Finally, Daddy Showkey returns to studio

Popular singer, John Asiemo, aka Daddy Showkey, has
decided to return to the music scene after what looks like a
long hiatus. The self-styled ghetto soldier is not only back in
the studio, he is currently working on a new album that he
hopes will turn out a surprise hit with music fans soon.
In an interview with our correspondent on Tuesday, Showkey
said he had decided to keep the title of the work-in-progress
and the location of the studio secret for now.
"The studio is just a small one. It is somewhere in Surulere,
Lagos. I'd rather not talk about the location. As for the title of
the album I'm working on, I want to keep it close to my chest
for now," he said.
For Showkey's numerous fans across the country, who have
missed his thrilling performances for a long time, this seems
like heartwarming news.
The singer was forced to temporarily quit the scene after he
narrowly escaped the assassin's bullet two times in 2011. In
one of the attacks, the suspected killers had stormed his
former residence in Ojodu and killed one of his close
associates who was visiting at the time.
Apart from making a brief public appearance during the 2012
anti-fuel subsidy removal protests in Lagos, Showkey has
virtually spent the last two years in hiding for fear of
unknown assailants that might be waiting to catch him
unawares.
Unfortunately, a few weeks ago, just as he sweated it out in
the studio, grief paid the dreadlocked creator of the popular
Galala dance steps an unscheduled visit in Lagos. This time,
his brother-in-law, Kachi, was involved in a fatal car crash
and died on the stop.
"Kachi had lived with me for about 15 years. He was like my
own brother. I feel so sad that he is gone. My wife has not
recovered from the shock of losing him," a grief-stricken
Showkey told our correspondent.
However, Showkey has decided to put the sad event behind
him and to concentrate on his work. He says he is working so
hard on his forthcoming album and practically spends most of
the nights in the studio nowadays. At the moment, his greatest
desire is to catch up with the time he had lost these past years.
The grapevine recently rippled with talk about a possible
collaboration between Showkey and Wizkid. Pictures of the
two stars were splashed on the Internet. But efforts made to
get the ghetto soldier's comment on the subject proved
abortive.
