa.
The 9,000-strong moral police force works alongside the
civilian police but also has other duties, including community
development work and dispute resolution.
Alcohol is typically easy to find in Kano, including at hotels
and bars in neighbourhoods like Sabon Gari, inhabited by the
city's sizeable Christian minority.
But the Hisbah boss vowed that this was set to change.
"We hereby send warning to unrepentant offenders that
Hisbah personnel will soon embark on an
operation into every nook and cranny of the state to put an
end to the sale and consumption of alcohol and all other
intoxicants," Daurawa said.

Check Out D’Banj, Don Jazzy & Wale Working Together In The Studio
I told you guys that D'Banj has accepted to work with his
former producer, Don Jazzy, again. This photo above is a
clear confirmation of that story. This is the
first time in over 20 months that Don Jazzy and D'banj will
be seen in the studio together, doing what they know how to
do best – Music.
Nigerian-born US based rapper, Wale Folarin who is in the
country for the first time, also joined the duo for what is now
been described as a "Heavy Collabo!"
