Man, 27, charged with attempt to dupe Minister

The Police on Wednesday arraigned a 27-year old man for attempting to dupe the Minister of Power and Steel, Prof. Chinedu Nebo.

Police prosecutor Cpl. David Udeh told the court that Henry
Uzoma of Julius Berger Quarry, Mpape, Abuja, called the
minister on phone asking for money.

Uzoma used mobile phone number 07069331047 to call the
minister, saying his (Uzoma's) mother was dead.

"Uzoma said the minister should send him some money.''

The prosecutor added that Dr Chris Anyanwu of Faculty of
Law, University of Nigeria, who was on a visit to the minister
on that day, reported the matter at Wuse Police Station.

Udeh said the offence contravened the provisions of the Penal
Code
.
However, the accused pleaded not guilty to the charge against
him.

Counsel to the accused, Mr Azubuike Moneke, urged the
court to grant the accused bail.

Senior Magistrate Katsina Ala granted the accused bail in the
sum of N50,000 and a surety in like sum who has a
reasonable means of livelihood and resident within the court's
jurisdiction
.
She adjourned the case to March 3 for hearing.
