Ekiti 2014: Fayose gathers support, recruits Senator Ola, former deputy

Mr. Ayo Fayose's campaign for the governorship election got a boost yesterday after a one time loyalist of the All Progressives Congress, APC, former Senator Bode Ola switched parties to support Fayose.

Another former antagonist that has come on board is the erstwhile deputy governor of the state, Dr. Sikiru Lawal who at the peak of the controversies that trailed Fayose's governorship sided with those against the governor.

Senator Ola who served for one term and did not win the party's endorsement for a second term in 2011, claimed he was jumping ship because he believed Fayose would win the election.

He formally declared his support for the former governor during a courtesy call on the PDP gubernatorial candidate.

Welcoming Senator Ola, Fayose said PDP was a democratic party and not a cult, adding that its umbrella was very wide enough to accommodate as many as possible including his main rival in the contest, Governor Kayode Fayemi.

Besides Ola, 45 prominent PDP leaders in Ado Local Government Area also yesterday pledged support for Fayose.

The PDP leaders were led by former Deputy Governor, Ekiti State, Dr Sikiru Lawal; former Ado Local Government Chairman, Mrs Tosin Aluko and the Ado Local Government  PDP Chairman, Hon Kola Lawal.

A statement by Fayose's spokesman, Mr Idowu Adelusi on the visit quoted Dr Lawal as saying that he decided to support Fayose because of his track record as governor which according to him is yet to be equaled by those who came after him.

"Fayose governed the state without borrowing unlike the APC government which has returned the state to the club of debtor states."

Mrs. Aluko on her part said that she was proud to lead Ado people  to support  Fayose because Ado benefited immensely from him, stressing that Fayose dualised Ado Ekiti township road, built markets and offered employment to many Ado indigenes.

"The PDP has gotten a governor and not a candidate and Ado people are ready to vote overwhelmingly for Fayose on June 21."

The LGA party Chairman, Mr Lawal on his part said that the PDP leaders in Ado have begun house to house campaign for the party and to educate the people on the need to collect their voter's cards.
Welcoming the Ado PDP leaders, Fayose thanked the former deputy governor, Dr Lawal especially, describing him as a loyal party member.
He said that the party was on course to takeover the state from the APC.
