‘Bring Back Our Girls’ protest in Senegal

Dakar – Members of some 20 civil society organisations in Senegal marched in Dakar on Saturday to demand the release of the girls abducted on April 14 by the Islamic sect, Boko Haram, in northern Nigeria.

The protesters, dressed in red, numbering over 100, shouted: "Release our sisters! Release our daughters!'' hurled hostile slogans against Boko Haram, while many others carried banners on which were written "Bring Back Our Girls.''

File:
A young Senegalese student, Seynabou Thiam, said she did not wish to be in the situation of the abducted girls "because it is very difficult to get separated from our parents.''

She expressed the hope that the mobilisation would reap its fruits with the help of God.

Another student, Mouhamadou Bocoum, said that he was shocked by the abductions. "War is not prosecuted by abducting children.

"I do not understand how we can convert Christians to Moslems by force, as announced by the leader of the sect, Abubakar Shekau,'' Bocoum stressed.

According to him, members of Boko Haram are criminals because abduction is a crime.

"They say they do it in the name of religion but Islam has never recommended abduction of children and to convert them by force'', he added.

Soukeyna Ndao, a member of the Association of Senegalese Jurists, regretted the weak mobilisation of African governments against the massive abduction of girl-students.

"I would have liked to see all African states protesting against this situation, unfortunately, the voices are not heard'', she grieved.

She pledged that the Senegalese civil society organisations would keep the pressure on to call government's attention to the incident with a view to making efforts at bringing back the girls safe and sound. (PANA/NAN)

More Boko Haram Terrorists Caught by Borno Men has Revealed The Girls Location

Eight Boko Haram terrorists who came out to get food and items from Goym village in Dikwa local government, Borno state were arrested by visiting Civilian Joint Task Force men who came from Gwoza. The terrorists who came in a hilux truck with some motorcycles were arrested at 4pm Friday evening.

Upon interrogation, the terrorists revealed that the 234 girls abducted from Chibok were still in Sambisa forest and that they had been divided into three groups. They describe the camps in Sambisa as very large. They said they were sent by their leader to get items including clothes for the girls.
The civilians hoped military support will be sent to Dikwa immediately as it is likely the terrorists return when they find their men were arrested. They also hope "the Americans" will act on this intelligence to rescue the abducted girls.
Dikwa local government area is one of the local governments that is a boundary of Sambisa forest, and is near Gamboru-Ngala where 300 civilians were killed recently.

Maiduguri also remains on high alert as two Boko Haram members arrested by the Civilian JTF two days ago, one pretending to be a phone card seller at Tashai Kamla market told them Boko Haram was planning to attack and massacre men, women and children in the capital city any day now.

"How to Become Good Actor" - Desmond Elliot

Nollywood actor/director, Desmond Elliot is no doubt one of the successful filmmakers that the Nigerian movie industry is proud to have. Desmond, who kicked-off his career in Nollywood as an actor conquered that stage with numerous movies to his credit. He went for further training and delved into film directing, which he has been combining with acting.

The popular filmmaker took to twitter few minutes ago, to drop few words of advice for up and coming actors on how to become a good actor. According to Desmond, to make a successful actor, you must first ask yourself why you want to make films, the answer and motive will reveal how successful your career will be.

"You want to be an actor? First of all ask yourself, 'Why?' Is it because of the money? If that is the reason you will fail woefully. Why do you want to be an actor? Is it because of the fame? If so, you will not go very far. But do you want to be an actor because you know you have the talent, others have told you, you have it and you have a passion/flair for it.

"If you want to be an actor, first of all go and get TRAINED. After that do a little monologue and post it on youtube. I am not saying that will get you noticed but It's a start. Then attend AUDITIONS. Every single big time actor out there, did the audition grind, trust me. Don't feel too big to attend auditions," he stated.

STOP INSULTING OUR OBAS—FAYOSE TELLS TINUBU

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in Ekiti State, Mr Peter Ayodele Fayose has chided the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Leader, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for saying that "the good Obas' in Yorubaland, who are forthright, firm and stand by the truth are not up to five, they are just three. Oba Awujale, Oba Akiolu and another," warning him to desist from insulting Yoruba Obas, especially those in Ekiti State."

Fayose, who described Tinubu's statement as an insult on the entire Traditional Institution in Yorubaland, added that; "Only someone without history and integrity will open his mouth to castigate our Obas, who are the custodians of Yoruba culture and tradition."

In a release issued on Saturday, and signed by the Director General, Ayo Fayose Campaign Organisation (AFCO), Chief Dipo Anisulowo, the PDP candidate maintained that "traditional rulers in Ekiti State are not useless, and we take serious exception to any individual or group rubbishing our revered Obas."

He commended the Ooni of Ife, Oba Okunade Sijuade for rising in defence of Yoruba Obas against Tinubu's insults, urging other notable traditional rulers to also "rise up and defend the Yorubas traditional institution, which is being ridiculed by Tinubu and his APC."

While eulogising the Awujale of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Adetona, during his 80th birthday, Tinubu had said the Awujale was not part of the useless Obas in Yorubaland, who are sell-outs, we know them, and it is not yet time to mention names, adding that "The good Obas' in Yorubaland, who are forthright, firm and stand by the truth are not up to five, they are just three. Oba Awujale, Oba Akiolu and another."

However the PDP governorship candidate, in his reaction said the implication of Tinubu's statement was that "It is either all Obas in Ekiti State are not forthright, firm and honest or there is just one of them that is forthright, since he (Tinubu) had already mentioned two Obas among the three that he believed are forthright in Yorubaland.

Fayose also saw Tinubu's comment as a calculated attempt to cause disunity among our revered royal fathers by playing certain obas against others.

The PDP candidate said all true sons and daughters of Oduduwa must rise against any attempt by the politicians to sow discord among the traditional rulers through careless and unguided talks.

"We are also not unmindful of the refusal of the APC government in Ekiti State to pay palace staff and denial to our Obas the five percent share in the Excess Crude Oil Proceeds.

"Tinubu's statement is therefore a continuation of the APC's contempt for our traditional institution, and we condemn this insult on our revered traditional rulers in Ekiti State in its entirety.

"We also demand an apology from Tinubu and his party, APC."

Lagos 2015 : Group dismisses Akiolu’s endorsement of Ambode

THE Visioners For New Lagos,VFNL, have dismissed the endorsement of an All Progressive Congress,APC, governorship aspirant in Lagos State, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode by the Oba of Lagos, Oba Rilwan Akiolu as a non-issue.

A statement by Leader of the group, Mr. Bambo Akin-Johnson, said VFNL had no problem with Ambode aspiring to be governor of the state, adding that he should emerge through a credible process.Ambode

The statement reads: " Since Ambode merits the job because he is the best accountant they have ever seen, why not redeploy him to Alpha Beta, where he could help manage the extension of Lagos wealth which is being diverted.

"We will fight Lagos elders and put a final stop to their extremism. We would not honour them by offering a covering. At their level and status, they should be left to face the consequences of their greed. We insist, Lagos is not the property of anyone person or group but a collective heritage that we will all protect with our very last."

Akiolu had Thursday at a book launch said Ambode had been anointed a successor to Fashola in 2015.

"I will not lie to you. The elders of Lagos have met and they have said that Ambode should be governor. The elders have said Ambode should be the next governor of Lagos State. Other aspirants have the right to aspire too.

But I will not open my eyes and allow the son of the Oba of Ewekoro to be the governor. But all things are in the hand of God Almighty," he said.

How I turn waste to wealth — Graduate scavenger

Thirty-one year old Ade Ogunbowale, a graduate of Mechanical Engineering from one of the universities in the country shared his success story as a scavenger with Ebun Sessou in a 30-minute interactive session in Oko-Afa area of Isolo, Lagos State recently.

Ogunbowale could not secure a job after his B.Sc degree and joined the legion of unemployed graduates three years ago. According to him, he carved a niche for himself and became a scavenger at a dump site in Oko-Afa.

Ade Ogun bowale

Ade Ogun bowale

Narrating the success story of how he makes a living for himself and sponsors his siblings, he said, "I pick up plastic bottles that litter the streets along my way as well as metals to make a living. Although, most people see the job as dirty, I am feeding my family from it".

According to him, "There are several people the trade helps.

"Waste recycling is a business that if you decide to go into it today, you are sure of making money. The fun of it is that you might even decide to start now with nothing and still make more money from the business," Ogunbowale said.

He explained that, "most of the scavengers pick used materials at various dump sites and elsewhere. They look out for objects that include glass, paper, metal, plastic, textiles and electronics.

"The materials are then taken to a collection centre where they are sorted, cleaned and reprocessed into materials bound for manufacturing", he added.

His words: "Recycling of such materials would produce fresh supply of the same material. For example, used office paper can be converted into making a new office paper just as used polystyrene can be converted into making new polystyrene.

"But recycling of waste is just picking up in the country as a new business model and it surely offers lots of opportunity. For instance, one benefit of recycling is that it saves resources. Also, to recycle waste is to simply reduce pollution. By recycling plastic material we can reduce air pollution as well as water pollution", he said.

An Environmentalist, Michael Simire explained that turning waste to wealth is a very viable area common in other countries. According to him, "waste needs to be managed effectively and it can also be a source of wealth if well handled. A lot of projects have been embarked upon by these countries and they are using waste to wealth programme as their programmes under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, UNFCC's theme development mechanism programmes.

"The UNFCCC is an international environmental treaty negotiated at the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development, known as the Earth Summit. I also understand that Lagos State Waste Management Authority, LAWMA, has something similar that it is working on".

He was hopeful that the country will soon join other developed countries in the area of turning waste to wealth. "I think, we will start from somewhere but I don't think we have done so much in Nigeria. There is a project in Ikorodu whereby waste is turned to fertilizer by a particular company. The company seems to be doing something when it comes to recycling of waste," Simire said.

He continued: "Our challenges could be how committed we are in handling such things. The question of sincerity should be put forward as regard such project. The technical know-how is another pressing issue to be addressed. We should also be determined to make this project work. Discarded materials can contribute to local revenue, job creation, business expansion and the local economic growth.

"Recycling business generates employment and adds value to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of a country that wants to create wealth for its citizens.

"Benefits of recycling include the following: prevents waste of potentially useful materials, reduces energy usage, reduces air pollution (from incineration) and water pollution (from land fill sites). Conserves natural resources, such as timber, water and minerals and prevents habitat destruction, loss of biodiversity, and soil erosion associated with logging and mining.

"The collection of waste starts from the general waste stream through curbside collections by purpose-built waste collection vehicles which moves the waste to the LAWMA Waste Bank. The waste is then sorted appropriately, for instance, plastic bank to contain a wide range of plastic waste.

"Once the sorting is complete, the waste is moved into the recycling plant to be crushed and screened for substances that are unsuitable for processing. Once cleared of unsuitable substances, the waste is then transferred by conveyor to the initial treatment vessel.

"As the business of recycling soars in Nigeria with more research going into the available materials for recycling in the country, some individuals and organisations are trying as much as possible to encourage Nigerians to ensure that recyclable wastes do not end up on the floor, fields, drainages and canals through indiscriminate disposal but contribute in generating incomes and adding value to people's lives. For example, organisations like Nigerian Bottling Company (NBC) and Lagos State Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) are collaborating to create awareness on waste recycling and its economic benefits", he added.

I scavenge to feed my wife, six children

According to another scavenger, Abubakar Abdul, " The reason why I delved into the business is because I don't have a job. As a poor man, there was no help from anywhere. I started scavenging since I was a bachelor and from the little money I'm making, I feed my family. It is not good if I sit at home doing nothing and allow hunger to destroy my family. I'm appealing to government to help us improve our living condition. Hunger is striking so hard despite all my efforts. I've a wife and six children and it is only from this picking of waste products that we feed. Sometimes, we will not have food to eat just because there is no money." he said.

Inspite of their resolve to make ends meet through this garbage business, the operators yet face societal stigmatisation amidst other unfriendly attitudes. Narrating his ordeal, Abdul said people sometimes look at them as insane.

Wale Olofin, 30 said: "I started this business when I was 15 years old and since then, I've not recorded any tangible gain from it other than to feed. I desperately need a wife but no woman has ever agreed to marry me because of the nature of my job. I impregnated a girl with the aim of marrying her but she ran away with the notion that she can't marry a scavenger. She even said we are not different from pigs,"Olofin lamented.

Narrating some of the hazards of the job, Olofin said: " On many occasions, I have been bitten by snakes, scorpions including ants; I have also sustained injuries on my legs at dumpsites caused by sharp objects but I do not relent because I have to feed to live."

Festac dump-sites

A visit to a dump site in Festac town reveals another hidden market where people earn a living from garbage business. When Saturday Vanguard visited the site, cars parked for sale could be mistaken as the only business going on in that vicinity, but walking straight behind these cars reveals another rendevous where scavengers meet with merchants that patronises them on a regular basis.

The stench oozing out from the refuse dumpsite opposite 202 Road at FESTAC town clearly explains that they deal in garbage. Scavengers were seen pushing their carts one after the other happily with noiseless haggle as money exchanged hands.

The initiative for buying iron scraps from scavengers all over dump sites and selling them to those who need them for recycling purposes spurred Ahmed Ojo into the business. The 45 year old auto mechanic said the need to make a living and fend for his family led him into the business since there is no job available.

He maintained that he earns more money than people think from the business. "I don't see myself doing any other business than this. I am a trained auto-mechanic with over six years experience but I ventured into buying iron scraps at dump-sites by coincidence. My take home pay weekly is far better than that of many civil servants that look down on us.It's a business I have been doing for over five years and I find it very lucrative raising my family and sending my children to good schools as well."

According to another merchant, Madam Kehinde fondly called Iya Fatiah by the scavengers, she has been dealing with scavengers at dump-sites for over 20 years conveniently. She added, "It's a profitable business that I earn a living from. I live comfortably in my own house, training my daughter up to the level of higher institution.

Although people perceive this business as dirty but I smile to the bank every time than most people that work in corporate organizations. I don't see myself engaging in any other business than this," she stated.

Igando

Scavengers in this area search refuse dump sites to pick waste materials and exchange them for money. They are kitted in boots and hold long hooks or sticks, searching for waste materials. Every day scavengers in Lagos wait for garbage trucks that go into the waste dumps to discard wastes. As soon as the trucks discard the waste, they search all, pick wastes and take them to sell. Bimbo Aderele (not real name), a student of Lagos State Polytechnic, is one of them.

She spends her holidays and mid-semester breaks at the Oko filling waste dump in Igando (Lagos), picking used bottles of soft drinks, water and canned containers. Bimbo doesn't even care that she is being ridiculed by her mates who see what she does as dirty and menial for an undergraduate. She said that others scavenging with her were undergraduates from different institutions.

The dump site at Igando in Alimosho Local Government Area of Lagos cannot be easily ignored. The odour that oozes from the site would make anybody gasp for fresh breath, but certainly not the scavengers.

As early as 6:00am, the scavengers swarm around the trucks. They cannot wait for the trucks to off-load as they are all set to pounce on the contents to look for saleable items. A few others look out for electronics, used home utensils and clothes. Some of them go as far as wearing the used clothes to check if they would fit.

Bimbo said, "Many of us are not happy being here but we have no choice. I come here to help my mum because she pays my school fees and those of my younger ones from the proceeds of this business. I cannot imagine how we would have survived if not for this place. That is why anytime we are on break, I come here to work. The only thing is that we pay N100 daily before we start picking."

She seems not to be alone in this situation, Martins is also a scavenger. He confessed, "I started picking used bottles here two years ago when there was no other place to go. I finished secondary school in 2011 but there was no money to further my education. Feeding became a problem too until someone introduced me to this business.

"I survive with the money I make from here which is about N30,000 in a month depending on the quantity of bottles I'm able to gather. What most of us do here is to pick used bottles of soft drinks, bottled water and the like, pack them in a sack and deliver them to those who buy them, crush and export. We pay the loaders, mostly the abokis."

63-yr-old woman recounts ordeal

Indeed, the scavenging 'business' has no age barrier. An old woman in her 60s, Mrs. Lasisi, said it was hunger that led herinto the business when she couldn't find any othermeans of livelihood.

"I am 63 but I don't want to die of hunger, so I come here to work from morning till 11am before the boys take over. I am a widow and I have a young boy who lives with me; it is the money that I make from here that sustains us, and I pay his school fees. I pick the used bottles and sell them to those who buy them here for N20 per kilogramme. I don't have another place to go and I must survive."

Boko Haram in fresh attack …as Jonathan, other leaders meet on strategy

PARIS – Boko Haram gunmen killed a Chinese worker and kidnapped 10 others overnight in Cameroon, piling more pressure on leaders meeting in Paris on Saturday to thrash out a tougher strategy against the Islamists.

Militants stormed an encampment used by Chinese road workers late on Friday in a region of northern Cameroon just across the border from the strongholds where they sparked global outrage by abducting more than 200 schoolgirls last month.

"The Boko Haram militants were heavily armed, they came in five vehicles," an official in Waza, a town near the site of the attack, told AFP on condition of anonymity.

He said the camp where the Chinese road workers stayed was usually guarded by soldiers from Cameroon's elite Rapid Intervention Battalion, but many of the troops were in Yaounde for a military parade ahead of National Day on May 20.

"Cameroonian soldiers retaliated and the fighting lasted until 3:00 am (0200 GMT)," said a local police chief, who said the militants also raided the police armoury in Waza overnight.

He said one Chinese worker was killed and 10 others had been missing since the attack and were believed kidnapped by the Boko Haram gunmen.

A source close to the Chinese embassy in the Cameroonian capital Yaounde spoke of 10 missing and one wounded but would not confirm or deny whether one had been killed.

- More cooperation -

News of the latest attack came as west African and European leaders gathered for a special meeting in Paris aimed at ramping up action against the increasingly regional threat posed by Boko Haram.

Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan was expected to face pressure to cooperate much more closely with Cameroon, Niger, Chad and Benin at the half-day summit.

A long-running territorial dispute has soured relations between Nigeria and Cameroon, hampering any steps towards joint action against the militants.

British Foreign Secretary William Hague told reporters just before the summit that regional countries, backed by Western powers such as Britain, the United States and the European Union, would have to forge a "strategy to defeat Boko Haram more broadly."

The group, which is waging a deadly campaign to create an Islamic state in northeastern Nigeria, has achieved a new level of notoriety since it seized the girls a month ago.

"This is one sickening and terrible incident but they continue almost every day to commit terrorist acts and atrocities," Hague said.

"There are many borders here and they are porous. This is very relevant to finding the schoolgirls. We want to see the countries in the region working together in creating an intelligence fusion cell," Hague said.

"Nigerian security forces have not been well structured" to deal with the threat posed by Boko Haram, he added.

French President Francois Hollande discussed the conference and the hunt for the girls with US President Barack Obama in a phone call on Friday, the White House said.

Among the resources already put at Nigeria's disposal have been US drones and surveillance aircraft but further Western military involvement is not on the agenda, officials say.

Instead, the emphasis is on sharing intelligence and knowledge about dealing with such groups.

France has particular experience in that area, having recently secured the release of a French family that was kidnapped by suspected Boko Haram fighters in Cameroon and then held in Nigeria for two months.

- French involvement -

France has troops deployed on peacekeeping duty in the Central African Republic and in Mali, where it sent a force last year to combat Al Qaeda-linked militants who had seized control of much of the north of the country.

Although the French believe that the intervention in Mali inflicted significant damage on groups such as Al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM), military planners remain concerned about the implications of potential alliances being forged between militants in across the deeply unstable region.

In terms of concrete help for Nigeria's anti-terrorism efforts, Paris has signalled that it could put Rafale fighter planes and drones it has based in the region at the disposal of Jonathan's government for surveillance activities.

The Nigerian leader is under pressure to appear proactive over the abduction of the girls after widespread criticism over his government's inaction, including his decision to cancel a visit to the girls' hometown of Chibok that had been scheduled for Friday.

The kidnapping of 276 girls on April 14 — of which 223 are still missing — has brought international attention to the insurgency, which has been raging since 2009 and has claimed over 2,000 lives this year alone.

'Why I’m Still Single' – Genevieve Nnaji

Beautiful and talented Nollywood actress, Genevieve Nnaji, revealed in a recent interview that she is still single because she is afraid of divorce and she has the desire to stay married for long.

Genevieve Nnaji

Genevieve Nnaji

Genevieve explained that she was born and raised Catholic and she doesn't believe in divorce.

"If I get married, I really want to stay married and staying married is not an easy thing. It means you are completely in tune with your partner. It means you have found your soul mate because you will have to be able to stand a lot of disappointments that would definitely come but then again you have to learn to forgive," she said.

According to her, before she decides to walk down the aisle with any man, she'd have to ask herself if he is the kind of man she'd be willing to forgive when the time comes and if her answer to that question is no, he is not the right man for her.

"If you know you can look into someone's eyes and say yes, this is the most you can do to me. If you actually cheat on me the first time, I can find it in my heart to forgive you. If you can answer that question honestly and truthfully to yourself, then you will know if that person is your partner or not," she added.

She explained that it is every woman's dream to get married but the problem is finding someone you are compatible with, adding that she's had opportunities to get married but she realised getting married is not the problem but compatibility.

The mother of one said she wants to get married but it has be with someone she's compatible with.

She said, "So compatibility is the word, aside from the physical attributes that have to go with it. I need to be comfortable because I am a woman and I'm used to certain lifestyle."

Chibok visit shows Jonathan has “lost all direction” – APC

ABUJA  (AFP) -The All Progressives Congress (APC) has reacted to Jonathan's cancellation of Chibok visit

Lai Mohammed, spokesman for the main opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) said Jonathan had "lost all direction" and the cancellation was "a good example of his government's policy indecision".

President Goodluck Jonathan on Friday cancelled a visit to the hometown of more than 200 schoolgirls kidnapped by Islamic militants, provoking fresh criticism of his handling of the crisis.lai-take

A senior government official told AFP that Jonathan's trip to remote Chibok in Borno state "was on (the president's) schedule up to this morning" but the visit had been scrapped.

No reason was given but security concerns were reportedly blamed.

- 'Lack of leadership' -

As Jonathan headed to the French capital, critics rounded on him for showing a lack of empathy for the distraught families of the girls and also for implying the northeast was beyond his control.

More than 2,000 people have been killed this year alone, most of them civilians, in increasing violence across the Muslim-majority north that has seen churches, schools and entire villages attacked.

"If, as the commander-in-chief of the armed forces, he is afraid to visit Chibok because of security fears, he is simply telling the hapless people in the northeast that he cannot protect them and they should resign themselves to their fate," said Debo Adeniran, of the Coalition Against Corrupt Leaders pressure group.

Lai Mohammed, spokesman for the main opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) said Jonathan had "lost all direction" and the cancellation was "a good example of his government's policy indecision".

"He has clearly abandoned the Nigerian people and Nigerians are conscious of this. Obama went to Afghanistan, so did Bush. I think Jonathan lacks good advisers."

Jonathan is widely expected to seek re-election next year but critics said the hostage drama suggested he was unfit for high office.

Jonathan was now due to head direct to a security summit in Paris on Saturday to discuss the Boko Haram threat to regional stability.

Presidents Barack Obama of the United States and Francois Hollande of France discussed the conference and the hunt for the schoolgirls in a telephone call, the White House said.

The no-show in Chibok heaped further pressure on Jonathan after the United States on Thursday criticised Nigeria's response to the crisis as "tragically and unacceptably slow".

Officials said the safe return of the 223 girls — still missing a month after they were abducted — was now one of Washington's top priorities, with specialist US teams, drones and surveillance aircraft involved in the rescue effort.

But French officials categorically ruled out Western military intervention, insisting that the solution should be found by Nigeria and its neighbours.

"Boko Haram represents a risk… for all countries in the region and all heads of state should be aware of that," a French diplomatic source said, singling out Cameroon as a key player.

Boko Haram fighters have frequently launched attacks from Nigeria's neighbour to the east, with whom they have had tense relations in the past over disputed territory.

Republic of Congo President Denis Sassou Nguesso also called on Africa to deal with the crisis itself.

"These are challenges that Africa must rise up to. It must take charge of its destiny rather than wait for support from the international community," he said in a remarks broadcast by national television.

"The time has come for Africa to take a firm position. Be it with regards to Nigeria, Central Africa or South Sudan, Africans must put themselves on the frontline," he added.

- Cooperation difficulties -

US, British, French and Israeli teams are in Nigeria to assist the military with its search operation, which has been concentrated in the Sambisa forest area of Borno.

But a potential stumbling block to closer co-operation has been raised over the Nigerian military's human rights record, after well-documented claims of abuses carried out by soldiers.

Defence analysts have pointed out difficulties in the chain-of-command, with junior officers reluctant to make quick decisions on the ground without consulting their superiors.

A reluctance to accept outside help within Nigeria's powerful military could also be a hindrance, while there have been reports that troops are overstretched and under-resourced to be effective.

Disgruntled troops on Tuesday fired shots into the air when the local commander paid a visit to the state capital of Borno, Maiduguri to sympathise with them after a Boko Haram ambush killed some of their comrades.

Six soldiers, including one officer, were killed as they returned from patrol duties in Chibok, the defence ministry said, adding that the commander was not injured by the firing.

- No conditions -

Jonathan has requested a six-month extension to a state of emergency in Borno and two neighbouring states in the face of continued violence and the loss of initial gains.

The lower House of Representatives backed the proposal on Thursday while a vote is expected at the upper chamber next week.

But some, including the governor of the one of the states, have questioned the wisdom of further special powers.

The government has ruled out a prisoner swap with the extremists after Boko Haram leader Abubakar Shekau mooted the possibility in a video released on Monday showing the kidnapped schoolgirls.

But the government said it remained open to wider talks on ending the insurgency.

Relatives of the missing girls have called for their unconditional release.

Actress Chika Agatha Speaks Frankly About Sex

When the Nigerian sex bomb, who likes exciting men's minds by showing her hot body, was asked whether she could use a vibrator to satisfy her sexually, the Anambra State born actress said she preferred men to vibrators:

"It could be helpful for some people who do not have relationships but seriously, Nigerian guys are very able bodied men."

The interviewer also asked the busty movie diva to speak about getting paid for sex, to which she responded:

"Instead of jumping around from one place to the other with loads of people you don't really know, it's safer to do it with someone you know, someone close to you, even someone you can actually give yourself to, if you are not dating. Not for payment of any kind or for exchange of money."

Chike finds it hard to understand why some women have sex for money, because for her no matter how much one pays, she won't have orgasm without having feelings for a person.

Developing the topic the young actress said:

"For me, orgasm is really something out of the physical. It's more of psychological than sex itself because I could have sex and not cum but what makes me cum is who the person is, what feelings I have for the person."

This woman definitely knows what she wants!

Man arrested for blackmailing women with their nude videos

This is largely for you, women.Have you been invited via social network for contracts or for job interviews?

Then, you have to be careful because you could be a victim of fraudsters who use such means to blackmail women.

This admonition is coming on the heels of the arrest of a 32-year-old man who allegedly impersonates prominent Nigerians on facebook, using the medium as adverts for business transactions.

So far , he has allegedly succeeded in using eminent personalities like: Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Anyim Pius Anyim; Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Tambuwa, business mogul Mike Adenuga, and Ghanaian actor Van Vicker among others, to woo his unsuspecting victims.

His targets , are reportedly females; both married and single.

Iweka Nnamd

Iweka Nnamd

His modus oparandi as gathered, included opening email addresses and facebook accounts where he allegedly impersonates these big shots, calling for bidders for contracts. Sometimes, he would reportedly place adverts for models ,where the unsuspecting job seekers usually fill in their profiles.

Saturday Vanguard learnt that thereafter, the suspect identified as Iweka Nnamdi, would invite only the females applicants to a hotel where the purported interview would hold. There, he would pose as personal assistant to the prominent Nigerian that has a job. He would then allegedly demand for sex in order for him to facilitate the contract.

Some of the females most of whom were said to be married, fell to his trap. And unknown to them, the suspect would place a camp coder in a section of the room where he records the video of his suspects nudity or sexual action.

He would thereafter, use the video to blackmail his victims threatening to paste it in the internet if they failed to part with the requested amount of money.

Luck ran out on the Enugu –state born suspect after he pasted one of his female victims nude on the internet over her refusal to pay him N20,000.

Said Police sources in Area 'J' Ajah : " The suspect met a female banker (names withheld)on facebook where he posed as one of the big shots in Nigeria. After chatting with her for sometime, he invited her to a hotel in Ajah on March 14, 2014, where he slept with her . Unknown to the lady, a camp coder was placed in a corner of the hotel room, where all that transpired was recorded. He later abandoned the lady while she was sleeping. Next day, the lady called him on the phone, saying she was no longer interested in the relationship. But Iweka would not agree. Rather, he sent her his GTB account details asking her to pay in some money which she refused.

"But to her chagrin, Iweka posted her nude picture on internet , on April 15, 2014,which prompted her to report the case to the Police. We used the lady as a bait to get him by asking her to call him on the phone and book for an appointment with him in a hotel at Ikota in order to settle the case. And when he came we apprehended him.

" During investigation, we discovered he is not in any way related to any of these persons he claimed to represent. When we conducted a search in an apartment at Road 34, Ikota villa estate in Ajah, where he squats with his elder sister's husband, we found the laptop he uses for these atrocities. Stored in, were video of several women in their nude, including that of the banker. We also found black berry phones with same pictures stored in.

"During interrogation, he said he only used such means to get beautiful ladies and also make some money. His victims included bankers, students in the different universities and married women. For the married women, he tells them to bid for contracts. From our acount, he has destroyed about fourteen marriages, by posting pictures of the women who turned down his blackmail, on the internet", police sources said.

The suspect who claimed to be a graduate of the Nnamdi Azikiwe University, has been charged to court on an eight- count charge ranging from impersonation, publication of provocative pictures, threat to life, conduct likely to cause the breach of peace, obtaining under false pretense and threat with intent to extort.

The case was called for mentioning at the District Court 6, Tinubu, Lagos , on April 28, 2014 where Iweka pleaded not guilty. He was however granted bail with a fine of N200,000 and two sureties in like sum. As at the time of leaving the court, it could not be ascertained whether he was able to meet the bail condition. The case was adjourned to May 26, 2014.

Celebrities Live Fake Lives- Duncan Mighty

Is Duncan Mighty upset with his colleagues? The Port Harcourt singer in an interview with E-Punch spoke about why he still lives in Port Harcourt and not Lagos, and also exposed how most of his colleagues live fake lives pretending to buy houses worth millions of naira and which isn't so. I built my house from the scratch and I am proud to say that, Duncan says. Read more of what he told E-Punch below…o ga lol

"I conquered the Lagos market with my first album and I think Nigerian artistes should be able to maximise fame and victory from any part of the country. The fact that I remain in PH city has attracted more entertainment stakeholders to the state, thereby boosting their popularity. I wish other Nigerian celebrities can do or say same about their states of origin."

"A lot of Nigerian artistes' lead fake lives. They claim to be what they are not, just because they want to meet up their peers and fellow artistes. I live in my own house (it has a swimming pool, lounge and studio) and I make bold to say I didn't buy it. I built it from the scratch. But a lot of these artistes will claim they bought a house for N300m or N400m.

"But I didn't spend up to that amount to build my house. If you have that amount, say N500m, you don't go and buy one property. There are many things to do with money. They claim they have state-of-the-art cars, but that is not my priority. I have choice cars, but it takes a lot of money to maintain such cars."

'Diamonds' hit-maker, Rihanna, accidentally broke LA Police Commission President Steve Soboroff's mobile phone while trying to take a selfie with him at the Los Angeles Clippers basketball game against Oklahoma City Thunder on Friday, May 9, 2014.

The star was, however, quick to turn the incident around by making a donation to help police cadets from underprivileged backgrounds and bereaved families of officers killed in the line of duty.

Soboroff revealed this when he tweeted: 'BIG @rihanna news: she's donating $25,000 to @LAPoliceFdtn for cadets & families of fallen officers.'

The pair have since met again at another basketball game, and Steve asked Rihanna to sign his damaged phone.

She complied with his request, writing: 'Sorry! I ♥ LAPD. Rihanna.'

The phone is now up for sale on eBay to raise money for the police foundation, and bidding has reached a staggering $10,000. The auction ends on Thursday, May 15, 2014.

Rihanna Dyes Hair Pink, Flaunts & Grabs Her B00bs During Playoff Game

Her hair was definitely obviously, but that didn't catch attention. It was Rihanna's typically raunchy antics that turned heads. The Roc Nation artiste visibly grabbed her boob and posed for a camera, an action which certainly caused a stir.

The 26-year-old songstress was accompanied, as always, by close pal Melissa Forde as she watched the increasingly popular LA basketball team go head to head with Oklahoma

City Thunder – a game they went on to lose 104-98.
