Senate President David Mark Is Against Negotiations With Boko Haram

Senate President, David Mark, declared that the Federal Government is not in position to negotiate with representatives of Islamist Boko Haram sect, responsible for abduction of over 200 female students from GGSS Chibok, Borno State, between April 14-15, 2014.

Mark made this statement in the capital city of China, Beijing, on May 13, 2014, Tuesday, reacting to fresh Boko Haram video and Shekau's proposal on prisoners' swap.

He said that the Federal Government would never negotiate with the terrorists, because if they start talks this would provide confidence to the insurgents that they can seed even more havoc in Nigeria and walk away unpunished.

"We are going to bring the girls back safe and sound for their parents without any negotiation with Boko Haram as every effort towards that which cannot be disclosed in the public, is being made to rescue the girls," he concluded.

It would be added that Mark previously reassured the citizens and foreign investors that Jonathan's administration is putting its best efforts to end Boko Haram terror in the country.

Meanwhile, more indications emerged that the Federal Government may consider talks with Boko Haram emissaries. Thus, Special Duties Minister Alhaji Kabiru Tanimu Turaki confirmed that peaceful resolution of this crisis by means of dialogue has not been crossed out yet.
