Actor Emeka Ike Gets Ejected

This is not the best of times for ace actor and school
proprietor, the very popular Emeka Ike known for so many
things and love for scandal.

The very well known actor turned educationist's school
located at 1, Raji Olamideji Crescent, Magodo beside PMS filling station on CMD road was shut down or better still taken possession by the court last week Friday, January 24, 2014 after a protracted court case that lasted all of 5 years.

Apparently from the little information we were able to gather,
Emeka had had a running battle with the owners of the property all of these years until he lost the case very recently.

For the past 5 years that the case had been on going, the well
known actor refused to pay a dime to the property owners.
The school St. Nicholas College, a secondary school was established a few years ago, 2008 to be more precise by the ace actor. According to the gist then, he was supposed to have invested about N200 million in the making the school happen at the property that they have now been sent packing from.

All through the years of the school existence Emeka, his wife and the school had been engaged in one unconfirmed allegation after the other.

Some of the allegations are as follows, none payment of
salaries as at when due to the staff & teachers; he apparently
used to owe many of those working for him for upwards of 6 months at a time.

That's not all, he was also alleged to prefer employing
unqualified & non professional teachers in a school, where
parents were paying exorbitant school fees thinking they were
getting the best of education and more.

So bad was the situation at the school at a point, that many
parts of building were said to have been in a state of disrepair.

At a point it was alleged that only 13 students remained in the
school, as others had been withdrawn by their parents.

Everything finally came to a head last week, when court bailiffs acting under instructions took possession of the school.

Just before sealing it, they were reported to have carted away
a few of the valuables that were still in the school, like the
school bus, a few air-conditioners and some furniture.

As we speak, some of the remaining things that the bailiffs
couldn't cart away are all still outside the school premises
littering the frontage.

7 Healthy and Delicious Bedtime Snacks

Do you think eating before bedtime packs on the pounds? I'm
sure you and your cravings will be happy to know that there
are some yummy and healthy bedtime snacks that won't
wreck a whole day of healthy eating. These snacks will help
satisfy your cravings without leaving you feeling stuffed,
uncomfortable, and lethargic when it's time to hit the sack.
Moreover, they can help you fall asleep faster and get a deep
and restful sleep. So, if you are hungry late at night, instead of
reaching for high fat snacks or sweets that will only derail
your healthy diet, opt for one of these healthy and delightfully
delicious bedtime snacks. You won't regret eating, I promise!

1. Greek yogurt with frozen berries

Greek yogurt with frozen berries is an incredible bedtime
snack, which provides the ideal sweet taste that your body is
craving. It contains a healthy dose of protein and many
vitamins and minerals that help fight off diseases. While fresh
fruits are great and healthy, frozen fruits provide that cold, ice
cream feel. You can add to your Greek yogurt blueberries,
strawberries, raspberries, or blackberries and enjoy you
healthy bedtime snack.

2. Dairy-free soft serve

Dairy-free soft serve is one of my favorite bedtime snacks. It
tastes just like tasty ice cream but without all of those
unwanted calories, fat, and added sugar. Take one frozen
banana, place it in a blender or food processor and blend
about 5 minutes (or until a creamy and thick consistency has
been reached). You can also add frozen blueberries,
strawberries, peanut butter or dark chocolate. Yum!

3. Green smoothie

I love starting my day with green smoothies, but who says
that we can't drink a green smoothie before hitting the sack?
When I make a green smoothie late at night, I usually make it
simpler than my morning smoothie. I add strawberries,
almond milk, bananas, spinach, and a bit of almond butter to
my smoothie. This is a healthy snack that you can enjoy any
time of the day.

4. Nuts and fruit

Among the healthiest bedtime snacks to reach for is a handful
of nuts and a piece of fruit. Several great ideas include 6
walnut halves and an orange, 12 unsalted almonds and apple
slices, and a tablespoon of peanut butter and a banana. Nuts
and fruit are both rich in fiber that will allow you to fall
asleep feeling satisfied but still feel hungry for the breakfast in
the morning. What I like the most about this bedtime snack is
that it contains healthy fat that helps fall asleep faster and
sleep better.

5. Whole-grain cereal with almond milk and berries

Sometimes a small bowl of whole-grain cereal with almond
milk and some berries is just what the doctor ordered. I
believe cereal is a comfort food and I don't understand those
people who hate it. It's better to choose a whole-grain cereal
because it's low in sugar and high in fiber. Top your cereal
with your favorite berries, and add unsweetened almond milk,
of course, if you like it (I know many people don't like
almond milk.) This healthy snack will help satisfy your
cravings for just a few hundred calories.

6. Whole-grain crackers with hummus

One of the best ways to curb your craving before going to bed
is by having a handful of whole-grain crackers with hummus.
These foods are both rich in fiber, minerals and vitamins, and
they are healthy and amazingly delicious. Before eating
crackers, don't forget to read the serving size on the box so
that you don't end up eating too many of them.

7. Whole-grain bread with peanut butter

A warm peanut butter sandwich is one of my favorite bedtime
snacks. I like to have it with a glass of unsweetened almond
milk. Just slice a piece of whole-grain bread in half, then
spread one side with peanut butter or any other nut butter you
like, put the other half on top. Now place your sandwich into
a Panini press for a few minutes and enjoy your healthy
bedtime snack!

Sometimes it's easier to reach for unhealthy food because we
are too tired to make something healthy after a long, hard day
at work. These bedtime snacks are quick and easy to make
and they are very healthy. What are your favorite bedtime
snacks? I'd love to hear your ideas!

Pebble's smartwatch app store for iOS and Android arrives Monday

Pebble shipped its new all-metal "Steel" smartwatch earlier this week, and now reveals that app store updates for its iOS and Android companion software will roll out on Monday. Until now, wearers have had to hunt through a myriad of app developers and third- party sites to download new watchfaces or apps. Once the apps (and older Pebble devices) get updated and paired wirelessly over Bluetooth, you'll only need a Pebble account and two clicks to load new software from a phone or tablet. Since the watch itself can only have up to eight apps loaded at any given time, easily managing the thousands of choices available is an important new feature. We took a long look at the store and its apps (including software from ESPN, GoPro and Foursquare) in our review of the Pebble Steel, owners should keep an eye on their mobile devices Monday for access.

Apple's iWatch and iOS 8 are reportedly fitness-focused

We still don't know exactly what Apple's long-rumored smart watch is, or what it's called -- yes, iWatch is probably right -- but a report today from 9to5Mac posits a whole heap of new information. First, the wearable works in concert with "Healthbook," a new internal app intended to track various fitness (steps, distance, etc.) and health metrics (blood pressure, heart rate, etc.).

Second, it looks like Healthbook -- at least currently -- is a crucial part of iOS 8, and when paired with iWatch (or whatever it's called) the two are "able to monitor several other pieces of health and fitness data." It's unclear exactly what that means. Like it's name, Healthbook is apparently pretty similar to Passbook, and you'll be able to swipe through various "cards" with health information.

Of course, none of this should come as a tremendous shock (though it's all still firmly in the rumor bin) -- word of Apple working on a wearable has been floating for quite some time, and it's past the point of coincidence. Between Apple hiring wearable electronics engineers (notable ones!), meeting with FDA regulators about "mobile medical applications," and the
competition already staking a firm claim in the nascent smart watch market, no one following the tech news beast should be shocked. That's to say nothing of the dedicated chip inside Apple's latest iPhone (seen above). Regardless, with nothing officially announced just yet, we've reached out to Apple for more.

APGA Chieftain Escapes Fatal Road Crash

Former Anambra factional Chairman of the All Progressives
Grand Alliance (APGA), Chief Egwuoyibo Okoye, on Friday
night escaped death following a fatal road crash.

Okoye was involved in the accident with his Personal
Assistant, Mr Nelson Amechi, which occurred at the Enugu-
Anambra border along the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway.

The vehicles involved in the head-on collision were a truck
laden with scraps bearing registration number XA 199 DMA,
heading to Onitsha and a Peugeot 406 with registration
number AN 21B-AN belonging to Okoye.

The chieftain was said to be in stable condition while the second occupant (Amechi) who drove the vehicle was
receiving treatment for injury sustained in an undisclosed
hospital.

The Unit Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC),
Mr Blaise Ezeani, who confirmed the accident, told the News
Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Awka that both vehicles were in
the corps' office.

Ezeani described the accident as serious, pointing out that it
took God's intervention for occupants to escape with just
injuries.

He attributed the cause of the crash to over speeding and
urged road users to stick to speed limits, especially on roads
under construction.

He, however, pointed out that the owners of the truck were
still at large.

"There was a crash involving a truck and a Peugeot car, they
are in our premises and I can confirm to you that the car is
seriously damaged as a result of the impact.

"Road users should shun over speeding and you know there is
work going on, so it is a single lane road.

"Truck drivers should endeavour to rest after a distance because fatigue can cause some of these crashes, and because
their vehicles are heavy they should be doing not more than
80k/h so that they can exercise more control over their
vehicles," Ezeala advised. (NAN)

Photos: Man Burns Wife, Baby To Death For Not Having A Son

A 22-year-old mother has been burned to death along with
her infant daughter by her husband and in-laws for failing
to pay dowry.

The police investigating the case said the victim Annu Devi was set ablaze while she was breastfeeding her baby.
Devi's husband, Gunjan Masat, who has been arrested was said to have poured fuel on her and her baby daughter before setting them alight.

According to Raghuni Rana, Devi's father, the couple were happily married for more than a year, but problems started after Ms Devi gave birth to a baby girl.

Devi's mother-in-law holds the body of her grand-daughter who was also burned to death in the attack Mr Rana told police: 'They wanted a son, but didn't realize that giving birth to a girl was not Devi's fault.

'They started harassing and torturing her till things reached this pass when they decided to end her life.'

Mr Rana added: 'Now they were demanding a TV set and a motorcycle. I had already given them two bighas (1.6 acres) of land in dowry.'

To pass off her murder as an accident, the accused made the badly burned Devi sit beside a fireplace and placed a water container over it.

Early in the morning on January 30, a local spotted Ms Devi and her daughter lying in a courtyard at the house, still alive despite suffering 90 per cent burns.

The mother-daughter duo were rushed to the nearest hospital but the doctors declared them dead on arrival.

Devi's brother-in-law, who has also been accused in the police complaint, is still at large.

Calling it a heinous crime, Superintendent of Police, Nirmal Kumar Mishra, said: 'All the accused will be arrested and prosecuted according to the law.'

Dowry is one of the reasons why boys are preferred over girls in Indian culture. Thousands of girls are aborted every year after ultrasound scans reveal the sex of the foetus.

Masat allegedly set Devi alight in the courtyard of this house, before allegedly placing her still-living body next to a fireplace to make it look like an accident Gunjan Masat has been arrested, while his father Mahendra Basat (pictured), was interrogated. His other son has also been named on the police complaint but is on the run

A woman is killed over dowry 'every hour' in India, according to the data released by the country's National Crime Records Bureau.

'8,233 young women, many of them new brides, were killed in so-called 'dowry deaths' in 2012,' the report said last year.

Domestic violence largely motivated by dowry demands is very common in the area, but killing of Ms Devi along with her baby girl has shocked the locals

Veteran actor Jide Kosoko who recently clocked 60years is a man who has had a tough time, coming in terms with the lose
of his two wives within a year and also fighting off critics.
His family and friends celebrated his birthday party on a high note, and they are still coming together on the march 30 for
another celebration when he will be launching his foundation, Jide Kosoko and book 'Warriors lamentation', if there is
something he loves it is been a polygamist, it is not a new thing with most men but as an actor we only wonder how he copes Jide narrates: Some people are born with silver spoon, they have everything at their beck and call. It is only God that can stamp whatever you do. There are things that will happen between a husband and his wife that will be worse than what is happening in a polygamous setting. If I have to be frank with you, it is better to stay out of polygamy. I am not regretting it, anyway. I am lucky with the kind of
wives I have.
I have nothing to regret. I have seen a man with problems despite the fact that he has just one wife. I don't regret being a
polygamist at all.

Eldership starts from 60. With the nature of our job, we get involved in so many things. From 60, whatever happens to a
person, people will say that God has tried for him. The most important thing is the gift of life and good health. A lot of people have gone, I thank God for the gift of life.

5 SIGNS YOUR RELATIONSHIP IS ENDING

Once the honeymoon period is over most relationships
fall into a comfortable pattern that might be short on
the fireworks of the first year, but provides a stability
and intimacy that feels great.
However, if that comfortable groove has started to feel
more like an apathetic rut it might be time to take a
long, hard look at your relationship and see if it's likely
to stand the test of time. Here are five ways to tell if
your relationship is on the rocks…

1. You don't communicate

If you come home from work, stick the telly on and don't
speak to each other beyond the occasional "Pass the
crisps", you're in trouble. Communication is the key to
every relationship and without it minor issues can flare up
into fights and you'll both end up feeling unloved and
indifferent. If you don't want to talk to each other about
how your day was or chat and laugh together anymore, it's
a clear sign that you're losing interest.

2. You rarely have sex

Once the initial excitement of a new relationship has worn
off you will naturally have a bit less sex, but a strong
desire for your partner and regular sex make for a healthy,
functioning relationship. It may just be that your sex life
has got a little bit routine and injecting some zest with a
little bit of experimentation will put things back on an even
keel, but if you still aren't feeling it, it's probably time to
wave goodbye.

3. You imagine life without your partner

If you find yourself constantly having daydreams that fail
to feature your partner it's time to ask yourself some
questions. You might long for a home free of their clutter
and chat, or fantasise about a date with that hot new
colleague, or wish you could just take a holiday alone:
whatever it is, you've started to emotionally detach.

4. You pick fights

If you find your partner irritating and can't resist
constantly picking them up on their habits then the writing
is on the wall. Relationships require empathy, compassion
and compromise to keep going, so if you've jacked all that
in in favour of snapping and bickering it's time to get out
of there.

5. You forget about the little things

Whilst big gestures are thrilling and romantic they don't
help maintain a relationship on a day-to-day level. A
recent study funded by the Economic Science and
Research Council found that the simple things – such as
bringing your partner a cup of tea in bed – nurture a
relationship much more than grand romantic gestures. If
you've forgotten about those little things and rarely think
to do anything for your partner, from offering them a
cuppa to giving them a cuddle, then it's time to forget
about the whole thing and move on.

"I bought cars for all six of my children" - Actor Pete Edochie

The veteran actor said to motivate each of his six children, he
bought them all cars upon graduation from the university.
"I wanted to motivate them and keep them away from peer
pressure. Parents must be able to motivate their children
and set target for them. The minimum target for each of
them was to graduate from higher institution; their reward
upon graduation is a car. And where I come from, it is
important to keep one's word; I bought the car for each of
them. Yul who is over 30 (pictured above) is the last born
and he got his too." Pete Edochie tells The Nollywood
Reporter

The celebrated actor who has been married for over 45 years
said his marriage is about the longest in the industry and he
never thought of taking a new wife.

"I married early and have remained married since then.
What am I looking for a second wife for? I married a
woman who gave me six children, what could I possibly
be looking for in another woman that I didn't get from this
woman? There is no reason for it"

EXCLUSIVE: Presidency Pressures Senate To Halt Probe Of Missing N8 Trillion Oil Funds

The Nigerian Senate has come under intense pressure from the presidency, the petroleum ministry and the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation [NNPC] to abandon a planned investigation into the disappearance of a staggering $48.9 billion (about N8 trillion) crude oil money, senators have told Premium Times.

A Senate investigative hearing into the scandal, regarded as one of Nigeria's biggest fraud, billed to commence Thursday, was rescheduled for next Tuesday.

According to senators, the move was part of efforts by the upper chamber of parliament to deflect a growing pressure from multiple government offices, including the presidency, demanding that the probe be suspended.

Lawmakers said the government fears its defiant Central Bank Governor, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, whose leaked letter to President Goodluck Jonathan first exposed the huge fraud, might provide even far more damaging details at a public hearing.

A senator familiar with the matter said,

"The government is suspicious that Sanusi might embarrass President Jonathan and the administration at the hearing. So, the presidency and the petroleum ministry is pressuring us not to hold the hearing. But we have decided to go ahead. The best concession we made was to shift the hearing forward from Thursday to Tuesday. We can't cancel it because Nigerians will ask questions."

In his memo to the President in September 2013, Mr. Sanusi detailed how state-run oil firm, the NNPC, systematically sliced 76 percent of crude oil proceeds between 2012 and 2013. Many Nigerians fear the money may have been stolen by government officials, but the administration insists not a kobo is missing.

Yet, it has failed to fully account for the funds which is the equivalent of Nigeria's national budget for two years.

The Nigeria Governors' Forum has called for extensive investigation, saying claims by the NNPC were unconvincing, and that it was suspicious the missing funds were in private pockets.

But the NNPC has since denied the CBN claims, accusing Mr. Sanusi of being ill-informed of the workings of the oil and gas sector. The corporation claimed the purported missing funds were received by other agencies of government, including the Federal Inland Revenue Service, FIRS, and the Department of Petroleum Resources, DPR.

At an early meeting with the Senate in December, Finance Minister, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, told lawmakers the missing sum had been "reconciled" and that respective agencies - including Mr. Sanusi's CBN - had realized that the outstanding figure was a "mere $10.8 billion".

Mr. Sanusi rejected that figure, and pegged the outstanding sum at $12 billion. Still, the finance minister claimed the outstanding $10.8 billion was not "missing" as the process of "reconciling" the accounts continued. But in a surprising twist, the NNPC, offering no new proofs, now claims the outstanding $10.8 billion was spent on fuel subsidy and maintenance of oil pipelines.

The Senate committee on finance, which is conducting the probe, said Friday it has received submissions from some agencies of government ahead of the commencement of the public hearing. Its chairman, Ahmed Makarfi, however denied facing any pressures.

Neither the presidency nor the CBN spokespersons responded to our inquiries on the matter on Friday.

Man to die by hanging for stabbing wife to death

The Court of Appeal, Lagos Division, has upheld the death sentence handed a man, Edet Okon, who was found guilty of the offence of murder by a Lagos State High Court and was sentenced to death by hanging, for stabbing his wife to death
with a spoon at night.

A three-man panel of the Court of Appeal led by Justice Joseph Ikyegh ordered that Okon be hanged for killing his wife.

The appellant had appealed the judgement, arguing that the lower court erred in law when it dismissed his plea of insanity.
But in a unanimous judgement, the Court of Appeal held that Appeal No. CA/ L/553/10 lacked merit and dismissed it.

Justice Ikyegh, who delivered the leading judgement, said Mrs. Okon's blood was crying for vengeance and her killer
husband should "reap what he has sown; blood for blood."

Okon had claimed at the lower court that he was insane at the time he stabbed his wife to death and two witnesses called by
the defence had given evidence that there were cases of insanity in the family of the appellant.

However the court rejected the evidence adduced in support of Okon's claim, convicted him of murder and ordered that
he should die by hanging.

Aggrieved, Okon took his defence of insanity to the Court of Appeal, urging it to upturn the judgement of the lower
court.

But in their judgement, the Appeal Court justices said the High Court was right in rejecting the plea of insanity.

The court further held that the burden of proving insanity rested on the appellant.
The appellant, the court added, failed to discharge the burden on him to prove that he was insane at the time of committing
the offence.

4 Phrases That'll Tell You He's Not Looking for a Serious Relationship

The bad boy tamed by the right girl has long been a cliché in
movies and on TV. From Joey from Friends to Barney in How I Met Your Mother, the promiscuous man who prefers
commitment-free hook-ups is shown to be perfectly willing to
change his philandering ways once he realizes how unfulfilled he is. In reality, there are plenty of men out there who simply don't want a serious relationship or don't want one with you.
If you're looking for a serious relationship, it's important to be
able to tell the difference between a relationship with potential, and one that's unlikely to develop into anything more. Here are four tell-tale phrases that suggest he won't be changing his ways any time soon.

1. "I think it's too soon for you to meet my family"

If a guy is serious about you, he'll want you to meet his family as soon as possible. He might be nervous about the meeting, because he wants it to go well, but he won't fob you off with excuses any time you suggest seeing them.

2. "I don't think you'd like my friends"

If it seems that he really doesn't want you to meet his friends, it suggests that they either don't know you exist, or that he has given them a very different impression of what kind of relationship you have. Either way, it's not a good sign for the future of your relationship.

3. "I'm not looking for anything serious"

Perhaps the old cliché of bad boy tamed is to blame, but many
women don't believe what they hear when a man says he's not
looking for a serious relationship. They make the classic mistake of thinking that things will change when he realizes just how much they mean to him, and hanging on in the hope that he will eventually fall head-over-heels in love.
If you met using online dating, it should be clear whether he is
after something serious or not. Most men won't lie about what
they are looking for. So if he says "I'm not looking for anything serious" he means just that. Take it as a clear sign and don't waste any more time with him.
If you feel you are attracting the wrong type of man, you could try a site such as eHarmony who match people according to their values and beliefs. This way, you can be sure from the outset that you're both looking for the same things.

4. "Let's just be spontaneous"

While being spontaneous can be very exciting and romantic, it's not a good sign if he doesn't ever want to make solid plans with you. If he's developing serious feelings for you, he'll want to make as many plans as possible so he always knows when he'll be seeing you next.
If he's seeing a few other girls, he might be waiting to see what other offers he gets before committing to anything. This
'spontaneity' could also be another way of saying 'let's just hook up whenever I feel like it.'

leading relationship matchmaking service. eHarmony's

a change for the better.

1. Clean Up Your Act

Regardless of how tidy a woman may or may not be, she's
delighted when a man keeps his home, car, clothes and
body squeaky clean and smelling good. Special attention is
required for the refrigerator, sink, and especially the
bathroom. She'll notice. Keeping clean is a positive way to
live and it will help guys score a check plus on the first
date and beyond. It may also up his chances at her wanting
to see if his sheets are clean, also. Once into a relationship,
guys need to set the bar high. That means cleaning up
around the house, taking out the garbage and vacuuming
etc. It's got to be done anyway and she'll notice.

2. Be Proactive

If a woman has to keep drilling a guy about doing every
little thing that's expected, he'll remain in her doghouse.
It's critical for men to take care of things on their own
without having to be asked a million times. No one wants to
be a nag, but she'll seem like one if he doesn't think ahead.
Want to avoid "the talk"? Anticipate a woman's needs and
address them. Surprise her with flowers, reservations at a
restaurant she's mentioned, cook her a tasty meal, order
tickets for that play she wanted to see, etc. It all comes
down to…

3. Paying Attention

Yep, I've said it again, and I still mess up. Guys have to
stop thinking about themselves 24/7 and show more
consideration for the one who keeps them happy. When
they don't, things get tricky and guys hear about it at the
most inopportune times. I got an earful the other night right
after settling in for the second half of the Cowboys-Giants
American football game. She made a lot of great points, but
maybe she should have been paying attention also. After all,
she knows I'm a big Cowboys fan. But, her points were on
target, so I maintained eye contact throughout the 'discussion', actively listened and took her suggestions to heart.

4. Tell Her How You Feel

When something's wrong with a relationship guys often
choose one of two courses of action. They do something
about it or they leave. I'm not suggesting men are well
adjusted in this area, but it's usually how we roll. We're not
very good at addressing relationship issues. We try to fix
things instead of discussing what's wrong, the way women
do. Men can work wonders if they listen with an open mind
and express how they feel at the appropriate time. That's
not too much to ask.

5. Sex

I'm not going into details, but women reward men who are
creative, romantic and aim to please their partner. It's that
simple. There are lots more ways for men to keep their
relationships on course, but mostly it comes down to mutual
love and respect. Men and women want the same things.
They just have different ways of expressing themselves.
But, that's a good thing, isn't it? It would be a drag if
everyone were the same.

Nollywood Actress Queen Nwokoye Reveals How She Got To Stay Scandal Free

One Nollywood actress who can stand tall without a blister of
scandal is Queen Nwokoye. Queen, in a new interview with
DailyIndependent, had this to say about how she got to remain
scandal- free.

Why don't you wear revealing clothes like some
of your colleagues in the industry?

I am a very simple person and I hate exposing my body. No
way.

You have somehow managed to stay off scandals.

I think it has to do with my upbringing. I had extra-strict
parents. My grandfathers were headmasters. My parents are knights of the Catholic Church. I have a strong religious background. My life was almost triangular. I went from home to school and to church and back home. Even till my first year in school, I always woke up to go and mop the altar in the church for the morning Mass. I was the president of the block rosary crusade (Catholic prayer group) in my area. I have younger sisters and I need to show them good examples. They look up to me. I am the first and they look up to me. Now, as a grown person, there are things I cannot do.

You sound so religious; is there any plan of you retiring someday from acting for religious life?

No. I am not ready to become a reverend sister. I actually
thought I was going to be a nun then, which was past. But I
just knew I would not make a good reverend sister because I
wanted a family of my own. I want to live the rest of my life
with a man I will call my own. So I dropped the idea of being
a nun and faced reality. And that is why I waved the idea
aside.

2015: Atiku Dumps PDP For APC

Strong indications emerged yesterday that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar will mid next week dump his party, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, for the All Progressives Congress, APC.

Saturday Vanguard gathered yesterday that the decision to take the action and leave the party was borne out of the frustration and humiliation the PDP has made him go through, just as he has concluded nationwide consultative tours of the six geo-political zones of the country where he brainstormed with stakeholders, leaders and supporters on his next political journey ahead of 2015 Presidential election.

A source at his Jabi office told Saturday Vanguard yesterday that Atiku Abubakar has concluded plans to leave PDP for APC.

Atiku had raised some grievances against the PDP and substantiated his marginalization of not being wanted, even as he stressed that he is a BOT member by right but he is not being called to its meetings and so does not attend, adding that he is a NEC member by right under the constitution, but he has been barred from its meetings because invitations are not given to him.

He also complained that by the norms of the party, he is entitled to being invited to its PDP caucus and said that Dr. Alex Ekwueme, a former Vice President gets those invitations, but he gets none of those, adding that he is not considered as a major stakeholder in taking decisions affecting the Adamawa State Chapter of the party.

In a statement he issued last week and titled, "The Challenges of a Decision," the former Presidential aspirant on the platform of PDP noted that he has begun consultation tour of Nigeria, Dubai and London, even as he said that there was what he termed a sustained effort by the party managers and government to entrench impunity and its lack of preparedness to open up the party for democratic competition.

He added that his decision to defect to APC may be borne out of the fact that Governors elected on the platform of PDP have already given an automatic ticket to President Goodluck Jonathan for his re-election bid.

Meanwhile, a statement from his office to Saturday Vanguard yesterday said that the former Vice President yesterday concluded his nationwide consultative meeting with that of the North-East geo-political zone in Bauchi.

APC Has Declared War Against Nigerians - Presidency

The presidency has warned the All Progressive Congress, APC, against the acts of war it has declared on Nigerians through its anti-people directives to its members in the National Assembly who were elected and swore oaths of allegiance to perform their constitutional duties to their constituencies across the country.

The warning came against the latest directive by APC to its members in NASS to deny the Nigerian Police force its vote in 2014 Budget to press home its demand for the removal of Mr. Joseph Mba as the Commissioner of Police in Rivers State.

In a strongly worded statement made available to the media yesterday, the Special Adviser to the President on Political Affairs, Alhaji Ahmed Ali Gulak said, "the Presidency views with seriousness this latest directive by APC to its members in NASS to continue on the path of confrontation by guerrilla tactics in its war against Nigerian people"

Alhaji Gulak said the APC directives to its members in NASS to starve government and its agencies of funds to execute their statutory and constitutionally assigned roles for the good governance are calls for anarchy to rein of the country. And give APC the opportunity to seize power through undemocratic means. This is the height of irresponsibility and affront on Nigerian people and the state.

To deny the police its votes in the Budget, is most irresponsible and arrogant display of presumed power in the National Assembly.

By now, it should be clear to Nigerians that the APC has a hidden agenda which it can achieve through frustrating through constitutional means of simulating crisis for the presidency of Dr. Jonathan, to provoke social and economic crisis in the country.

According to Gulak, "the action of APC was to threaten, to deny the National Conference of funds, to conduct its activities, the second was to ask its members to shun debate of the budget and screening of the ministerial nominees as well as service chiefs, this time they have included the Police votes, which has serious internal and physical implications even as we prepare for the National conference and the election. Very soon, the APC will go after INEC or any other critical national institution for that matter "

Gulak said APC has declared an all out war a gainst the federal government and the people of Nigeria, but as the government in power, we urge all Nigerians to be vigilant and reject their ambush which is reserved for guerrilla situations.

He said, "their tactics so far have failed because the people of Nigeria have discovered that APC and its promoters are not interested in democratic contests but in trying to access power through the back door"'

According to the statement:"APC has no plans to transform Nigeria, because it has not organised itself as a political group, for the task of governance, it has no structures and credible manifesto and candidates to present to Nigerians, even with the release of election time tables at the States and Federal election in this year and 2015, but APC has concentrated its efforts in junketing around with threats of violence and civil anarchy."

Maku decries Adamu's defection to APC

The Minister of Information, Mr Labaran Maku, on Friday said the defection of Sen. Abdullahi Adamu from PDP to APC amounted to political miscalculation.

He noted that Adamu had benefited from the PDP both as a serving senator and a former Governor of Nasarawa State.

A statement issued by the Minister’s Press Secretary, Mr Joseph Mutah in Abuja said the minister bared his mind when he received a delegation from Agwada, the senator’s hometown, on a courtesy visit.

It said the minister thanked the people of Agwada for choosing to remain in the PDP and prayed God to touch the heart of Adamu to retrace his steps to the PDP.

It said that the minister urged people of the state to remain focused and dedicated to the PDP, noting that it would bring more development to the state.

“Nasarawa state remains the stronghold of the PDP. The people should close ranks with a view to reclaiming the state from the opposition in the forthcoming election’’, the statement quoted Maku as saying.

It called on the people to join in the campaign to promote peaceful coexistence in the state and other parts of the country.

It decried the recurrence of violence and wanton destruction of lives and property since the PDP left office in Nasarawa, urging leaders in the state to create the atmosphere for peace to reign.

The statement also quoted the leader of the delegation, Mr Samuel Osu, as stating the people of Agwada had resolved to remain in the PDP because the party provided the platform for their son to govern the state in the past.

The statement said Osu further appealed to the Federal Government to intervene and secure lives and property in the area and other parts of the state.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that Adamu was governor of the state between 1999 and 2007 under the platform of PDP. (NAN)

US Cellular offers $50 unlimited plan with throttled data as a catch

US Cellular Arena in Milwaukee

You won't have to endure data caps if you want cheap phone service at US Cellular. The carrier has just launched a promo plan that offers unlimited internet access, messaging and voice for $50 per month without a contract. There is a big gotcha, though -- US Cellular will start throttling data speeds after the first 500MB, which rules it out for movie fans and others who need a lot of bandwidth. Still, it's worth a look if you're keen to both lower your bill and avoid those dreaded overage fees.

8 Ways to Enjoy the Super Bowl with Your Sweetie

TNMCoupleFootball_Taheera
Before I met my Husband, I couldn’t have cared less about football, but he’s a big fan of the game and part of being in a relationship is taking an interest in what the other person is into right? I’m not gonna lie… I’m still not a big fan, but at least I can sit and watch a game with him without looking like a deer in headlights. For the other ladies like me out there who are really only interested in the commercials, the food and the half-time entertainment (Bruno Mars anyone?) here are some husband approved do’s and don’ts to help you better enjoy Super Bowl XLVIII.
1. Do learn the game - Read up on the game and the teams that are playing (FYI, it’s the Seattle Seahawks and Denver Broncos). Get familiar with some common football terminology like, line of scrimmage, down, blitz etc. Ask your honey to explain it to you but for the love of all that is good…
2. Don’t ask questions during the game - (unless the question is, would you like another beer)!
3. Do show your team spirit… Just make sure it’s for the right team. My Hubs is such a big Cowboys fan that my choice of red and gold holiday decor earned me major side eyes. It just so happens that my high school colors are pretty much the same as the Redskins. Oops.
4. Don’t Block the TV - Chances are he puts up with some less than masculine entertainment on your part so let him have his moment. Unlike the Real Houseflies of Love, Basketball & Hip Hop, the super bowl only happens once a year.
5. Do Make it Interesting – Why not wager a friendly bet with your boo? Come up with a sweet or sexy payout and everybody wins!
6. Do make good food - spend quality time before the game preparing game time eats. Click here for some some tasty tailgating treats.
7. Do Invite Other Couples Over – Make things more festive and watch with a group. If the other ladies aren’t into the game either, you can gather in another room for cocktails and girl talk.
8. Do Enjoy the Commercials - If you really can’t get into the game, keep yourself entertained until the next round of commercials (otherwise known as the best part of the game). Super Bowl commercials are some of the funniest and most original of the year and will give you plenty to talk about on Monday morning.

Man accuses Chinese boss of brutality in Ogun state

According to a report by Punch, a 40 year old man is accusing
his Chinese boss and his cousin of brutalizing him. Full report
below...

A newly hired employee of a Chinese firm based in the
Sagamu area of Ogun State has accused his Chinese boss,
Mike Jackson, of brutality.

The victim, Adeleke Owolabi, told Punch Metro that Mike
and his cousin, Tony Jackson, brutalised him during an
argument in Mike's office.

Owolabi said he had just been hired by Mike to be a
marketer in the northern part of the country.

The 40-year-old victim said, "I have been self-employed for a
long time and I met Mike sometime last year. He offered me a
marketing job in his company and asked me to resume in the
first week of January.

"He produces PVC, a roofing material, and said he wanted to
expand to the north and since I needed the job, I accepted. I
went on January 6, but he told me to return the following day.

However, I could not make it because I travelled. On January
8, I returned and after discussions, he said I should go get a
sack in which I could put the PVC into.

"I bought a Ghana-must-go bag of N500 with my own money
and one of his former marketers showed me how to package
them. I loaded 200 pieces into the sack and I was set for my
travel to the north. But Mike said I should proceed to the
production section to learn more about the product."

The graduate of Mass Communications from Olabisi
Onabanjo University said when it was about 4pm, he told
Mike that he wanted to leave so that he could arrive Kano on
time, but an argument ensued.

He said Mike became violent and descended on him.
Owolabi said, "After pleading with Mike, he said I should
remove the PVC from the bag and return the bag. As I was
doing this, Mike kicked me in my private part. I asked him
why he was being wicked to me since he was the one who
offered me the job.

"He said I was not handling the PVC properly and they could
break. He then slapped me, so I held his shirt in order to stop
him, but his cousin, Tony, smashed a bottle on my head and
beat me up until I fainted."

The father of two said when he woke up, he was covered in
blood. He said a lady took him to the Makun Police Division
from where he was referred to Idera Hospital for treatment.
He alleged that the Chinese men refused to visit him at the
hospital and did not offer any apology.

He said the police refused to press charges against the Chinese
men.

"The police said since Mike and Tony were foreigners, a lot
of things would be involved. I then reported the matter to a
human rights organisation and the case was taken to the
Nigerian Immigration Service, Ogun State Command. Mike
and his cousin came on January 17, and that was the first time
they apologised to me and promised to help me secure a
Chinese visa," Owolabi said.

Owolabi said he had been having medical challenges since the
incident occurred.

"These days, I find it hard to sleep at night. The doctor said I
should do a brain CT and spinal cord X- Ray and it costs
about N45, 000," he said.

He urged the government to ensure that Nigerians were not
maltreated in their respective places of work.

Attempts to contact Mike on the telephone proved abortive as
he did not answer calls made to his telephone and also did not
respond to a text message sent to the phone.

Police Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, who
confirmed the incident, said the case would soon be
transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department,
Eleweran, Abeokuta.

Adejobi said, "The matter was reported at the police station
and the lawyers of both parties decided to have settlement
talks. However, the aggrieved party was not satisfied as a
human rights organisation came to register a complaint. The
matter is being transferred to SCID, Eleweran."

How NNPC Staff Was Killed On A Trip To Abuja

The Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad (FSARS) has
arrested nine persons, including a native doctor in connection
with the killing of a staff of the Nigerian National Petroleum
Corporation (NNPC). The Deputy Commissioner of Police
FSARS, Mr Chris Ezike, confirmed the arrest while speaking
with a correspondent of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN)
in Lagos yesterday.

Ezike, who is of the Adeniji-Adele Police Station, said that
the suspects committed the crime on Sept. 23, 2012. He gave
the name of the NNPC staff as Mr Sylvester Emefiele, who
worked with NNPC's Transformation Office in Abuja.
Continue after the cut...

The commissioner said that the wife of the victim, Ngozi, had
petitioned the Inspector-General of police in September, 2012
over the disappearance of her husband after leaving Lagos for
Abuja.

Ezike said that the woman revealed that her husband left
Lagos for Abuja on the invitation of his boss to process his
visa for a training programme in Hungary.

"She claimed her husband sent her SMS on Sept. 23, 2012 at
about 8.37 p.m that he was at Gwagwalada and that was the
last she heard from him.

"She also stated that surprisingly, she noticed that withdrawals
were being made from her husband's accounts through
ATM,'' he said.

Ezike said that the arrest was made possible through scientific
tracking of the mobile phone line of the victims, stressing that
a school drop-out was first arrested in Ilesa, Osun with the
victim's blackberry handset.

"The suspect confessed that he bought the phone from one of
the suspects, a cab driver in Modakeke in Osun State for N22,
000.

He added that after the arrest of the cab driver in Abuja, they
were able to arrest others in connection with the crime.

"Two of the suspects confessed that they picked up the victim
in their taxi cab with registration No. AG 956 KEF at Giri in
the Gwagwalada Area Council to be dropped at Finance
Quarters, Wuye, Abuja.

"The driver of the cab was the one that picked the victim and
picked the second suspect some metres away even as the
victim protested, the driver pleaded with the victim that the
man was his brother.

"The second suspect claimed he brought out hammer as a
decoy for pistol as soon as he entered the front of the cab.

They subdued the victim and took him to a nearby bush.

"They claimed they search and dispossessed him of his laptop,
N3,000 cash, three ATM cards and other items.

"They claimed they forced the victim to disclose his ATM pin
numbers. One of the suspects went to the banks to withdraw
N180, 000 immediately and the second suspect watch over the
victim.

"They claimed that after they discovered the victim had more
money in his accounts, they used charm prepared by the
native doctor on him and he became weak.

"They claimed they discovered that the man died the
following day and they abandoned the corpse in the bus and
escaped.

"On June 10th, 2013, the two suspects led the DCP and crime
scene forensic experts led by the police doctor, Emenike
Chinenyenwa, to the scene located at Idu along Airport Road,
eight kilometres from Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport
junction, Abuja.

"At the scene, we met a completely decomposed skeleton
suspected to be the remains of the victim.

"The bones of the legs were still stuck in the jeans trousers
while his ribs were scattered around.

"His wrist watch, one leg of his sandals and the twine rope
used in tying him and other belongings were recovered there.
"The remains have been packaged by forensic experts for
autopsy by the police pathologist.

"The victim's family members were invited to identify the
items recovered. The wife and younger brother were able to
identify them.

"The two suspects also led detectives to arrest the native
doctor that prepared the charm in Ipetumodu, Osun State.
"Our investigation has been able to established offences of
criminal conspiracy, kidnapping, armed robbery and culpable
homicide,'' Ezike said.

The DCP said that after the DNA test on the bones and tooth
of the victim, the report by the Force Chief Consultant
Pathologist, Dr Akhiwu Wilson, showed that they were
similar to that of the victim's son and his brother.

"The suspects were first arraigned on Nov. 19, 2013 at High
Court, FCT, Abuja.

"The suspects are coming to court again on Jan. 31, 2014 now
that the lab result is out,'' Ezike added.
