Jonathan Has Institutionalized Corruption In Nigeria - Governor Amaechi

The Rivers State Governor, Chibuike Amaechi, on Thursday came down heavily on the Goodluck Jonathan administration, alleging that it has institutionalised corruption in Nigeria.

Mr. Amaechi also warned that there would be anarchy if the 2015 general elections were not free, fair and credible because Nigerians had made up their mind to embrace change.

In a lecture he delivered at the 2nd Peoples Media Limited Conference in Abuja, the governor lamented that rather than fighting corruption, the Jonathan administration punished those who do.

The lecture titled, The Metaphor of Change and the Politics of 2015, was delivered on behalf of Mr. Amaechi by the Rivers State Information Commissioner, Ibim Semenitari, who said the governor was attending the National Summit of the All Progressives Congress, APC, which also held in Abuja.

The governor, who assessed the various regimes in the country from that of Tafawa Balewa in the First Republic to the current one, said corruption was not a repository of the military alone, stating that the politicians were also experts at it.

He singled out the administration of former President Olusegun Obasanjo for institutionalising the fight against corruption for the first time in the history of Nigeria through the creation of a state agency, Economic and Financial Crimes Corruption, EFCC.

The governor, however, spoke about President Jonathan institutionalizing corruption amongst other things

"The progress made in fighting corruption began to erode under President (Umaru) Yar'Adua. His short-lived regime cannot be assessed in this wise. Currently in the present regime of President Goodluck Jonathan corruption appears to have been institutionalised." Mr. Amaechi said. "A whopping sum of $20 billion (N3.2 trillion) is alleged to be missing. The stories of both fuel and kerosene subsidy are nothing to behold; it reeks of corruption and rottenness. The aviation bullet-proof saga remains unresolved. The Shell-Malabu story is a macabre dance. The response of the regime to corruption is to imprison those exposing corruption."

"Kidnapping is an everyday affair in the Niger Delta. It becomes strange, any day it does not occur. Political assassination is also on the rise. Violence is the order of the day," the governor pointed out.

"We top the list with a figure of 8.6 million -10 million out of school children. Education is not affordable and accessible. Education infrastructures are deteriorating or non-existent. Beyond the education infrastructure are the softer issues, insufficient, poorly trained and ill-motivated teachers, a static curriculum, a lack of monitoring and quality control to ensure that education is not only available but is fit for purpose, competitive and qualitative. The result is that our children leave school, half baked at best and uneducated at worst."

"Although these rights are enshrined in the country's Constitution, it is crucial that the rights are ensured and protected by government as well as the citizens themselves," he said.

The governor stated that good governance was the responsibility of every democratic government working in the interest of the public, as was the smooth handing over of batons from one administration to another.

According to him, Nigeria was at the threshold of history with yet again another election, stressing that the electorate was already demanding a better deal.

He said, "The Electorate is already demanding a better deal. The poll commissioned by the All Progressive Congress being unveiled today has shown that more than half of those polled insist that they are dissatisfied with the status quo and want change. The message is clear: the people want to be allowed a chance to freely make up their mind about who should lead them."

He however said in political circles, the drums of war and voices of intolerance was a source of worry because of the determination of the Federal Government controlled People's Democratic Party, PDP, to guarantee free, fair and transparent elections in 2015.

"In political circles the drums of war and voices of intolerance gives cause for worry about the determination of the Federal Government controlled People's Democratic Party to guarantee free, fair and transparent elections in 2015. It is crucial that the elite and those of us in government understand that disallowing free elections would not just be an albatross but could be an invitation to anarchy," he said.

Jilted 400-level OAU Law student commits suicide

A 400-level Law student of Obafemi Awolowo University, OAU, Ile-Ife, Ige Dipo, has committed suicide at his residence outside the campus of the university few days after his lover broke up with him.

It was authoritatively gathered that Dipo, said to be above average academically by his colleagues, was found dead in his apartment at Asherifa area, a stone's throw from the campus, on Monday.

Dipo's suicide note left for his father reads in part: "Father, while reading this message, I would have been gone" before he allegedly ingested some substance later discovered to be poison.

The deceased, a member of the Christ Apostolic Church Fellowship on campus before his death was said to have met the lady last year.

It was gathered that Dipo's lover had been financing his education for over eight months of their relationship before calling it quits with him.

The lady, also a member of the same fellowship, was said to have broken up with Dipo because of his poor background and she could no longer cope with him.

This development, according to a source, was said to have subjected Dipo to emotional trauma.

He was said to have threatened that he would commit suicide should his lover remain adamant on her decision before he finally took his life.

Meanwhile, Dipo's untimely death has been described as mystery by his fellow students, who urged the police to conduct thorough investigations to unravel the circumstances surrounding his mysterious death.

While the news of his death filtered into the campus, some students who knew Dipo expressed shock over the sudden death.

Describing the late student as a person who lived a lonely life, some students, who spoke with our correspondent on OAU campus, said his studious life should be emulated by fellow students.

Our correspondent further gathered that his lifeless body had been taken to Ibadan, his home town by his family members.

US freezes $458m stolen by Sani Abacha

The United States said Wednesday it had ordered a freeze on $458 million in assets stolen by former Nigerian dictator Sani Abacha and his accomplices and hidden in European accounts.

The Justice Department said the corruption proceeds — stashed away in bank accounts in Britain, France and Jersey — were frozen at Washington's request with the help of local authorities.

Abacha died in office in 1998, but his surviving relatives still include some of the richest and most influential figures in Africa's most populous nation.

According to a civil forfeiture complaint unsealed in the US District Court in Washington, the department wants the recover more than $550 million in connection with the action.
"This is the largest civil forfeiture action to recover the proceeds of foreign official corruption ever brought by the department," said Mythili Raman, acting assistant attorney general.

"General Abacha was one of the most notorious kleptocrats in memory, who embezzled billions from the people of Nigeria while millions lived in poverty," she said.

The Justice Department said the assets frozen — along with additional assets named in the complaint — represent the "proceeds of corruption" during and after the military regime of Abacha, who became president of Nigeria through a military coup on November 17, 1993 and held that office until his death on June 8, 1998.

The complaint alleges that Abacha, his son Mohammed Sani Abacha, their associate Abubakar Atiku Bagudu and others "embezzled, misappropriated and extorted billions from the government of Nigeria and others, then laundered their criminal proceeds through the purchase of bonds backed by the United States using US financial institutions."

Raman said that the action sends a "clear message" that the United States is "determined and equipped to confiscate the ill-gotten riches of corrupt leaders who drain the resources of their countries."

- Return funds 'where appropriate' -

The US government's Kleptocracy Asset Recovery Initiative "where appropriate" provides for the return of stolen proceeds "to benefit the people harmed by these acts of corruption and abuse of office."

It did not specify what action would be taken with regard to the Abacha case.

The funds frozen include approximately $313 million in two bank accounts in the Bailiwick of Jersey and $145 million in two bank accounts in France, the department said.

Four investment portfolios and three bank accounts in Britain were frozed, with an estimated value of at least $100 million but the exact amounts in the accounts have not yet been determined, it said.

The Justice Department said that on February 25 and 26, authorities in Jersey, France and Britain complied with the US action to freeze the assets.

The complaint also seeks to freeze five corporate entities registered in the British Virgin Islands.

According to the complaint, Abacha and others systematically embezzled billions of dollars in public funds from Nigeria's central bank on the false pretense that the funds were necessary for national security. They withdrew the funds in cash and then moved the money overseas through US financial institutions.

Abacha and his finance minister, Anthony Ani, also allegedly caused the Nigerian government to buy Nigerian government bonds at vastly inflated prices from a company controlled by Bagudu and Mohammed Abacha. That operation created an an illegal windfall of more than $282 million.

In addition, Abacha and his co-conspirators allegedly extorted more than $11 million from a French civil engineering company, Dumez, and its Nigerian affiliate in connection with payments on government contracts.

Funds involved in each of these schemes were laundered through the United States in nine financial institutions, the complaint alleged.

The financial institutions involved include Citibank, Chase Manhattan Bank and Morgan Guaranty Trust Company, now JPMorgan Chase, and New York-based units of Britain's Barclays Bank and Germany's Commerzbank.

Bollywood star, Abhishek Bachchan launches END7 campaign

ORISSA INDIA – In a striking and emotional moment, Abhishek Bachchan, who has been named the first END7 Campaign Ambassador in India by The Global Network for Neglected Tropical Diseases (Global Network), poured water over the feet of an elderly man suffering from lymphatic filariasis (elephantiasis), a debilitating and disfiguring neglected tropical disease (NTD), at the Banamalipur Resource Centre run by Church's Auxiliary for Social Action (CASA) just outside of Bhubaneswar in Orissa, India. The eastern state of Orissa has one of the highest burdens of NTDs in the country.

Mr. Bachchan met with women and men suffering from lymphatic filariasis. These patients shared heartbreaking stories with him, including how the stigma and shame associated with the disease's massive swelling prevented them or their children from marrying, securing employment and socializing freely within their own communities. He also witnessed first-hand various disease management and disability prevention techniques, including washing, drying, exercise, massage, and elevation of the limbs, to alleviate some of the suffering.

"We have a staggering proportion of fellow Indians who are infected by or at risk of contracting at least one NTD." said Mr. Bachchan. "My first site visit with END7 has been a deeply moving, personal experience that allowed me to understand how these diseases can devastate entire families through the pain and stigma they cause," he continued.  "We are making good progress and have free, safe treatments available. But we must build greater momentum and every Indian should do their part to help make defeating NTDs by 2020 our country's next big health success story."

Maintaining the progress that India has gained against NTDs is crucial as India comes closer to achieving the control and elimination of five NTDs by 2020. Mr Bachchan will play a key role in drawing attention to NTDs as an achievable health priority for India, educating the public about the impact of NTDs and the importance of public participation in free NTD treatment programs, whilst also encouraging national and state level policymakers to continue making the cost-effective investment in NTD programs.

"The lymphatic filariasis centre that we visited today is at the forefront of India's efforts to combat NTDs," said Dr. Neeraj Mistry, managing director of the Global Network for Neglected Tropical Diseases, the initiative behind the END7 campaign. "CASA has a winning model, treating over 20,000 LF patients and providing cost effective medicines to prevent thousands more cases of LF in Orissa.  By integrating NTD programs with other health initiatives on water, sanitation and nutrition, this centre is a micro example of what India can achieve with NTD control and elimination programs at greater scale."

Lymphatic filariasis, along with other NTDs, can be prevented with a yearly dose of albendazole or DEC.
Pills to treat the most common NTDs are donated by pharmaceutical companies or procured by the Indian government, offered free of charge to the public. Many NTD programs use existing infrastructure, such as schools and community centers, to administer the medicine, making NTD treatment one of the most cost-effective public health initiatives available today.

END7 is the first and only global public awareness campaign dedicated to controlling and eliminating the seven most common NTDs by 2020. It was launched in 2012 by the Global Network for Neglected Tropical Diseases, an advocacy initiative of the Sabin Vaccine Institute.

Blame Nigerians For Scarcity

NIGERIANS woke up last week, panicked so much that they collectively agreed to purchase more fuel than they needed.

Before the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation realised the ploy, fuel scarcity had overtaken the country.

Panic buying, according to NNPC, was responsible for the scarcity that hit all parts of Nigeria. In Calabar, the product was available for N250 a litre in the black market.

Nigerians are wondering how a product that is unavailable in the petrol stations is on the streets, for the highest bidders. NNPC sticks to its story – panic buying.

What happened, the ordinary Nigerian thinks, was a gradual drying up of NNPC's supplies while whoever was responsible was doing something else, or nothing at all. Better still, he did not need to do anything about it than go through files that for almost 30 years had blamed panic buying for fuel scarcity.

Economic and social activities have slowed down. Losses from almost a week of fuel shortages would run into billions of Naira. Small businesses would hurt more. The jump in inflation figures is predictable. None of these affects those who got the country into this mess.

Do they queue for fuel? Do they know of emergency services like hospitals that would shut down if they do not get fuel for their generators? Do they feel the pain of the ordinary Nigerian who needs fuel to provide his potable water? If you do not feel it, you can think excuses would suffice.

What is so difficult about importing and distributing fuel since the official position is that Nigerians cannot refine fuel for their own uses?

Can those who stand against domestic refining of products now argue that they cannot fund product importation? The debate is not the same as increasing the pump price, a pet project of another group that posits that Nigerian refineries can only work, if fuel prices in Nigeria are the same as the international price of the product.

Our country could go down the drain for all that some care. They have no concerns for either the country's present or its future. All they want is their welfare, which they seem to have figured out rested mostly on things going wrong with Nigeria.

Government has to address product availability through private investments in domestic refineries. Labour, high volumes of usage, availability of the crude, savings on freight, insurance, port charges and other import-related costs would make fuel refined in Nigeria cheaper, in addition to creating jobs.

If panic buying caused the disruption of economic and social life of the past one week, government has a huge responsibility of attending to it in the same emergency manners security operations demand.

Obesere arrested for alleged rape

Popular Fuji musician,  Alhaji Abass Akande, popularly known as Obesere, has been arrested  by the Police in Lagos State for allegedly raping a 29-year-old business woman, Miss Olanike Olaiya in his Okota residence, Lagos.

The victim, who took the matter to the Police, also narrated her ordeal in the hands of the musician whose shows generally fascinate society women.

According to Olaiya, a  National Diploma graduate of business administration from Ibadan Polytechnic, "I got to know  Obesere through one of my friends, Mrs Bola Okoro.

She told me that Obesere would assist me in my business.

"I deal in office equipment and when I contacted Obesere, he asked me to meet him in his family house at Okota.  When I  met him, I  introduced my business to him and he promised to connect me to some of his friends in Dubai who would sell  goods to me on credit.

"After the discussion, he started demanding for sex and I refused and when I wanted to leave, he insisted I should sleep over in his house because it was late and he claimed that it was dangerous to go out late in the night in his area.

"I thought he was a responsible man and I decided to sleep
over, but at the dead of the night, he came into the room where I slept and pounced on me.

"He raped me and afterwards inserted a ring he wore into my  private part  and I started bleeding. He hurriedly  left me in the room saying he had an appointment to fulfil.

"I could not bear the trauma and the bleeding and I reported the matter  to the police."

Vanguard gathered that Obesere was first arrested last Wednesday by the Police at Isolo Police Division, where Olaiya reported the matter. He was subsequently released on administrative bail.

He  was later re-arrested on Monday, when medical examination conducted on Olaiya revealed that she was actually raped and the Divisional Police Officer, Isolo,  Adamu Ibrahim, was said to have ordered the transfer of the matter to State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, Panti, Yaba, for further investigation.

Sources disclosed that Obesere's arrest was made possible through a warrant of arrest issued by the Chief Magistrate of Isolo Magistrate Court, Mrs Kike Bukola Ayeye, as he had declined to honour several police invitations sent to his  house at Johnson Famiye Street, Canal Estate, Ago, Okota.

We are lovers — Obesere

Police sources also said Obesere in his statement denied ever raping Olaiya, rather he claimed she was his lover and they made love when she visited him.

The source added that Obesere claimed he asked her to go to a private hospital for treatment when she complained that she was bleeding, but he was surprised when she reported to the police that she was raped.

Abacha’s children attack Soyinka

The daughter of late dictator, Sani Abacha, Gumsu, has attacked Nobel laureate, Wole Soyinka, pointing out that she was a lover of books written by Soyinka at her younger age but now, she finds Soyinka's comment as "foolish, stupid and insignificant".

She was reacting to the recent statement by the World-acclaimed writer that he rejected the centenary awards offered by President Goodluck Jonathan to celebrate the 100 years of the amalgamation of Nigeria because Abacha was also included in the list. Soyinka described the decoration of Abacha with a National honour as an insult.
Gumsu took to her facebook page to react to the statement, stating that "someone tell Soyinka I liked his books when I was younger but that is where it ends. Today I reject his stupid, foolish insignificant statement".

In a related event, Sodiq Abacha, one of the sons of the late dictator also berated Soyinka for criticizing successive governments without proffering solution or offering himself for an elective position.

His open letter shared by Gumsu, reads in part:

"Sir, I believe brilliance is not perfection. I have grown and watched you criticize regime after regime and at that young and naive age I was thinking why wouldn't this man just contest to be president so that Nigeria can be saved, I would have defiantly voted for Mr Soyinka if it would have brought an end to Nigeria's woes. To my utter surprise, I heard about your FRSC leadership and how funds were misused and a great deal of it unaccounted for. "Oh my God! In the end he turned out to be just the same as everybody else" were my next thoughts. My hopes for you, all ended up in great disappointment".

OPEN LETTER: Abacha's Son Expresses His Anger To Wole Soyinka Over His Comments

One of the late Military dictator, Sani Abacha's daughter, Gumsu Sani Abacha recently blasted Nobel Laureate, Wole Soyinka over his comments that sharing the Centenary Award with the late Abacha was an insult.

Apparently she's not the only child that is angry as one of the sons, Sadiq Sani Abacha also did not find the comment funny and did not hesitate to express his anger in an open letter.

If you want to think, speak and act logically then you should know all three.
1. The law of identity
2. The law of excluded middle
3. The law of non contradiction.

Now let's look at each one of these and see what they mean in practice.
1.The law of identity
The law of identity means that things are what they are, which at first doesn't seem very illuminating, but wait; it implies also the following, that things are what they are, whether you like them or not, it implies that things are what they are whether you know them or not, it implies that things are what they are whether you agree with them or not.

However, if you don't like the facts as they are you are going to have to put up with them, because facts are what they are, if it's raining on your golf day, get used to it! Because the facts are what they are and are often not what you want them to be, like if the traffic lights turn red when you approach, stop complaining! The law of identity means that you must adapt yourself to the facts and start your work from there, it implies that the facts will not bend to meet your expectations. You must first adapt yourself to what life is and then get to work changing and improving things in your life, be brave to meet reality as it really is and not how you would wish it to be.

2. The law of excluded middle.
The law of excluded middle means that you should give a straight yes or no answer always and there is no middle ground. The law means that there is no kinda yes and kinda no, there is no 'sort of' being married because you are either married or you are not, you are either a thief or you are not, you are either on time or not, you are either living in Nigeria or you are not. The law is the idea that you should not try to keep all of your options open by staying in the middle or hedging, when it suits you, like when you accepted an appointment during IBB's regime as chairman of FRSC. I bet that was a military regime you partook in. Please pick one wife and state your claim 100% to her, pick one idea and go for it 100%! Decide and commit Sir! There you might find great power and self satisfaction in the doctrine of decide and commit. No half way measures, no middle ground, exclude the middle! Here! The law of excluded middle Sir.

3. The law of non contradiction.
The law of non contradiction says don't contradict yourself simple. If you say you will be there then be there. If you say you will do it then do it. Don't say or fight for one thing and then do the opposite. Don't say one thing and then later deny that you said it. Don't say one thing and then later contradict it. Be consistent in your thoughts and actions. Observing someone who was a socialist in the morning but then became a capitalist in the evening is a textbook on contradiction, these are two polar opposites, such a person is clearly inconsistent and is therefore considered a flip flop, confused, easily led or misled or at best a lunatic who has no clear understanding of the basis of either doctrine.

Apply these three logics to others with consistency and then you can ask for the same or expect the same from others, and then you can also ask for others to deal with facts not fantasy, which is the law of identity. Ask others to make up their mind to decide and commit. The law of excluded middle. Then ask others to follow through on the things that they say they would do. The law of non contradiction.

Sir, I believe brilliance is not perfection. My hopes for you, all ended up in great disappointment.
Here I find myself defending my father 15 years after his death because some of you have no one else to pounce on, or rather, you have chosen a dead person to keep pouncing on over and over again when you have more than an array of contestants. A coward's act I believe. "A common writer" is what I have heard you being referred to lately, and I believe a mature mind would now agree to such referrals. With all due respect, there is a great challenge that faces the country, we have to put our heads together, rather than clashing, our collective ships must sail in the same direction, let us leave the ghosts of past contention and face the future bravely as one, criticizing the past does not help the present or define a path to the future.

You say, with the weight of your sense of history and the authority you possess on national issues that " a vicious usurper under whose authority the lives of an elected president and his wife were snuffed out" referring to my late father, you must be growing old, or you would rightly recall that that president elect you refer to did not die while my father was alive. Did you slyly change your facts to fit a history that would better serve your narrative, or are you just plain forgetful? Either way, it shows you are losing your grasp of reality.

Comparing my father's leadership to Boko Haram's current reign of terror, is a rather cheap shot, you are in no position to examine, judge and sentence an entire regime based on the information you think you have, you are privy to almost none of the true facts, what is at your disposal is at best, hearsay, or were you ever minister of defence? did you ever sit in during security meetings, evaluate the facts and subtleties of national security? You remind me of Obama criticizing the Republicans before he became a sitting president himself, vouching to put an end to all American occupation, this all came to an abrupt end once he had access to the briefs and security issues, economic and political, facing his nation. Surely he did what he could, and history will judge him. To lead is not to be a rock star, and to be a Nobel laureate is not to be a an antagonist of this countries legacy..We are Africa's leaders, whether we like it or not, we cannot trivialize the centenary celebration, it happens only once, let us come together, if only for this one occasion and agree to disagree.

Open rebellion against the current government at this time, on the manner of the centenary celebrations, for whatever reason, is tactless, it is not about you, it is about our nation, our beloved country. There is a time and place for everything. My late father was a Nigerian, lived in Nigeria and died protecting our interests to the best of his ability, critiquing placing him on the honor roll, along with many deserving dignitaries is your right, you have the right to your own opinions, but you do not have the right to your own facts. Facts stand alone, regardless of who espouses them, let posterity judge, but you are clearly politicizing a dead issue, how could you not be? Having an issue with the naming of a hospital after the late General and leader? really ? Now ?

It almost seems as if you want to turn back the hands of time, what else would you like to undo besides the naming of the hospital, would you like to unmake Bayelsa state, Zamfara state or the others? What about the advances we made in commerce, reducing the inflation rate, what about security and welfare, how many projects, hospitals and schools were created? inflation went from 54% to 8.5%! my father oversaw an increase in our foreign currency reserves from 494 million dollars in 1993 to 9.6 billion dollars by the middle of 1997, that is unprecedented , 15 years after the PTF the benefits are still being reaped today in Nigeria, What of peace keeping and nation building, not just in West Africa but the entire continent, restoring democracy in Liberia and Sierra Leone, all these under my father's leadership, are all these not laudable? Or would you like to undo them all. All this on 8$ per barrel of oil! You have to be kidding me.

You are a learned man, you would have to undo all your learning to knowingly wish to undo all these achievements! I will be the first to proclaim that my fathers leadership was not pitch perfect or spot free, that does not exist, maybe in utopia but not here on this earth, so let us keep our discourse set in the sphere of reality please, he deserves the award, and he did not campaign for it, let it go, Sir...and allow Nigeria to at least bask in our survival and endurance in our growing prosperity and development in these trying times. I have been accused of being an optimist, hence, I am optimistic that you will come around and accept that we can all come together and face the future together, forgive each other our wrongs while celebrating our rights, I am still an admirer of your works after all, however, I cannot and will not attempt to answer your every charge, this is not the time or place, this is a time for solidarity, if only you were wise enough to grasp this.

I applaud the patience of President Goodluck Jonathan and his composure and restraint in not having a knee jerk reaction at such a pivotal moment in our nations history, but you would mar the occasion, Sir, in the future, please pick your battles, and do better to safeguard your relevance, Enough Sir!

Pastor Enoch Adeboye Says We Cannot Agree To The Terms Of Boko Haram

The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of
God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye, has called
on Nigerians not to lose hope, as the country would be
great again.

The popular preacher spoke on Sunday at his 72nd birthday message at the national headquarters of RCCG in Ebute-Meta, Lagos.

According to Adeboye, no matter what the nation was going through, it would be great again.

Speaking through his Special Assistant on Administration
and Personnel, Pastor Johnson Odesola, Adeboye noted:
This year,"2014, is a glorious one and a new beginning for
as many that will put their trust in God and not in man in
the face of the challenges facing the country".

He decried the insurgency in some parts of the North,
which has led to the killing of innocent people, saying: "We
cannot agree to the terms of Boko Haram, as the condition
that Western education is a sin is terrible. But let us hear
them out while we also apply the use of force to curb
attacks on innocent people".

Adeboye predicted an end to the Boko Haram insurgency,
noting that Nigerians in the past experienced religious
crises and God intervened.

PDP Can’t Reclaim South West States – APC

The All Progressives Congress has said that the Peoples Democratic Party cannot reclaim power in any of the states in the South West through credible polls except by the use of violence.

The Osun State chapter of APC, which made this known in a statement signed by its Director of Publicity, Research and Strategy, Mr. Kunle Oyatomi, in Osogbo on Monday, said that the people of the South West region, who were thrown into
backwardness during the reign of the PDP, would not allow
the party to seize power again.

The APC called on Yoruba people to be wary of "those
politicians of preys assembled in the PDP" to recapture the
South West states. He said that they had no plan for them
than to "squander their resources".

The statement reads in part, "It was during the PDP reign,
some Yoruba leaders were killed without trace of their
killers and the essential infrastructure for human capital
development as well as the industrial infrastructure that
Awolowo laid down were recklessly destroyed or sold off
to competitors of the race within Nigeria and to foreign
interests.

"Since 2010 when Awolowo loyalists assembled in the
Action Congress of Nigeria and later merged with other
political parties to form the All Progressives Congress and
finally recaptured all the states in the South-West except
Ondo. The Yoruba nation has since been trying to
reconstruct itself to attain the standard that Awo left and
move forward from there.

"It is therefore inconceivable that these people, who have
been so hurt by the PDP will, for any reason whatsoever
vote that party into power again".

In a counter-reaction, the state PDP chairman, Alhaji Gani
Olaoluwa, said Yoruba people were tired of the APC
governments because of their "anti-people policies, deceit
and corruption. We will flush them out of the South West,
soon".

Nigerian Anglican Church Subjects Members to Oath Denouncing Homosexuality

The Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion) has introduced
a clause in its constitution subjecting members, who intend to
hold positions in church, to take an oath of allegiance to God
denouncing homosexuality. The News Agency of Nigeria
(NAN) reports that the public denunciation took place in
Abuja on Sunday at St. Matthews, Maitama, during the
swearing-in of new members of the Parish Church Council
(PCC).

The Vicar of the church, Ven. Ben Idume, who administered
the oath to members of the PCC, said the church recognised
that those with such sexual orientation needed help and
counselling.

"But they would not be allowed to hold any position in
church,'' he said.

The legislation is significant because it applies to members of
the laity, clergy and house of bishops of the
church.

It also banned bisexuals from holding any church office.

The text of the vow reads:

"I declare before God and his Church that I have never
been a homosexual/bisexual or (have repented from being
homosexual/bisexual) and I vow that I will not indulge in
the practise of homosexuality/bisexuality.
"If after this oath I am involved, found to be, or profess to
be a homosexual/bisexual against the teachings of the
Holy Scriptures as contained in the Bible.

"I bring upon myself the full wrath of God and subject
myself willingly to canonical discipline as enshrined in the
constitution of the Church of Nigeria, so help me God.''

One of the oath-takers, Mr Lucky Erhaikhuemen, 43, the
Vicar's warden of the church, said two decades ago the oath
would have been of no significance in the Church of Nigeria.
"But with what is happening in Western countries and the
churches there, there is a lot a pressure on church leaders
and members here to compromise the teachings of the
church.

"The oath is a guide and warning that those in leadership
positions in the church must uphold scriptural teachings
and point to the godly part to the younger generations,''
he said.

In January, President Goodluck Jonathan signed a law
banning same-sex marriages and shows of same-sex public
affection. The law introduced a 14-year prison sentence for
people who are convicted of entering into a same-sex
marriage or civil union.

Under the law it is also an offence to administer witness or
help at a same-sex marriage ceremony. The law also forbids
people from running gay clubs, societies, processions or
meetings in Nigeria and the punishment for such acts is 10
years in prison.

The law states that such marriages or civil unions from
outside the country will be void inside the country.

OUYA Everywhere is bringing the Android game platform to other devices

OUYA has plans to level up in the near future, and it
has nothing to do with a new console. In fact, it has
nothing to do with any console at all, as the startup has
confirmed to Engadget that its software/platform will
soon extend to other devices, including set-top boxes
and smart TVs. As you'd expect, the firm's keeping
most details about the "Everywhere" initiative a secret
at this point, but OUYA's slated to announce its first
deal with a hardware manufacturer within the next two
weeks.

This development doesn't mean one of Kickstarter's
biggest success stories is about to get out of the
hardware business, though, as a rep told us "...there will
always be OUYA hardware." The firm will push
through with the annual refresh cycle it promised,
though he couldn't share details about the next reference
design. If you're crossing your fingers for a mobile
release, though, we're sorry to say that won't be
happening. At this point, we're told the Everywhere
project has nothing to do with mobile, since " Julie
[Uhrman] believes strongly that the most immersive
way to game is with controller and screen."

Gamefly tries adding movie rentals to its disc-by-mail service

Netflix may have flinched at the prospect of
maintaining its disc-by-mail service, but GameFly
seems to be embracing it. On April 4th, the company
will begin shipping DVD and Blu-ray discs to
customers with a 2-game (or higher) GameFly
subscription. The program is a test, Gamefly CEO Dave
Hodess told VentureBeat, launched in the wake of
subscriber pleas for film rentals. It's free for now --
piggybacking on the company's existing game
distribution network -- but Hodess says that Gamefly
will monitor the test and tweak the program as needed.
While we don't know how large the company's film
library is just yet, the beta presents an interesting
alternative for folks who miss the duality of
Blockbuster's defunct disc service.

Sony says the PlayStation 4's 'Share' button has been used 100 million times

Sony has a released a bunch of statistics covering the
first four months of life of its new baby. Beyond regular
sales figures (six million units so far, and nearly 14
million game sales), some of the more interesting
numbers relate to how PlayStation gamers are engaging
with the console's online features. We're told that half
of all PS4 owners have been persuaded to cough up for
a PS Plus subscription, which grants access to online
multiplayer gaming as well as a number of discounted
and free titles. Meanwhile, the 'Share' button on the
DualShock 4 controller has apparently been used 100
million times to share recorded game highlights with
the PS4 community, and 3.6 million gameplay
broadcasts have been streamed over Twitch and
Ustream -- a feature that still hasn't been enabled on the
Xbox One. And who knows? The PS4's Twitch
numbers might have been even higher if people hadn't
gotten themselves banned for playing real-live strip
poker.

Facebook in talks to buy drone company, could battle Google's internet balloons

Facebook is in discussions to purchase Titan Aerospace,
a company that makes solar-powered drones that can
apparently stay up in the skies for up to five years at a
time. According to Techcrunch's sources, Facebook
wants solar-powered drones to deliver sky-based
internet access, with a view to building 11,000 UAVs to
deliver data services, at least initially, in Africa. The
drone company has confirmed that there are discussions
with Facebook, The plan would certainly chime with
the social network's Internet.org efforts to expand
online access in developing countries. Of course,
Google is also trialling internet access from the sky,
although it's using balloons, with Project Loon offering
50 testers internet access via solar-powered helium
balloons. Its experiments are currently centered on the
southern hemisphere, namely New Zealand. The
purchase will reportedly cost Facebook $60 million --
still, a whole lot cheaper than a messaging app.

XBMC looks to improve Android video playback with 'Gotham' beta

Version 13 of XBMC's media center software,
codenamed Gotham, is now ready for your official beta-
testing pleasure. The foundation -- which started the
project for the Xbox and spawned apps like Plex and
platforms like Boxxee -- kicked off work on the update
nearly a year ago. It said that many of the qualms from
version 12 (Frodo) users have been addressed. Most
notably, it now supports native hardware decoding on
Android for x86 and ARM platforms, which should
bring smoother playback for formats like Blu-ray. Other
improvements include support for more 3D formats
(with the notable exception of 3D Blu-ray), better
touchscreen support, enhanced UPnP capability,
"dramatic" audio engine improvements and easier setup.
Though nightly versions have been available for a
while, the company provided the usual caveats about
beta software and the importance of backing up. If
you're unperturbed by that, hit the source.

Apple announces CarPlay: in-vehicle voice and touch access to notifications, maps and music (update: video)

Apple has officially announced CarPlay, its new in-car
interface that'll be compatible with new Ferrari,
Mercedes and Volvo cars unveiled at the Geneva Auto
Show this week. Designed "from the ground up" to
bridge the gap between your iPhone and your auto, it
will offer touch- and Siri-based voice navigation of
your smartphone services, including contacts,
voicemail, notifications, map directions and music
cueing -- it will even support third-party apps like
Spotify and iHeartRadio from launch. Voice controls
will be activated by a button on the steering wheel,
while the in-car touchscreen is populated with those
familiar iOS 7 icons for easy access. The service will
launch as an iOS update for Lightning-enabled iPhones
(that's iPhone 5 and up), with CarPlay-compatible
vehicles launching later this year. And if any of the
above aren't your preferred automaker, Apple says that
you can expect compatible cars from BMW, Ford,
General Motors, Honda, Hyundai, Toyota and several
more in the near future.

Update: At first CarPlay will only allow you to connect
through a Lightning cable, but WiFi should be coming
in the near future -- at least from Volvo. And, in case
you're wondering, the CarPlay connection is based on
the H.264 video protocol, and sends user input from the
touchscreen back to your iDevice. There's also a video
demo/teaser that we've added after the break.

Samsung's latest Chromebooks come wrapped in faux-leather, on sale next month for $320 and up

It's been over a year since Samsung released a new
Chromebook, and since then the competition has been
heating up: Dell, HP, Lenovo and Toshiba all sell
Chrome OS devices now, as does Acer, which has been
at it from day one. Accordingly, Samsung is refreshing
its lineup: the company just announced the
Chromebook 2, which comes in 11- and 13-inch screen
sizes, and will ship next month starting at $320 for the
smaller version (the bigger one costs $400).

Perhaps even more interesting than any of the spec
bumps, though, is the new design. Confirming some
leaked photos that began circulating two days ago, the
Chromebook 2 sports a faux-leather lid with a soft,
rubbery finish and fake stitching at the edges -- yep,
just like the Galaxy Note III, Note Pro 12.2 and other
recent Samsung devices. In-hand, it actually feels quite
nice, and might even be easier for children to grip,
assuming this ends up in classrooms. It also has a thin
silhouette, which we're told was modeled after the
ATIV Book 9 Plus (formerly called the Series 9
Ultrabook). It's generally a pleasing design, although
the plain plastic underside makes for a mullet sort of
look: premium on top, bargain-basement on the bottom.
If you wanna save money, the last-gen (safer-looking)
model will still be around for $249, but you might
choose to splurge anyway: the 13-inch Chromebook 2
steps up to a 1,920 x 1,080, 250-nit screen, with both
sizes promising improved performance. In particular,
they make use of an eight-core processor similar to the
one found in a variant of Samsung's new Galaxy S5
smartphone. As with the GS5, "octo-core" will
sometimes mean running all eight cores simultaneously
and other times just running a quad-core setup, with
either the four powerful cores or the four weaker,
energy-saving cores being used at one time, depending
on the task. Largely thanks to that, Samsung is rating
battery life at eight hours on the smaller 11-inch model,
and 8.5 hours on the 13-inch version. Whichever model
you choose, you'll get 4GB of RAM (twice the
allotment of the last-gen model) plus 16GB of local
storage.

On the software side, these are also the first
Chromebooks certified for Google Hangout, though
really, any Chrome OS device can use Hangouts, not
just these. Samsung also threw in a year of AirDroid
service, which lets you wirelessly transfer files between
your Android phone and Chromebook. Oh, and this isn't
a software tweak, but the Chromebook 2 now has
Bluetooth 4.0, not 3.0. Also nice to have. In any event,
it will ship sometime next month, priced at $320 for the
11-inch version (available in black and white), and
$400 for the 13-inch model ("Titan Gray" only). We'll
be back with a review but for now, enjoy the hands-on
photos.

Aliko Dangote Becomes First Black Man To To Be Ranked Top 25 Richest People In The World

Foremost Nigerian industrialist, Aliko Dangote, on Monday made history by becoming the first black man to break into the rank of top 25 richest people in the world.

His wealth jumped to $25bn from $16.1bn in 2013, according to Forbes magazine's list of the richest people on earth.

Dangote, who was number 43 in the top 100 world billionaire list last year, moved up 20 spots to retain his position as the richest person in Africa and also number 23rd in the world.

The Chairman, Globacom, Chief Mike Adenuga, was the next Nigerian on the list with a wealth of $4.6bn to maintain the 325th position in the world.

The Executive Vice Chairman, Famfa Oil Limited and fashion icon, Mrs. Folorunsho Alakija, retained her position as the world's richest black woman and the 687th in the world with a fortune of $2.5bn; while the Chairman/Chief Executive Officer, BUA Group of Companies, Alhaji Abdulsamad Rabiu, was ranked 1372th in the world with $1.2bn.

The former Chairman of Microsoft Corporation, Bill Gates, is back on top after a four-year hiatus, reclaiming the title of the world's richest person from telecoms mogul, Carlos Slim Helu of Mexico, who ranked number one for the past four years.

Gates, whose fortune rose by $9bn in the past year, has held the top spot for 15 of the past 20 years.

Spanish clothing retailer, Amancio Ortega, best known for the Zara fashion chain, retains the No. 3 spot for the second year in a row, extending his lead over Warren Buffett, who is again in the fourth position.

The year's biggest dollar gainer was the Facebook's founder, Mark Zuckerberg, whose fortune jumped by $15.2bn to $28.5bn, as shares of his social network soared.

Technology, and more specifically Facebook, helped to propel numerous fortunes lately.

The company's Chief Operating Officer, Sheryl Sandberg, joins the ranks for the first time, as does the Facebook's long-time vice-president, Jeff Rothschild.

Also, thanks to a $19bn deal (including restricted stock) with Facebook; WhatsApp founders, Jan Koum and Brian Acton, join the ranks of Silicon Valley's wealthiest for the first time.

They are four of 26 newcomers whose fortunes come from technology; 10 of whom are American, including Dropbox CEO, Drew Houston, and Workday cofounder, Aneel Bhusri.

The United States once again leads the world with 492 billionaires as a result of the technology boom and strong stock market, followed by China with 152 and Russia with 111. But wealth is spreading to new places.

For the first time in the history of the Forbes rating, billionaires were found in Algeria with Issad Rebrab, who is into food business with $3.2bn worth of fortune; Rostam Azizi from Tanzania with $1bn; and Sudhir Ruparelia from Uganda with $1.1bn.

Massacre Continues As Boko Haram Attacks Another Borno Village, Many Casualties Reported

After yesterday's attack on Mafa, Borno state, reports coming in states of fresh attack by terrorist sect Boko Haram on Jakana Village in Kaga Local Government Area of Borno State last night.

Sources state that the attack lasted till 3 a.m last night, described the events as horrendous as the ran away, while villagers from a neighbouring village of Auno had to flee Njimtilo, another village outside Maiduguri, after seeing the skies being lighted by burning fire from the direction of the attacked village.

They said: We spent the nIght in Njimtilo village after running from our own village, Auno", said an embattled villager, Bashir Adam. He added that "even in Njimtilo we could still hear the sounds of shooting in Jakana. We hope our brethren there will survive this calamity that has befallen us".‬

While victims from the jakana village said that the sect had warned them of an imminent attack, therefore many of the villagers had fled their homes a week ago. The warnings were allegedly handed down by Boko Haram members via leaflets dropped around the village.

The Borno Police Public Relations Officer, Gideon Jubrin, confirmed the incident to journalists but said there were no details yet. The Monday night attack in Jakana occurs about 24 hours after at least 32 people were killed by the Boko Haram in Mafa Village.

7 Great Ways to Improve Yourself and Become a Better Person

Recently, I've lost myself in thoughts of self-growth and I
planned different ways to improve myself and become a better
person. I believe many of us want to improve ourselves.
Although one of us has a goal of becoming a successful
lawyer, while the other wants to become a successful doctor,
one main thing that we all have in common is the goal of self-
improvement. There's no way you can be a successful lawyer
or doctor if don't improve yourself as a person! Without
further ado, here are a few great ways you need to improve
yourself and become a better person!

1. Admit your mistakes
It's extremely important to realize and admit your mistakes.
For instance, if you accidentally lash out at someone, you
should admit your mistake and apologize sincerely. Also,
never dwell on your mistakes! Learn from them and move on!

2. Find a role model
Finding a role model that you can look up to is one of the best
ways to improve yourself and become a better person. It can
be anyone that you admire – your mom, sister, dad, brother or
even favorite character from a movie or book. They will
motivate and inspire you to work on yourself and become a
better person!

3. Work on your flaws
List the things that you dislike and like about yourself. Then,
look at the things you dislike about yourself and think of
different ways to scratch them off your list. But don't let those
things scare you since before you know it, some of the bullet
points will be crossed out!

4. Set goals and reach them
It's also important to set goals, but make sure you never set
limits on yourself because you may not know about your own
capabilities. For instance, instead of saying you'll only run a
mile and not more, set a goal for yourself of running 2 miles.
Remember, pushing yourself in the right direction never hurts!
Who knows, maybe you will run 3 miles!

5. Use constructive criticism to your advantage
No one likes to be criticized by others, but you can actually
use constructive criticism to your advantage. Instead of
denying any accusations and putting up a defensive wall,
consider if there's any truth to what others say about you and
if there is, it may be something you can work on. But if the
accusations are absolutely inaccurate, it's not worth any
consideration!

6. Don't be too hard on yourself
Improving yourself doesn't mean changing everything about
yourself. It's still good to have some small flaws. In fact,
that's what makes you who you are. It may sound silly when
people say you should love your body the way it is, but it's
true. Never compare yourself to others! There is someone who
adores you the way you are, you just don't know about it.

7. Stay grounded
Though many of us may come close to perfection, no one
reaches that state. There's always room for self-improvement
no matter what age you are. I don't say that you should never
feel accomplished in life. In fact, you may never stop working
on yourself, that's why it's important to stay grounded!
Maybe these ways sound too cliché for you, but try them and
you will definitely improve yourself as a person! What are
your steps to self-improvement? Share them please!

8 Reasons Not to Be So Disappointed in Yourself

If you tend to be self-critical, you need to know some reasons
not to be so disappointed in yourself. It's too common to be
ashamed of your mistakes, your failures and your lack of
achievements. It's okay to have standards, but it's not helpful
to constantly put yourself down. Here are a few reasons not to
be so disappointed in yourself.

1. There's always room for improvement
You do not have to be an incurable optimist to see how you
can improve on what you have not done (or done). Therefore,
whatever is making you feel disappointed in yourself, view it
as a positive opportunity. You can do it even better on your
next attempt!

2. Nobody is perfect
Another reason not to be so disappointed in yourself is that
we're all human, and it means that we can get things wrong.
If we never made mistakes or had problems, it wouldn't be a
real life! Accept that you are not perfect, just like everybody
else.

3. Everybody makes mistakes
We all make mistakes. It's not possible to get through life
without making any mistake. The only problem is if you keep
repeating the same mistake many times. Why get so
disappointed in yourself when everyone else is doing the same
thing?

4. There is always hope
Maybe you are upset because you didn't get a job you applied
for, or you feel like you will never make enough money to
buy your own house. There is always hope! Be optimistic!
Maybe there is a promotion that will give you a better salary
or a better job just around the corner.

5. Get motivated
Successful people never let disappointment stop them. They
always keep on trying until something works. They do so
because of determination. Apply a bit of that to your life.
Don't be disappointed at your failures instead use them as a
motivation to keep trying until you succeed.

6. Stop comparing yourself to others
Many people feel disappointed in themselves because they are
constantly comparing themselves to others. Your friend earns
more money, your brother has a better car or your coworker
has a happy relationship. You are better than you think, just
be kind to yourself but not critical. Maybe your friend doesn't
like her job, or your brother bought his new car on credit!

7. Don't let other people influence you
Often we face disappointment because of the fear of letting
others down. Maybe we have absorbed the message from
parents that only the best is good enough. But don't let those
negative influences of other people affect your view of
yourself.

8. Don't give up
We are all going to fail sometimes, you should get used to it.
Giving up doesn't always mean you are weak. Things are not
always that easy, don't get discouraged when you fail doing
something, just keep trying until you get what you want.
Being determined is the sure way to succeed.
Do you feel like you fail every day, or you are just not getting
anywhere? How do you handle disappointment? Share your
thoughts, please!

7 Wonderful Ways to Be Nicer to Yourself

In order to have a good relationship with people who surround you, first of all you should live in harmony with yourself and your inner world. To achieve it, you need to be kind and nice to yourself. Our attitude to our own personality directly influences our place in society. Never mind other people's opinions and those who tell you that being good to yourself can be harmful. If you treat yourself kindly, you will have so many opportunities to become happier and your self-esteem will be greatly improved. That's why I would recommend you to learn how to be nicer to yourself. To my mind, the biggest problem of modern society is the necessity to stick to certain rules in order to be those whom others want to see us. Unfortunately, we often forget to be ourselves. By embracing our authentic selves, we'll be able to see the world from different side and get more experience in our life. I must say that by being kind to yourself you will enjoy numerous benefits. As a result, the feeling of satisfaction, self-acceptance and happiness will never leave you. So, here is the
list of some easy ways that can help you to start being kind to
yourself.

1. Your Internal Dialogue Is Important
Can you say that your emotional health is perfect? I think
there are few people who can tell that. If you are not one of
them, you should certainly try your best to improve your
emotional state. Don't wait for opportunities, start being nicer
to yourself right now. It is necessary to remember that our
words and the way we say them have a great impact on our
personality and people's attitude to us. I would advise you to
pay much attention to what you say. Try to erase all negative
and pessimistic words from your vocabulary. Surely, it won't
be so easy to reach the desirable result, but practice will help
you to succeed.

2. Invest in Yourself
If you are looking for the most effective way to treat yourself
kindly, then you should definitely invest in yourself. This is
very easy thing to do, but the results will be astonishing.
Think of the activities which you like to do most of all and
make it a rule to do at least one of them every day. You don't
need much time for that. I think that 30 or 60 minutes will be
absolutely enough for you to feel comfortable and enjoy your
life. For example, you can listen to your favorite song, read an
interesting book or simply walk in the park and admire
nature's beauty. By doing all these things you will refresh
your mind and your body will rest too. And this is not the
whole list of things you can try. There are so many ways to
stay cheerful and positive every day that will enable you to
love yourself more.

3. Be Your Best Friend
Usually when we face some problems in our life, we
constantly blame ourselves for the mistakes we made. But
such behavior can only harm our emotions and lower self-
esteem. As a solution, I suggest you to be your best friend.
Your own support and encouragement will help you to cope
with any situation. Besides, we should always keep in mind
that every problem can be solved one way or another. Just
don't give up and love yourself!

4. Avoid Toxic Relationships
It happens so that sometimes people get bad experience from
their relationships with others. Having toxic relationships you
will face lots of troubles which can affect your emotions,
mood and even your happiness. Whenever you feel some
discomfort when communicating with your friend or your
lover, you should immediately find out the reason for your
misunderstanding. Otherwise, someone's disrespectful
behavior will make you feel upset. If you have discovered
such toxic friends, try to protect yourself from their negative
influence. The best thing for you is to keep to your own point
of view and do what you really like and enjoy no matter what
others say or expect from you.

5. Set Realistic Expectations
Being realistic is an indispensable part of your success and
your well-being either. Certainly trying to reach some goal in
your life you will always set numerous expectations. Still you
shouldn't forget to be nice to yourself. Nowadays we must
spare no efforts to achieve our aims that are imposed by
modern society. However, it should never make pressure on
us. Don't lie to yourself. If you've failed, don't make yourself
guilty, enjoy the process of your hard work. Just realize how
perfect and unique you are and start being kind to this great
personality.

6. Set Boundaries
I'm sure that all people around the world have certain
problems. And you are no exception. You should control
yourself and don't let troubles drive you crazy. To live a
happy life and to be satisfied with your own personality it is
necessary to set some boundaries. If you think about your
problems all the time, they definitely won't disappear. But
your mood will be spoiled enough. It would be advisable for
you to forget your work problems every time you leave your
office. They shouldn't prevent you from happiness and joy.
We all need to cherish our emotions, live in a full breath
paying no attention to judgments and restrictions. Express
love and kindness to yourself!

7. Don't Victimize Yourself
There can be some moments in our life when we have certain
difficulties. No matter how big they are, we don't have any
reason to criticize ourselves or even blame others for our
failures. In such way, your negative emotions will prevail and
you'll never solve the problem. You'd better stay calm and
think of the possible way out. Go to your goal step by step
and finally you'll be amazed with your abilities and power.
Consequently, your confidence will be increased and you'll be
proud of yourself.

Without a doubt we should treat ourselves with kindness and
love. Only this way we will improve our self-esteem, our
mood and we'll be much happier. Lots of things can help you
love yourself more. Please, tell us if you know any other ways
to be kind and nice to yourself.

7 Tips on How to Make a Good Impression

It is a common thing that people around us just do not get us
right and perceive our personality not the way we would want
them to. This may be connected with all the spheres of our
lives starting with the hard work to get promoted or simply
among our friends or family members. So if you notice that
the people around you do not recognize that bright person as
you are, here are a few ways you need to know to make a
good impression.

1. The way you look
No matter what it is said truth can't be changed and people
will keep looking at your appearance first and only then
discover you as a unique personality. The first impression in
most cases is decisive in further relationships. That why in
order to avoid giving a wrong impression, you should take
care of the way you look. It is not all about expensive and
fashionable clothes but about the way they suit you and the
way you feel in them. Moreover, you have to consider the
dress code when dressing up for this or that occasion. Clothes
is one of the means to express your personality so be careful
with that.

2. Treat others with respect
It is an eternal rule of communication to treat all people
around you with respect. Even though you do not actually
respect this or that person you should behave yourself
decently and according to the rules of ethics. You should
never lose your face; show yourself as a person of good
manners. Treat people equally despite their social position or
material well-being and you will have the reputation of a
tolerant and polite person.

3. Stick to your principles
You may want to look more friendly, ambitious or fearless but
still you have your own set of principles and values you stick
to. Do not try to change them under the influence of other
people as they make you exactly who you are, a bright and a
unique person. You have to feel harmony with what you
consider to be right and what you actually do. If you feel
confident in that, then the other people will surely notice and
evaluate it.

4. Love yourself
If you want people to discover your bright personality and like
you, it is important that you love yourself and accept who you
are. Think of some qualities and traits of character that make
you who you are, which are appreciated by your friends and
family. Learn about your strong points and the things people
love about you. This will give you more confidence and better
understanding of yourself.

5. Discover your flaws
It is of extreme importance to be aware of your flaws and
fight with them. On the one hand, you should take pains not
to let other people discover it. And on the other, you are to
make efforts to turn your flaws to advantage. If you do not
know something – learn, if you can't do – ask somebody to
teach you. All the negative traits of your character should also
be reconsidered and corrected as your main aim is to make a
good impression.

6. Find the qualities you like in others
If you want to change some sides of your personality to
become a more interesting interlocutor or be more
professional, a very good solution is to find the people who
possess these features. Watch him or her and try to understand
how he\she manages. You should not copy somebody else's
behavior in no case! Stay yourself, but get experienced
watching other people. It is okay to have a role model and to
strive to improve yourself and be a better person.

7. Follow the rules
If you have a habit of always breaking the rules (no matter
what they are: either of society or rules of behaving in a
laundry) you should stop for a minute and think whether it
might scare away the people around you. Anyway if the rules
are widely accepted they do have positive intentions and you
have to lend your ear to them. You have already probed
yourself by breaking the rules so now try to follow them. Who
knows maybe you will start to agree to them

To avoid giving a wrong impression you don't have to pretend
or become another person you don't obviously look like. But
anyway seeking for improvement and learning something new
never does any harm. Do you always make a good
impression? What is your secret? Share it with us.

8 Great Ways to Cheer Up Your Friend

Every person needs to know how to cheer up friends! If your
close friend is going through a rough time, check out a few
ways to cheer up your friend. It's one thing to say you'll be
there, but another thing is to prove it.

1. Listen and understand
One of the most important ways to cheer up your friend is to
be there for her/him. Focus on what your friend is saying and
try to understand how she/he is feeling. Your friend may not
be looking for opinions or advice, she/he may need someone
to listen to her/his vent and encourage her/him.

2. Bake some cookies
Bake up a double batch of your friend's favorite cookies. Give
the first batch to her/him in person, and hide the second one
somewhere for her/him to find later! Warm cookies and a big
glass of warm milk seem to be the ultimate comfort food!
Don't you agree?

3. Send a bouquet of beautiful flowers
I don't know any person who doesn't like receiving flowers!
Flowers can automatically brighten everybody's day! Choose
your friend's favorite flowers and have a bouquet delivered to
her work. If you want to include some sweet message, let it be
anonymous! Not sure what her favorite flower is? Send a
mixed flower bouquet!

4. Have lunch together
Having lunch together is one of the best ways to cheer up
your friend, especially if she/he is having a particularly
stressful day at school or work. But do it nice and make sure
you talk only about fun stuff. Choose the place you know she/
he likes, and don't forget to order desserts! Sometimes those
extra calories are not bad!

5. Do some crazy things together
Lighten the load with laughter and do some crazy things
together! My two best friends and I once danced in the rain in
our PJs until we're soaked to the skin! Really, it was so fun
and we made unforgettable memories! To lift your friend's
spirits, do something crazy together, but be safe!

6. Help out
If your friend is stretched out to the max, do what you can to
help her/him! Offer to help finish a project, run errands, walk
the dog, or babysit. You can even make a surprise! Clean up
her/his apartment, get her/his car washed or grab a healthy
snack and leave it at her/his desk!

7. Make a photo collage
If your friend is feeling down, make a photo collage for her/
him including pictures of all the things she/he likes and holds
dear to her/his heart. Don't forget to frame it, so your friend
can display it on her/his desk or shelf to see it every day.

8. Take a road trip with your friend
Finally, if your friend is feeling down for a long period of
time, think of going somewhere fun for a small weekend trip!
Even if it is a couple hours away, it will get your friend's
mind off of what is going on around her/him. Pack your
picnic basket if you do not want to eat out each meal.
What do you usually do to cheer up your friend when she/he
feels down? Share your thoughts, please!
